Wir hatten mal wieder ein aufregendes Wochenende in Italien. Mit im Gepäck war unser neuer Gasherd den wir auf das Schiff gebracht haben. Ob er wohl passen wird? Auch sind die Arbeiten an Deck weiter vorangekommen. Hier freuen wir uns jedes mal, wenn wir an Bord kommen und den Fortschritt sehen. Unser Bootsgutachter Gregor war dieses mal auch mit von der Partie. Es hat uns geholfen, einen Ölwechsel bei unserem Mercedes Benz OM615 Motor durchzuführen und den Ölfilter zu wechseln. Auch haben wir uns die aktuelle Gasanlage zusammen angeschaut Kupferrohrleitungen vorbereitet und Pläne geschmiedet wie die neue Anlage am besten zu installieren ist. In Lingano haben wir dann zusammen noch einen schönen Abend verbracht. This week we talk about the things to consider when choosing a state of residency. It is interesting when you decide to live a nomadic or traveling lifestyle and sell your house and property to do so. As soon as you do, you no longer have a "residence" and that comes with some challenges. Think of things like: - Where do I vote - Do I pay state income tax - How will I get important mail - Will I still have a vehicle to register and inspect - What are the insurance rates where I will be So comes a decision, what state do you want to call home when you don’t have a permanent one. Let us look at the things that you may consider. State income tax - 9 of them in the US as of 2018 do not have state income tax. Those are Alaska, Washington, Nevada, Wyoming, South Dakota, Texas, Florida, New Hampshire, and TN. New Hampshire and TN, however, have a tax on dividends so something to consider when it comes to retirement or living off of investments. TN says they are phasing this out by 2021, but as of now there is still a tax on dividends The next thing to consider if you are going to have a vehicle is car insurance rates. The next thing to consider is vehicle inspection if you have a car. With some planning, you can also determine which states have no vehicle inspection required at all. Sates without vehicle inspection are Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, North and South Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Michigan, Kentucky, and Florida For us, Florida made the most sense. While I consider myself a Texan and Pride make it hard to give that up, it is a pain in the butt to drive all the way over to near Houston to get the vehicles inspected. The next thing we started to look at was Mail forwarding services that would help to provide a physical address and a mail forwarding, handling and package delivery service. There were 2 that sort of raised to the top of the pile. One in Florida and one in Texas. The one in Texas seemed to cater more toward RV’ers and the one in Florida caters a bit more to Boaters. Escapees is in Livingston Texas St. Brendan's Isle is in Green Cove Springs Florida. As Boaters, we chose St Brendan's Isle for the additional boaters related benefits. Sailing NZ Whangarei to Opua Exploring the Bay of Islands, Celebrating Birthdays and Rescuing Bees. In this episode we head North for some bay hopping in the Bay of Islands . Jo's parents, (AKA The Oaks or The Hegs) join us . There isn't much wind, but it is perfect weather to train up Carol and Dennis as crew! Dennis celebrates his 75th birthday and a simple game or two of 'Mexican train ' dominos becomes a hard fought nightly challenge to see who would be crowned as the Captain of the train! We eventually end up back at the Bay of Islands marina and bid a fond farewell to Carol and Dennis. We then complete our final preparations for our trip to Tonga. I move into a slip at Hampton Public Piers for a night, primarily to charge up my battery bank as the shorter days and persistent cloud cover have cut my solar generation to a trickle. So the first challenge is to get the boat back out on anchor without scratching any of my fresh topside paint. I opt for the safe route of running out a kedge and pulling her clear of the slips before attempting any further maneuvers. Following that we are back out on anchor (no scratches) in the Hampton river, but cannot head out to sea yet as a strong low pressure system approaches from the south. Después de más de 12 días de carreras en el Océano Atlántico, la tripulación parecía cansada pero eufórica de llegar a Camper y Nicholsons PortLouis Marina. Kuka3 RORC Transatlantic Race el jueves 06 de diciembre de 2018 a las 17:34:35 UTC en un tiempo transcurrido de 12 días, 5 hrs, 34 min y 35 s. Kuka3 fue el segundo yate de carreras bajo IRC para terminar la carrera, después de Supermaxi My Song de Pier Luigi Loro Piana. Kuka3 ha establecido el mejor momento después de la corrección de IRC y está en una posición muy fuerte para ganar la carrera general y levantar el Trofeo de Carrera Transatlántica RORC. Kuka3 fight to the finish Franco Niggeler's Swiss Cookson 50 Kuka3, skippered by Chuny Bermudez, overcame technical issues and a fire on board to post the best IRC corrected time, so far in the RORC Transatlantic Race. After over 12 days of racing in the Atlantic Ocean, the crew looked tired but elated to arribe at Camper and Nicholsons PortLouis Marina. Kuka3 RORC Transatlantic Race on Thursday 06 December, 2018 at 17:34:35 UTC in an elapsed time of 12 days 5 hrs 34 mins and 35 secs. Kuka3 was the second yacht racing under IRC to finish the race, after Pier Luigi Loro Piana's Supermaxi My Song. Kuka3 has set the best time after IRC correction and is in a very strong position to win the race overall and lift the RORC Transatlantic Race Trophy. After finishing the RORC Transatlantic Race Kuka3 was safely moored at Camper and Nicholsons Port Louis Marina, where manager Charlotte Bonin and staff cracked open iced cold beers for the Kuka3 team. Chinel Sandy from the Grenada Tourism Board presented Franco Niggeler with with a basket of Grenadian goods, including chocolate, local spices and condiments. After 12 days of freeze dried cuisine the warm welcome was very much appreciated! RORC Race Officer Steve Cole was on hand to congratulate Kuka3 for finishing the race. “It was hard especially with the problems at the beginning but it was a beautiful race and we are happy to be here.” commented Kuka3 owner Franco Niggeler. “The Kuka crew has been fantastic, we have a great leader in Chuny (Bermudez) and he has formed us into a team, we are growing together with his guidance. When things did not go well for us it simply comes down to is simple; you have to fight, try harder and you can overcome the problems. The first beer in Grenada tastes really good especially after drinking warm desalinated water for 12 days.” “Franco is incredible, he probably was driving the boat more than anyone else for the race, and he is always keen to learn, and that is so important for Franco and for all of the team, especially that he is also very happy.” commented Kuka3 skipper Chuny Bermudez. “It was an interesting race and our first as a team offshore. I was really impressed with the guys, especially as some of them are a bit new to offshore racing. I provide the boundaries and they performed well even when we had our problems. The pitstop in Cape Verde was like a formula one, very fast, just four hours to change batteries and a few cables. Five days before the finish we also had a fire on board, which we dealt with very well, everybody went straight up on deck and we used the correct extinguisher. However we were without communication for days and it was a really big test for us.”
