As a kid I always dreamed of being an explorer. I devoured books about the age of exploration and fell in love with the dream of discovery, sailing over the horizon to explore new lands and discover new places within ourselves. The one thing missing from that dream was the joy, excitement, and love I have of sharing this passion for exploration, self-discovery, and adventure with others. Now I get to do that and sometimes I have to pinch myself because it still feels like I'm dreaming. Thank you Pete and Kendel for sharing this passage with me. I feel like we met in New Cal as strangers and I arrived in New Zealand with two of the best friends I've ever met. Saímos do Rio de Janeiro mais tarde do que gostaríamos, a ideia era sair 8h da manhã, mas acabamos demorando para abastecer o Barba Negra de água e saímos às 11h. Os contratempos continuaram com o speedômetro e o anemômetro que pararam de funcionar. Na hora de subir o pau de spinnaker o Sergio me disse para caçar e eu cacei com toda minha força. Resultado: entortamos o encaixe. Fomos só na mestra mesmo! As ondas começaram a crescer e desistimos do piloto automático. Estávamos a 7kts só na mestra, com ventos, acredito eu, acima de 20kts, quando as ondas fizeram a mestra dar um jibe inesperado. A contra-escota voou pelos ares e nos fez repensar a navegação noturna até Ilha Bela. Decidimos parar na praia do Pouso 1h30 da manhã sem saber bem onde havíamos ancorado e no dia seguinte formos analisar o que aconteceu...

Almost 200 years ago the island of Grand Canaria was a rainforest, but after a few years, the island was nearly deforested by demand for firewood and lumber. The consequences were dire - the Forrests played an essential role in promoting rainfall. Without the trees precipitation fell to deadly low levels causing drought and crop failure. Recently local communities have organized around a reforestation effort. The ARC has participated for years, with members planting over three thousand trees! In this episode I get to grips with 'Hellcat's' water ballast system. The system has six tanks- two forward tanks, two tanks under the side deck next to the shrouds and two under the deck next to the cockpit. In the engine bay a pump can be operated to move water through a network of pipes that draw in water from the sea and distribute it to any one of the tanks. This is a major performance component of the boat helping to give her an incredible max righting moment of 33,000kg/m. It's time to set sails to the Canary Islands. It will be our first sailing passage on the Atlantic and the longest trip we made till now. How will it feel to be on the water for a week? How will we manage the high waves?

A Canadian Couple from Vancouver Island, BC, Canada left from Parksville July 21, 2016 to sail around the world in their Lagoon 400 S2 catamaran. See how they get along, who they meet and where they end up going. They have a 10 year estimated time line, but a very open agenda. Our last video about arriving in Hiva Oa was in April 2018. We landed in Makemo in May and visited 5 other atolls, Kauehi, Fakarava (great night shark dive in the south pass), Toau, Apataki (huge surf) and the biggest atoll Rangiroa. Then we were in the societies (Tahiti, Huahine, Tahaa, Bora Bora, Maupiti and Maupihaa) which was a nice blend of atoll and island. Maupiti was our favourite place. Then we went to Swarrow, a nature reserve with 2 resident rangers in the Cook Islands. Then we went to the island country of Niue with unlimited underwater visibility, pristine coral, baby humpback whales, caverns and chasms. Breathtaking! From there, we traveled to Neiafu (with dozens of protected anchorages), Pangai in the Haipai region and Nuku’alofa, all 3 regions in Tonga. Next was Minerva Reef for 20 hours before we embarked on the notorious passage to NZ. Since Nov 12 2018, we have been in Opua New Zealand and are loving the friendly people, the lovely Bay of Islands and the access to materials and shops to do some boat projects.

In this instalment of the Daley Adventure we spend a whole week in St Barts, enjoying the French cuisine and the local hospitality. Also because we get stuck in some nasty 40kt weather. We crossed the Atlantic Ocean with AquaFrolic which is a Lagoon 450F. The same as our boat but the F model so we've done many miles with the guys. They've basically become our Australian family and as I type this we're all drinking beers together in Miami almost a year later. Please tune in next week when the adventure continues in St Martin. Unsere erste längere Strecke auf See von Concarneau bis La Corūna ist eine Gute Erfahrung! Wir nutzen das kleine Wetterfenster und überqueren die Biscaya. Die Zeit vergeht wie im Fluge und wir genießen die Weite des Meeres. Delfine begleiten uns viele Stunden lang. Wir können uns nicht sattsehen an den wunderbaren Sonnenauf- und Untergängen! Segeln - meine 753 sm Rundreise durch das Baltikum. Begleitet mich und die SY Ostwind bei meinem Törn durch Gotland, Lettland, Litauen und Polen. Nach einem Tagesausflug nach Riga segeln wir Nachts von Lettland Pavilosta weiter nach Klaipedia in Litauen.

This week we leave Kos without our boat Kawai as there is a delay in receiving the broken part needed to sail. The delay will be minimum 2 weeks so we decide to pack our bags, catch a ferry and plane and visit our friends in Istanbul. This is our first visit to Istanbul so we are excited to check it out. We begin by exploring the Sultanahmet area of Istanbul. We visit the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and spend time shopping in the Grand Bazaar. The next day we begin by trying a Turkish coffee overlooking the famous Galata tower. The views of Istanbul and the tower are breathtaking and its a great start to the day. The area of Beyoğlu is lively, with music, art and boutique stores. The main street runs from Beyoğlu to Taksim square and is called Istiklal Avenue. This street is always buzzing with so many people. We decide to view the colourful rainbow stairs and enjoy venturing off the main strip. We meet an artist who shows us his studio and enjoy the many interesting shops along the way. We then decide it was time to check out the Asian side of Istanbul so we catch a ferry to Kadıköy. The ferry is a fantastic way to see Istanbul and only takes 20 minutes to reach. Kadıköy is known for its street art so we walk the district and take in the atmosphere. The reason we visited Istanbul was to see our friends we met when we purchased our sailing boat in Turkey. We spend the nights dining out, tasting the many unique foods on offer and have loads of laughs. Istanbul lived up to it's reputation and we hope to return soon.
