Bow Caddy was in the air to capture the start of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. After a slow start in the harbour the northerly air stream built during the afternoon providing some great imagery as the fleet powered past Sydney’s eastern beaches.

The 74th Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race is underway. A diverse fleet of 85 yachts are contesting the 2018 edition of this famous 628-nautical mile offshore race. Of the five 100-ft Maxis set to contest line honours it was Peter Harburg’s Black Jack who made the most impressive start as first yacht to clear Sydney Heads leading Wild Oats XI, InfoTrack and Scallywag with race record holder Comanche forced to recover ground. A tactically intriguing contest lies ahead with variable conditions forecast and the chances of the race record being broken for the third year running appearing unlikely. The chase for the race’s most coveted prize, overall victory on corrected time, rewarded with the Tattersall Cup and Rolex timepiece, is wide open. Matt Allen’s Ichi Ban is among the yachts in contention and attempting to become the first yacht since 1965 to win back-to-back titles. Rolex has been title sponsor of the race, organised by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, since 2002.

Before the boats left the dock for the start of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race this morning Bow Caddy talked to some of the most experienced owners, skippers and crew to get their take on what the forecast held for them and who they thought might win the Tattersalls Trophy for overall handicap win. While there was much talk that this forecast might well favour the TP52s and the possibility of Matt Allen’s Ichi Ban taking a back-to-back win, one name cropped up regularly; Wild Oats X skippered by Stacey Jackson. Given their highly credentialed crew it would be hard to argue with that if they get the right weather breaks through Bass Strait and down the Tasmanian coast. And then of course there’s always Komatsu Azzurro skipper Shane Kearns’ entertaining take on the likely winner!

Norwegentörn mit der Waludaha, einer Fortissimo 33, über die Nordsee bis zu 60° Nord - Haugesund, Lysefjord, Preikestolen und zurück.

Wir heißen zwar Segler-Club Oberspree e.V (SCO), liegen aber an der Unterhavel. Das der SCO an der Unterhavel liegt ist Umständen zu verdanken, die typisch für die Berliner Geschichte sind. Gegründet wurde der SCO am 24. Juni 1906 im Restaurant "Zu den drei Linden" in Grünau. 1912 wurde die Große Rohrwall-Insel in der Dahme, am südöstlichen Rande Berlins gepachtet, gleichzeitig wurde der SCO Gründungsmitglied des "Deutschen Segler-Bundes", der später in den Deutschen Segler-Verband aufging und stellte dort für zehn Jahren mit Robert Höfer sogar den Bundesvorsitzenden. Der Große Rohrwall nun ging nach dem Krieg in die Verfügungsgewalt der DDR über, was die im westlichen Berlin wohnenden Mitglieder motivierte, 1954 den "Segler-Club Oberspree e.V." in West-Berlin zu gründen. 1966 konnte ein Grundstück in Berlin-Kladow gepachtet und wenige Jahre später mit einem in Eigenarbeit erstellten Clubhaus ausgestattet werden. One of the most noticeable islands the Azores have, for housing Portugal's highest point, is also the one that gets nearly the fewest visitors by sailboat. Without many good harbors, we find another way to get to neighboring Pico. Hopping the ferry for the four mile trip across from Horta, we set ourselves up with a rental car for 24 hours and meet up with our friends Bill and Grace to see how much of this island we can see within a 24 hour period. In this episode of Sailing Chelsea, we meet up with Faye's family - Liz and Colin - and have the best week with them exploring the Fire Mountains (volcanoes) and different parts of Lanzarote. We do some spear fishing, snorkeling and have a beautiful sail across from Lanzarote to Fuerteventura. Here we anchor off of Isla de Lobos, a stunning little island with beautiful sandy beaches and turquoise sea. We sail back to Lanzarote, say goodbye to Stuart and Jo and set sail for Gran Canaria. In this video, the crew of Sailing Catamaran Element arrive at the very busy Island of Rodos (Rhodes) Greece and visit the awe inspiring Crusades era castle with an old town World Heritage Site protected within its might walls. We take a hop-on hop-off bus tour around the island visiting the local aquarium, then are offered a free harbour tour from our "submarine" dockside neighbor. About Us: We are a Canadian sailing family of four from Vancouver, Canada. We had the fast paced life, we had good careers, owned the big house, but something was missing….. We had been sailing for several years on yachts with our local “Lower Mainland Yacht Co-op” (www.lmyc.ca), where Shaun was a volunteer sailing instructor. After chartering in the Caribbean several times, extending our distances further and further on larger and larger yachts, then onto Catamarans, we knew we were ready for a lifestyle change and to spend quality time with our quickly growing girls.
