On this episode I solo sail to Avalon on Catalina Island to meet my brother Colby and our friend Jimmy Shannon for a weekend of diving at Avalon’s dive park that is situated at the foot of the iconic Casino Building. After a mellow sail / motorsail I was escorted into the harbor by a pod of dolphins and a sunfish. This was the first time I had sailed into Avalon, previously all of my visit had been by ferry and I crept through the mooring field after getting my slip and paying my fees at sea to the harbor master. They got me in as close to the dive park as they could which made for a nice stay only a few minutes row in the sabot to the dingy dock. On the night I arrived Colby and myself did my first ever night dive and it is a memory that will last the rest of my life. It felt like a movie as we made our way through the darkness with only the small beam of light from our torches reveling the abundance of life at night. It was also mildly terrifying. Next weeks episode we will continue to explore Avalon above and below the water but until then I hope you enjoy this episode. Sailing out of Fenerbahçe Marina in Istanbul, we head first to the customs dock to check out of Turkey, before beginning the long slog against the current through the famous Bosphorus. I have never seen so much traffic on a waterway as this, with ferry’s, cargo vessels and pleasure craft all jostling for a safe passage. Crossing from side to side we get the easiest route through the channel we can, and the prize is the amazing landmarks on show such as ‘The Blue Mosque’, ‘Hagia Sophia’, ‘The Galata Tower’ & so much more! Once through this awesome part of the world we have a steady sail through to Bulgaria, checking in at Tsrevo before reaching our final destination, The Dinevi Marina, Sveti Vlas. Yesterday we visited the famous swimming pigs at Big Major's Spot and then motored over to Staniel Cay, so we could explore the Thunderball Grotto Cave! The snorkeling was SO FANTASTIC that we decided we had to see it again! The Thunderball Grotto Cave is located between Staniel Cay and Big Major's Spot, in the Exumas of The Bahamas. The cave itself is very large with several openings to get inside. The largest opening is on the East side and lets in a significant amount of bright "blue" light under the water. It was kinda like being inside a lava lamp, if you can imagine that. Haha! We were amazed that for the majority of our time at the cave, we were basically by ourselves. We must have timed it just right, because we know that several dive groups come and go to the cave throughout the day. The tide flows fairly strong around and within the cave, so be cautious while snorkeling. It could be easy to drift into sharp rocks and hit your head, or float away and then have to fight the current to get back to where you need to be. We did notice a dive group leader create a path with rope to help snorkelers get from the boat to the interior of the cave. One of our favorite parts of visiting Thunderball Grotto was the vibrant sea life. It was totally incredible to see! We saw so many different kinds of fish, a sea turtle, a stingray, and large corals. There was always something new to see each time we went back for a swim. After snorkeling at the cave we took the dinghy over to the marina at Staniel Cay, so we could check out the local grocery stores. We found the Blue and Pink stores without getting lost and ended up buying some vegetables to go with our dinner. Being inside the stores felt kinda strange to us, because it almost felt like we walked into someones house and raided their pantry. Both stores were very small, but seemed to have a decent selection of items to choose from. Appassionato di vela da 30 anni, per soddisfare questa esigenza, ho sviluppato Ewincher: vi potrà assistere in tutte le manovre e su tutti i winch mantenendo intatti il piacere e le vostre sensazioni === Presentazione del prodotto === La maniglia misura 25,4 centimetri di lunghezza(anim flèche montrant longueur), come una maniglia standard, quindi si adatta perfettamente a tutte le disposizioni del piano di coperta. Pesa solo 2,2 kg. È assistita da un motore elettrico grazie ad una batteria amovibile ed è dotata di un dispositivo per bloccarla sul winch. Ewincher è concepita nei minimi dettagli per un'ergonomia ideale: • Impugnatura «palm grip» per una presa ideale • Comandi sempre a portata di dita • La maniglia è sempre «in folle a riposo» per poterla inserire nella posizione ideale === 3 modi di funzionamento === Ewincher vi offre 3 modi di funzionamento disponibili in qualsiasi momento • Il modo assistito per usare il winch senza sforzo Bloccate la maniglia sul winch, scegliete la posizione ideale, attivate e regolate la velocità di rotazione con una semplice pressione del pulsante di attivazione... Unite quindi le due velocità di rotazione per una velocità di manovra eccezionale. === Tutte le manovre diventano facili === Con Ewincher e i 3 modi di funzionamento tutte le manovre diventano facili, rapide e molto precise. - Issare la randa - Virare di bordo, - Cazzare o avvolgere il genoa - Prendere una mano di terzaroli - Recuperare la scotta dello spi o del code 0 - E perfino issare un membro d'equipaggio sull'albero Ewincher è molto potente, qui si issa un membro d'equipaggio di 80 chili. Alla velocità 1 del winch, si usa solo il 45% della coppia massima, e se si passa alla velocità 2 si recupera facilmente a 80 giri/min. === La batteria e la sua autonomia === Ewincher è dotato di una batteria al Litio che si ricarica a 12V o a 220V. È sufficiente un’ora e mezza (1h30) per la ricarica completa. Avete a disposizione un'autonomia superiore ad una giornata di navigazione, grazie ad una tecnologia di punta che associa un motore brushless, una batteria e una meccanica ultra efficienti, Ad esempio: - a bordo di un 40 piedi con 20 nodi di vento, potete issare 3 volte la randa e fare 30 virate. === Un oggetto tecnologico e connesso === Ewincher è anche un oggetto unico connesso che vi permette di seguire in tempo reale l'utilizzo della maniglia sul vostro smartphone. And then just after arriving in A Coruña in Spain, we decide to join the crew from SV Joy, a Lagoon 420 Catamaran that will depart from Barcelona and go to the Caribbean. We will give you some insights on the boat and our experience all together! But before we depart, we can´t forget to show you a bit of our time in Spain! Coruña is an amazing town and we had an amazing time there! The food is delicious with all the tapas, and the beer is good and cheap! It was paradise, but all that eating and drinking comes at a cost! We´ll show you our training routine and how we hope not to gain the extra weight from all that eating! Two nights. First time I used an axe for felling. First time I used a saw or ferrocerium rod for fire. Started all my fires with ferrocerium rod, and cooked all my food on them, except some marshmellows. I found batoning, and the saw, much more practical than the (heavier) axe. 40 pound pack weight, including 3.5 pound axe, and water. 74 gigabytes, 3h39m, of 4k video recorded.
