Predicted: 11 kt wind + 0-1ft swells Actual (my observation): 20 kt (35-40 kt gusts) + 5 - 6 ft breaking waves 25-30 boats all did this crossing within an hour of us. We all thought it would be a calm sail and we thought wrong. 12 hours later, still nasty over 100 sq miles of ocean and Windy still thinks it's benign. Odd? Normal for Bahamas cruising?

The sails on your boat act as an airfoil similar to an airplane wing which creates the lift to move the boat through the water. This video explains the theory behind how the air flows over your sail at different speeds to create that lift. We explore the camber of your sails and how you should set them up for light, medium and heavy airs. Using a wind tunnel we simulate the air flow and pressure created by this which propels your boat forward. At the end of the video we take a look at some basic controls you can use to adjust the camber of you sail to ensure you have the prefect setup for the prevailing wind. Using forestay and sheet tension to move the camber in the Jib forward and aft. This 20 minute video lesson will teach you the basic to help you improve your setup while sailing.

The day before the storm smashes Kaş harbour we get warnings from the harbour master and several captains of neighbouring gulets. Pirates of the Caribbean Island - Cooking Fish Gratin - Wallibou Bay - St Vincent -Sailing Nipe EP16 From Tobago Cays we sailed to St Vincent, anchor in Wallibou bay, were parts of Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed with Johnny Deep. We take a taxi and explore a part of the island and came to a beautiful waterfall, Dark View waterfall. We even manage to cook a very good fish gratin with our own Mahi Mahi.

This week we complete the fiberglass work around the mast. In last weeks episode (https://youtu.be/J4DvqD9YRZc) we showed what the repair was, identified the steps to prep for the job, filled some of the wood with thickened epoxy and created the shape needed to lay the new glass from the deck up onto the mast step. When cured, we also showed how to clean up the jagged edges from a raw fiberglass layup. This is a practical how-to for any do it yourself on a boat. We all have some tasks that we can likely tackle on our own with a bit of persistence and patience. We also show how we are testing insulation options for the condensation issue when living aboard in colder weather. Lastly, we show a ceiling (overhead) option we are considering for the staterooms and interior. Bluewater sailing NZ to Tonga Land Ho! Arriving in Tonga. In this episode we declare "Land Ho!" as we sight Tonga for the first time. Our South Pacific crossing took us nine days and was another steep learning curve. We did however, get to swim in over 2000 metres of water on the way - A fantastic experience. We sail from St George's in Grenada to Prickly Bay and Adam shows of our (patent pending) boat selfie stick. When we arrive, we see that it is possibly the busiest anchorage we've ever been to! After finding a small spot to anchor, we head to the marine chandleries on shore and pick up a new addition to our fridge/freezer system. The next day, we take a sight seeing expedition to Seven Sisters Waterfall's and end up blindly wandering around the mountains for half the day trying to find it... We do eventually find it however and spend the afternoon bathing, laughing and frolicking* in the waterfall pools. *may not include physical frolicking In the days following, we have an afternoon sail on the Seidelman 37, Brighteyes, and head back to St George's then on to Carriacou (getting smashed along the way) in preparation for getting our boat hauled out.
