In this episode we are finally free of the yard and after saying our goodbyes, we take a quick shakeout sail up to Sandy Island in Carriacou. We notice that the prop shaft and stuffing box is getting quite hot on the way so take a few hours to do some repairs but eventually carry straight on sailing up to Bequia, a lovely little town full of sailboats, fresh fruit and veg markets and happy people. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, Khiara's parents are making the epic journey to come for a visit and have a few mishaps along the way. Back to us in Bequia, we're so excited to finally get the boat back in the water though that after only a few hours ashore, we both get itchy feet and want to set sail again! Volcanic craters, hurricanes barreling down, and a bumpy ride with the most beautiful sunset we have ever seen. THIS...was an interesting few weeks for us. We start out by trying to spend a few nice days at anchor next to a simply stunning sunken volcano. We wake up the morning after arriving, ready to explore...only to find out there is a hurricane barreling down on us. With 7 days until it hits, we have to decide what to do...and fast! Back in Ponta Delgada we had given a detailed account about the approaching storm and our plans....but a few weeks later when we went back to review the footage we found out there was corrosion to our 3.5mm jack...and we lost sound! (You'll see. And let this be a lesson to check new footage IMMEDIATELY.) When it is time to leave Ponta Delgada we head out in the afternoon and have a wonderful downwind sail, although conditions build overnight and lead to a rolly morning. Thunderstorms surround us, BUT all that cloud cover leads to one of the most beautiful sunrises we have ever experienced. Much love from the Azores! How to tie the Water Bowline knot 🥨 : (Vulcan method). I really like this knot because, well, I like super-charged knots, and this is a bowline with a bit of extra spinach. ... It's really useful for tying off your 🚤 tender to the dock (a Bowline knot can slip if it's pushed and pulled) . It's called the Water Bowline because it likes getting wet. Perfect! .... If you use the Vulcan method, (see our video how to tie a Spock Bowline as well), it's dead easy. ... First off, make that Vulcan Salute 🖖 and remember to mutter "Live Long and Prosper" under your breath. Not too loud otherwise the other yachties might start staring at you. ... Now loop your working end round your 3rd and 4th fingers like you would in the Bowline. Now make another loop around your 1st and second fingers. ... If you are tying off to a ring, this would be a good time to feed it through and back. ... Now you are just going to get your 🐰 rabbit (working end) up and down 2 holes instead of one. Easy! When you come back round the standing end, just follow the line back and you have your turbo-charged Bowline. If a dinghy drifts off the dock, I bet it's not yours, you'll be the one smirking over a cold beer.
