After attending 4th ofJuly 4th celebrations in Boston, s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) continues the sailing adventure with an overnight passage across the cool waters of Bay of Maine to the beautiful Mount Desert Island. Sailing Maine starts from here! We anchor in Bar Harbor and visit friends who run a mussel farming operation and live in a forest next to Eastern Bay. #boating #spinaker Unexpectedly we had to go back to London for five days. The girls surprised us at the hotel bedroom with a very nice homemade dinner. We use the time in London to go to Stanford’s to buy charts and pilot books, as we have found it difficult to buy them around the places we normally are. Heaven for Simon as they have everything we need. Going back to Sicily after leaving the boat in Capo d’Orlando Marina we prepare Ocean Fox to go out. Our Canadian friends Jason and Roberta come to have dinner with us on the boat, we had a very enjoyable evening chatting and sharing the same issues we have on this journey. They became very good friends since we first met in Croatia when we both bought our boats. We visit the island of Ustica, which we absolutely loved and visit the caves just by the boat, amazing, so beautiful! We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, fifteen months after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.

Ashley demonstrates how we install our hammock on the sailboat. I take the boat for a solo sail on a light wind day and ride in the hammock. I pass by a friendly fisherman and have a short conversation. Next, the wind picks up, and the true sailing action starts. Very quickly, I pass by a family fishing and start another conversation. I realize they may have motor trouble, so I turn the sailboat around, demonstrate the beginning stages of a heave-to, and drift closer to see if they need help.

Velejamos até o Capão da Lancha em Tapes, onde encontramos dunas, areia movediça e algumas pegadas misteriosas. É um dos lugares mais lindos que ancoramos no Rio Grande do Sul, mas antes de ir ate lá precisamos consertar algumas coisas no barco e tivemos a chance de conhecer algumas pessoas fascinantes na cidade, como o Jan Ludwig Engels e o Baiano. Há momentos em que você tem resolver um monte de problemas, este foi um deles, mas no final acabamos descobrindo novos amigos e um lugar fantástico de areias claras, areia movediça e pegadas misteriosas… Depois de vários dias de chuva ... o tempo melhorou. Esta era a hora para velejar e conhecer um lugar que já alimentava a nossa imaginação mesmo antes de chegar até aqui. Mas tínhamos que resolver alguns problemas antes: O primeiro deles era concertar o meu celular e o meu notebook. Sem eles não há #SAL. Outro era o piloto automático. Ele estava com um problema na bússola eletronica, que precisava ser trocada. Depois de um dia com a bússola funcionando, O cérebro do piloto começou a dar problema também. O Clube Náutico Tapense é um lugar muito tranquilo, fui um baita contraste depois da vida náutica agitada em Porto Alegre. O Capão da lancha é um lugar com bastante vegetação no Pontal de Tapes, seguido de uma faixa de areias claras com 5km de extensão. Velejando aqui em Tapes, dá para perceber por que aqui é um lugar muito legal para se ter um barco. Vários lugares próximos para ancorar, está no meio da lagoa dos Patos e o custo é baixo para manter um veleiro. Lá no capão encontrei algumas "pegadas misteriosas" que pareciam ser de um grande felino, para o meu limitado conhecimento, claro kkkk. Consultando a internet por aqui, parecia ser de um Graxaim ou Sorro, como se chama por aqui, mas aceito a opinião de outros especialistas. #viagem #veleiro

Some of the boat projects we did included doing laundry, washing windows, cleaning and organizing the interior of the boat, cleaning the dinghy, cleaning the spark plugs on the outboard, cooking meals, and fixing a broken piece on our engine. It felt really good to get our little home in "shipshape" again, and we really can't complain about having so much work to do. Every home has chores that will need to get done, and our home is no different! Just because we are currently in paradise, essentially on vacation, doesn't mean we won't have daily chores that need to be taken care of...sometimes even before we can play. The sailing to Highborne Cay was absolutely fantastic! We had constant 15 knot winds with a gentle swell pushing us along. We love sailing downwind wing and wing! It is a unique way of sailing and made for a fun day! Once we got to Highborne Cay we took anchor on the back side of South Oyster Cays for the night. After a week in Montenegro it's time to move on to Croatia. Checking in at the nearest port of entry Cavtat where we meet up with our friends to tour around the islands.

BAHAMAS BOUND, a half dozen draw bridges, and a midnight departure to the Gulf Stream!! This week we finish up our final details for shoving off - vet visits, provisioning, and fueling up. But we're soon sailing down the Intracoastal Waterway towards Palm Beach to stage ourselves for a hopefully-smooth Gulf Stream Crossing at the right angle to account for drift from the Stream's strong current. Along the way we run the gauntlet of a half dozen draw bridges, crash a marina pool, face off with a tug boat, and do some safety prep while at anchor at Lake Worth. Wir restaurieren unser Boot am Limit :-) Nachdem wir die Dämmung aus unserem Stahlschiff entfernt, und eine Plane darüber gespannt haben, können wir die volle Kraft der italienischen Sonne in jeder Pore spüren. Bei über 50 Grad machen wir uns daran die Decksbeschläge, wie Winschen, Umlenkrollen, Klampen und co. abzumontieren. Natürlich ist es nicht so einfach wie wir uns das vorgestellt haben und wir stehen auch dieses mal vor der einen oder anderen Herausforderung. Aber lustig ist, wenn man trotzdem lacht. Von daher gehen wir weiter mit viel positiver Energie an das Projekt und haben die fertige Reinke immer vor dem inneren Auge. Beim nächsten mal geht es dann dem Teak-Deck an den Kragen.
