What an amazing week! We completed our sail across the Cyclades Islands, Greece and cruise past Piraeus, Athens where our sailing and boat buying journey all began almost exactly 1 year ago. Just in time we make it to the somewhat sheltered Kalamaki anchorage near the Corinth Canal before 50-60 knot winds hit all around us. After a few days hanging out with all the large ships waiting for the blow to stop we get our first glimpse of the amazing Corinth Canal and then we get to cruise through the Corinth Canal! Did you know the Corinth canal cuts off the 240 km journey around the Peloponnese. It is 6.3 km long and ranges between 21 and 24 meters wide. The depth is between 6.5 – 8 meters and roughly 12000 ships pass through per year. The Corinth Canal has a lot of history, including being put out of action by the Germans at the end of World War 2. Today the canal is susceptible to landslides, the last of which closed the canal for two weeks in February 2018. It is also host to swimming contests, Jet Ski passages and bungee jumping. Once on the other side we enter the Gulf of Corinth between mainland Greece and the Peloponnese and the calmness of the Corinth Canal is quickly forgotten as we encounter continuous 30 knot gusts off the mountains and building waves. Finally the gusts and waves settled down, however we face our next challenge as our prop is fouled by an unknown object. The next day we watch another brilliant sunrise as we cruise through snow capped mountains towards the world's longest cable-stayed bridge the Rion - Antirion Bridge towards the Ionian Islands, Greece. If you are interested in the process of passing through the Rion - Antirion Bridge, we show what we experienced. Hope that helps :) Thank you for watching, we hope you enjoy! Follow our Journey Please subscribe if you want to see more sailing videos, and if you liked the video please give it a thumbs up as this helps us. If you have a question please ask, we will always get back to you :) About us: Our names are Jason and Tracey and we traded our house, cars, business, job and security for freedom, adventure, travel and living simply amongst nature and the seas on our 45 foot Hanse sailing boat, Kawai. We don't know exactly where the winds will take us at this stage but over the next year we hope to sail to Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia, Italy, Spain, Morocco, Gibraltar, Canary Islands and then across the Atlantic Ocean. Saving Dolphins? Okay... not really, but George does channel his inner dolphin 'saver'. This week we welcome our very first visitors to our very small home- my sister, Liz, and beautiful niece, Coral! We had the BEST time diving together in the Keys again and exploring with them. *no dolphins were hurt in the making of this video. 😂 also, Anna edited this video and George wasn't talking about Flipper the movie, he was talking about Flipper the TV show but... ya know age gap and all 😂... anyway... still gets the point across... The boat utilises a hard-chined, plywood construction and this design of boat is a proven, capable, ocean-going vessel. Boat building with plywood is a relatively easy and cost-effective way to produce a strong, monocoque-style boat hull. These videos aim to show the way in which I go about it. Thank you! Tony

In this episode of Sailing Chelsea we enter into a race (lol) from Los Christianos, Tenerife, to La Gomera, with our friends Judith and Patrick (SV Vivente). We only stay briefly in La Gomera as we pop back to Tenerife to have Ryan's brother, Liam and friend, Mick on board for a few days. Once they had gone, we decided to head back to La Gomera. The weather was predicted to be a little strong but that is an understatement of what we came face to face with! It's a pretty scary sailing trip with a lot of lessons learnt. Main one being - REEF EARLY!! Karl is back in the water! One more time he got his butt fixed and is floating again. Thank you so much to all of you for your encouraging words and for the support of our videos, which helps to keep Karl afloat! After various discussions with different professionals, I decided to import a big 8mm 5086 aluminum plate from the states that will be welded on to the hull from the outside. Before putting the plate on, we cut six holes in the hull with a diameter of each 12cm where the plate will be welded to the boat from the inside first. I hired a welder, David, who works for an aluminum ship builder in Panamá and it seemed that him and his helper did a good job. The plate feels solid, no water coming in so far, so fingers crossed that it will hold up! Oh, and say hi to my new crew Simon! So great to have some company and a second set of hands on board! Gunboat vs Outremer - who will win!?!? It's not a fair fight. The Gunboat is 66 feet, has 12 foot daggerboards, a much higher mast, larger sail area and carbon fiber reinforced. The Outremer is 51 feet, has 3 foot daggerboards and is made of fiberglass. Let's not even mention the price difference. But now that Gunboat and Outremer are made by the same company in France (Grand Large), it's worth discussing how similar they truly are. Both are designed with performance as THE priority. Comfort is a close second. Price is clearly less of a concern for Gunboat. Both have very narrow hulls, utilize daggerboards to actually sail upwind and choose a larger sail area over a bridge-deck helm seat. Their bows are both extended, moving the center of gravity back and limit bow displacement that would slow the boats down. The only real difference is how much you are willing to pay for exotic weight saving materials and the stiffness associated with Fiberglass (Gunboat!). So who won? The Gunboat, silly. Of course it won. And it wasn't really a race, anyway. But still, it was a lot of fun trying to hold the Gunboat off. And I thought you all might enjoy seeing it... I guess the real question is = which red is nicer?! ----------------------------------- ABOUT US: We are a family of five sailing around the world on a performance catamaran named "Archer" and sharing our adventures in family-friendly episodes on YouTube! OUR ROUTE: We departed the Boston/Cape Cod area of the United States and sailed down to the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal. We have dealt with massive repairs in the South Pacific, the Coronavirus lock down in New Zealand, a Category 5 Cyclone in Fiji, and now we are cruising in Australia. OUR PAST: You may remember us as "SV Honeymoon?" Ten years ago ("before kids"), we sailed a Lagoon 380 named Honeymoon halfway around the world to Sydney, Australia. Along the way we shared our experiences via YouTube and, by happenstance, created one of the very first "sailing channels." We also realized what an incredible experience we were having and that someday we wanted to do it again, only this time with kids. FAQ: More questions? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions page on our website or answers to many of your questions in this 40 minute episode: https://www.the-sailing-family.com/faq https://youtu.be/jBzTUVZ5oG4 PLEASE COMMENT!: As a channel with kids on-board, we are required to actively monitor all comments, but we still want to hear from you. We're in Tauranga, New Zealand and in 1860 this place was the site of two of the bloodiest battles fought between the Maori and the British. The outcome of these battles would have a lasting impact on the Maori with effects that can be seen and felt even today. This is my take on this war and these battles and what I've learned from how the Maori have responded to them today. The Week of Mardi Gras in New Orleans is a State celebration. So much so that school is out for a week in Lousiana during the week of Fat Tuesday. So we use it as a second Spring Break. We loaded up the girls, hooked up the camper and headed to the West Coast of Florida. We are still entertaining this idea of being in Florida with the boat and we are thinking that buying waterfront property may be better than throwing half that money away toward slip rent. Join us as we look in Hudson, New Port Richey, Apollo Beach, Tampa, Clearwater, Gulfport, Placida, Don Pedro Island, Port Charlotte, Burnt Store, Punta Gorda and other areas along a 2 hour stretch of the West coast of Florida. We will show you the property, nautical charts, water depths, deals to be had and what became a mind-numbing experience we needed to take a break from. Took me a year and half to do this video for Decathlon, not proud of it, but I think it was worth the wait, what do you think? TURN ON SUBTITLES: Henry is french, so am I, so sometimes, guess what, we speak french. And that's also why I work a lot to provide subtitles in english and in french, to turn them on, you can click on the CC button at the bottom right corner of the youtube player, and click on the small wheel to choose which language you want the subtitles. This link also explains the process pretty well : https://www.wikihow.com/Turn-On-YouTube-Subtitles More on Instagram #thesailingfrenchman and on the facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TheSailingFrenchman/ Music: Quentin Buffier - El Oelha : https://www.facebook.com/El-Oelha-522963817773156/ and http://quentindummkopf.wixsite.com/el-oelha The Anatomy of Frank - South America : https://theanatomyoffrank.bandcamp.com Samuel Scott McCumber : https://soundcloud.com/samuelscottmccumber and https://open.spotify.com/artist/3kjqCOTD5l4VTHHOzX2W83 The Dying Wake: https://www.facebook.com/dyingwake/ Gypsy Thief https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5gDmXj0WqCct5H4i7Hywrw https://www.facebook.com/GypsyThief-1646532742246627/ Holly’s Hat Trick https://open.spotify.com/artist/4zEdrvXJN3ZDaf20jGM1jY?si=qGutHkkzQpyTZMbL-vuztg Time Toulouse https://open.spotify.com/artist/5gsMP8HkiI1IYhX1hp5tuA?si=rqom3ZdxTAeiOMxxLeMhAA https://soundcloud.com/joakimmalmhed https://www.instagram.com/jockemalmhed Simon BC: https://soundcloud.com/simon-bc Aimar Morelo Music: https://www.behance.net/aimarmolero https://soundcloud.com/siberianrailway RETROBLUE Soundcloud:https://soundcloud.com/retro-blue Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/RetroBlueofficial1/ Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/track/3iD7LnIuzBBaXEJD8RORYa?si=6LgRWwW3SnqwHtZE_kEssg Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/RetroBlue_official/ Apple Music: http://itunes.apple.com/album/id1445566632?ls=1&app=itunes https://www.bensound.com http://teknoaxe.com Help us caption & translate this video! https://amara.org/v/C2oFV/

In this video I give you some tips regarding finding leaks by the portlights and hatches. At the portligts you will find water inside the frame if the portlight is leaking. At the hatches you can spot moisture at the rubber strips if the hatch is leaking.

Our good friend Danny from Los Angeles arrives to Great Harbour to join the summer friday crew for a week. We spend a couple of days at Great Harbour Cay Marina (this place has the nicest staff, great facilities and bikes available for guests to use). We spend a day at Shelling Beach - probably the most incredible beach we've ever seen, followed by lunch and drinks at Beach Club, a cool restaurant/bar overlooking the white sand beach. We say goodbye to Great Harbour and head for our first anchorage in the Berry Islands, at the southern tip of Hoffman's Cay, just behind Fowl Cay. From this prime location, we take a short dinghy ride over to a small beach that opens up a narrow trail to a 600 feet wide blue hole surrounded by lush trees and rocky caves. While the plunge looks a lot further down than 20 feet, the experience is totally worth it! After one final day of beach hopping, snorkeling and foraging for coconuts near Hoffman's, we sail south for a few hours to Whale Cay. This island has a fascinating history that Keegan is obsessed with so naturally, this is a big highlight of our trip to The Bahamas. *You can download/purchase The Queen of Whale Cay: The Eccentric Story of "Joe" Carstairs, Fastest Woman on Water HERE: https://amzn.to/2tZYrYj Our Berry Islands adventures come to a close as we sail over 40nm to the east end of Nassau, where unfortunately have to say goodbye to Danny. ::FOLLOW US:: Instagram: @sailingsummerfriday Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sailingsummerfriday/ Website: https://sailingsummerfriday.com ::SAILING SUMMER FRIDAY SWAG:: https://sailingsummerfriday.com/shop-sailing-summer-friday/ Are you down to summer friday? In this episode I transition through some very confused seas created as a weather front passes over- I discuss a few tactics to use in this situation and show a few ideas on how to stay ahead of the wind speed and angle changes the front brings with it. My name is Chris Stanmore-Major better known as CSM. I have over 300,000Nm experience in racing, cruising & expedition sailing and have raced twice around the world. I sailed solo around the world in the Velux 5 Oceans Race in 2011 (in Falcon's sister ship) becoming the 182nd person ever to circumnavigate alone. This channel is for sailors of all skill levels and backgrounds. My passion is seamanship & self reliance and helping others realize their sailing dreams on their own boats - whatever size or shape of craft that may be.
