We had a ton of fun with Billy and Sierra making that video. There were some good laughs that we shared that didn't get used in the original version. Saving Jetty while sailing the dinghy was pretty cool. So glad we had the camera rolling for that! Also, having to cut the cable lock in order to free the RIB from the dock was comical. Geez. :) We actually did acquire a greater understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each kind of dinghy by running the rowing comparison back-to-back. Honestly, one of the biggest takeaways for me was how well the RIB did row. It was much slower than the rigid, and required twice the effort to keep her moving decently, BUT it tracked straight and carried enough speed to get you back home if the motor decided to stop working. The primary strength of an inflatable RIB is it's stability. In addition to that, they plane very easily when coupled with an outboard motor of decent output. Unfortunately, they aren't the best at rowing. Luckily, they are rarely used for that purpose, although, when they are rowed it's usually a matter of necessity rather than choice. The rigid dinghy is GREAT at rowing, GREAT at sailing, and motors along slowly with a very small and light outboard motor. The biggest drawback to the rigid dinghy is it's lack of stability - and it's also quite slow. To each their own, eh? Thanks for watching!! After flying down the Mississippi River at 10 knots, turning upriver onto the Ohio is a shock. It’s frothy with breaking waves, it’s running fast, and we struggle against its current. At one point, Soulianis slows all the way down to 1.5 knots, and we start to worry if we’re even going to make it — even at full throttle. Our short 46-mile journey on the Ohio River takes us two days. We breathe huge sighs of relief after turning south onto the Tennessee River. Even though we’re still heading upstream, the Tennessee’s current is a much milder 1-2 knots. The Kentucky Dam Lock — our first upstream lock transit — is rough. We quickly learn how much easier and more pleasant it is to be lowered down a lock than raised up. Compared to the muddy brown rivers, Kentucky Lake is a beautiful bright blue. We hop and skip our way down the lake until it turns back into the Tennessee River, pushing further south towards the sun and the warmth. More music by Common Jack in this episode! easy life in the bahamas 47 sailing saoirse Although we don't have some luxuries that we use to when we were land based like running hot water or a flushing toilet; we've got a pretty easy life in the Bahamas. The only traffic we have to worry about is ferry traffic or the occasional cruise ship. A new anchorage is just a sail away and dinner can be found anywhere. We do a little exploring around Great Guana Cay but nothing was open since we were there over Christmas. But we made the best of it. If it wasn't so cold we would have dived the reef off nippers. But there will be plenty more reefs to see. Beau climbed a few coconut trees and shook out some young coconuts, but they were too difficult to open. We moved on to Marsh Harbor where Dan and Kika from Sailing Uma were waiting with camera in hand. They got some great shots of us coming in. After a few days of waiting for our new anchor piece, which didn't come in, we went on a little exploration and found a nice beach resort. After an exhausting passage, we get some rest and realise this island is not a bad place to be stuck! The scenery has been described to that similar of the British Virgin islands, not sure what they look like, but if they look like Belitung then they must be alright! We find the most helpful gentlemen named Harun who runs his own workshop in town. He went out of his way to assist us and get our gearbox fixed. If your ever in Belitung, look him up! Absolute legend! With Nandji ready to sail once more, we take the time to enjoy the island and go exploring, learning about the fascinating history. We hear about a miniature monkey and decide we need to see that! We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have been in Indonesia for a couple of months cruising and are now high tailing to Malaysia for boat work. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some amazing people and experienced cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! Wir unternahmen Ausflüge mit unserem Dingi nach Bucklers Hard und den Beaulieu River weiter hinauf. Ein sensationell schöner Ort, um das Dingi das erste Mal zu fahren. Und dann segelten wir ein letztes Mal auf die Isle of Wight, nach Yarmouth. Ein idealer Ausgangspunkt, um die Insel zu erkunden.
