Just prior to weighing anchor, the galley sink refuses to drain. I remove the hose and clear the blockage, but discover that the seacock (valve) to the through-hull does not close all the way. I reconnect the hose and the boat is once again watertight. Or so I thought. I check on it while sailing up the west side of Culebra and see that the hose is dripping. I tighten the clamps and the drip slows. So we are off, northwest bound to the Florida Keys. The winds are fresh, and we are making good time. By the following day the leak is increasing, however. There's no turning back now (for it would be all upwind), we shall have to make repairs as we go. Hello Friends, On this episode we travel back in time a bit to May of 2018 when I bought my "new to me" gimbaled alcohol stove then we snap back to the present time and get to work on designing and building the closure for the stove. Triteia came with a fixed alcohol stove mounted in the galley. While alcohol is a much slower burning fuel than propane it has a couple of advantages. First and foremost its not explosive, this is my main reason for sticking with alcohol. The other main reason for me is that I am outfitting our boat to sail all around the world and I have seen a lot of videos of cruisers struggles to get propane in far flung places. I finally found the time to get started on installing the oven so this episode shows my process of making a template and cutting the pieces out of plywood that will later be laminated, trimmed out in teak and installed in the galley. Finally the boys meet Archer! We didn't take them to the initial inspection or the survey, so it wasn't until after we'd moved out of our old house that they finally got to see their new home, and trust me when I say we talked about it A LOT! Thankfully they were very excited and quite appreciative. We've got some good kids there. This week we installed the new overhead (ceiling) in the boat. We go into details on the steps we took. Specifically, we focused quite a bit on the material we used to insulate to reduce/eliminate condensation. We also do work on the wiring since we are in the ceiling, we needed to replace the lighting in the room. Quando mudamos para o mar uma das minhas preocupações era ficarmos muito sozinhos e, claro, sentirmos muita falta dos nossos amigos de São Paulo. Sentimos sim falta dos nossos amigos e da família, essa é a parte mais difícil de morar longe. Mas por outro lado o mar nos trouxe tanta gente legal e tão disposta a nos receber, que nos sentimos como dois recém chegados em uma comunidade que nos acolheu de braços abertos. Os primeiros amigos que fizemos por aqui foram os Strega, Paula e Fer, que coincidentemente são de Bauru, do lado de Jaú, minha terra natal. A Paula me ensinou muuuuuitas coisas, desde truques de limpeza até usar meias no barco alheio no inverno - jamais pensaria nisso! Seria injusto não citar nossos amigos de marina Dani e Bel, sempre dispostos a nos ajudar e fazer companhia nos dias de faina (ficar presa na marina pra mim é sempre uma parte indigesta dessa vida). Mais recentemente conhecemos a Miriam e o Webber, dois exemplos de como a vida a bordo pode (e deve) ter um pouco de rotina, com horários de almoço, rituais de café da manhã e liberdade ao cair da noite. Conversamos bastante sobre o que seria uma rotina minimamente saudável e isso é algo que ainda não alcançamos no Barba Negra - AINDA! A Bruna e o Jairo, sempre super agilizados e com mil contatos na manga para ajudar em tudo o que é preciso. E a Bruna com suas receitas incríveis capazes de te fazer ajoelhar e agradecer. Enfim, mesmo nos conhecendo há pouco tempo, parece que sempre estivemos lado a lado. Dri, Jamille, Dani... temos tanto em comum, nos desafios das limitações da vida a bordo, alguns que ainda enfrentamos, outros que tentamos transpor juntas, trocando experiências em uma fraternidade difícil de se encontrar com pessoas pouco conhecidas em terra. Talvez por falta de tempo, talvez por falta de interesses em comum, talvez por mero acaso. A verdade é que por aqui somos quase sempre muito parecidos e temos tempo para encontrar no outro algo que nos agrade, para respeitar e admirar no outro a simplicidade que nos une por termos escolhido essa vida mais leve e rodeada pela natureza.

After a break of more than a six months on the build I am getting back into the hard yakka, so have produced three short videos detailing where I am now and what's next. Part 1 is a brief look at the hull condition and the problems with heat.

Part 2 is a brief look inside the hull the condition and the next few steps I will take to progress the project. This includes a look at the general cabin, pilot house and rear berth areas.

Part 3, a look at the rudder post installation and re-alignment needed after welding last year. The rudder post moved very slightly after being welded, preventing the rudder shaft top bearing from fitting. Some slight adjustment will be required.
