With a constant water leak sinking our boat, we install a NEW stern tube and fix the problem! https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we arrive back to Langkawi with a boat full of NEW gear to install onto Nandji. Upon our return to the boatyard, we had a special delivery from Australia, our NEW Stern tube! We had been waiting on this to arrive for weeks as we need to install the stern tube, to then install the shaft so we can align and position the new engine correctly. We have had a trickle of water though the hull on the outside of the stern tube since we burnt out a bearing on our journey to the boatyard and created a hole in the old stern tube. We take you through the installation process of the new Stern tube and solve our water leak for good! With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the next big adventure. Currently on the hard stand, we are re-powering and completing a major refit! We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced different cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades! Indian Ocean here we come!! This special episode narrated by Kona shows our adventure from a dog's perspective. We have a couple of first timers as crew and cross from the mainland to Baja after exploring some of the surfing towns in the Puerto Vallarta area. We try to get our ducks in a row in preparation for the South Pacific crossing, but unfortunately, have to cancel doing it this season.
Sailing to Dutch St. Eustatius. Diving the reef. Getting Nitrox trained. Climbing into the pre-historic volcanic crater wilderness. s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) has a wonderful sail from our favorite island of Nevis to Dutch run island of St. Eustatius (Stay-sha). Sailing down the lee side of St.Kitts we see the island in its full splendor for once, with no cloud covering its majestic volcanos. Approaching Eustatius we see its volcano, The Quill, along with the famous “white wall” on the NE side. We anchor in Oranje Bay next to Oranjestad town which still has a lot of quaint colonial Dutch architecture. The lower town, once a bustling and thriving wharf was decimated by the English in retaliation to the island giving the first American ship a gun-salute in 1776. You can still see the remains of the stone wharfs, and some warehouses are nicely restored. We have 2 dives in the National Marine Park and take our Nitrox exam with the ScubAqua dive school, run by a very pleasant Dutch gang. One of the days we climb The Quill and into the crater, which is like a lost world, untouched by Europeans. You could be in a Jurassic park film set. We were overall very charmed with this little island, its cute town and warm people. But forecast meant we had to move onto St. Barths before we were really ready. 18-21 January 2019
Experiencing engine failure twice and coming face to face with a wild Dingo on Fraser Island. The life of a cruising sailor can be very varied, having to fix an engine issue in the middle of a massive thunder and lightning storm is not our favourite occupation, and coming face to face with a Dingo after being told that they have attacked humans here was a little scary. We are a British couple who set off from England in 2016 to fulfill our dream of sailing around the world on our 37ft sail boat, Florence. Along the way we share the live aboard lifestyle with and lows of travelling around the world by boat. This week, curtesy of Bruce and Sarah from SV Catabatic, we are invited to join in their annual fun, building small boats from natural materials found on Urupukapuka Island. To give everyone else a chance we arrive fashionably late and only had 15 minutes to throw together our vessels. They floated, but realistically don’t pose a threat to any of the other competitors. (The boat that leaves all the others in its wake just happens to be Bruce’s). We also take a whistle stop look at the beautiful historic town Russell, New Zealand’s first European settlement. We rent a little red car at the Great Harbour Cay marina for $60, and we take off to explore the entire island from North to South. First stop is the "Rat Pack Ruins". This old club house is where Frank Sinatra and even John Wayne were known to hang out. It's in pretty rough shape, but it's still intriguing to imagine the types that would frequent this off-the-beaten-path club house. Next we set off for the Sugar Beach Caves. It didn't take us long to locate the right spot with the clearly defined walking path. WOW, this cave was amazing! Such a cool beach as well with it's small pools of water. We'll be back for sure. We grab a quick lunch at the Beach Club Grill, and then head off towards Shelling Beach. I'm not sure if we were in the wrong spot because there was a distinct lack of shells here. Oh well, it was gorgeous none-the-less. Then after enduring an onslaught of hungry no-see-ums while we get our snorkeling gear on, we swim across Shark Creek towards Hawksnest Cay. This post is supposed to be great snorkeling, but the swell was so rough that we weren't able to make it out to the charted snorkeling spot. It was still a great adventure though. Finally, we return to the boat after a full day of island exploration. Thanks for watching!! I finally got the opportunity to sit-down with President of the Luxury Financial Group, Noelle Norvell. She answered a ton of questions I had on catamaran lending, and offered some really good insight. I can't wait to put together part II in a couple of weeks. Snorkeling in La Jolla may just be the best spot in all the California coast. On this day the seals were super curious and the water visibility was good. This was at Children's Pool and Seal Rock which is just south of La Jolla Cove. Follow my ocean adventures: https://www.youtube.com/c/TRVS #lajollasnorkeling #lajollafreediving #trvsundrwtr

Swimming with whales in Vava'u. Swimming with humpback whales was the highlight of the Vava'u islands. Humpback whales come to Tonga to breed and give birth and Tonga is one of the few places in the world where you are allowed to swim with them. We had our friend Sharon onboard for 10 days. Sharon had never swum with whales before , so spending time up close with a mum and baby humpback was an amazing experience for her. The weather is a little tricky as instead of the typical south east trades, we get a week of westerlies. We find good shelter in Hunga lagoon even if the entrance is a little tricky. In between kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling and drone flying, we find time to celebrate Shazza's birthday. And did we mention, we swim with Humpback whales :-) Footage from August 2018 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ☕️ Want to Buy us a Coffee? We are Jo and Rob, a slightly crazy husband and wife team, who decided on a whim to sell up and set sail . We had no prior sailing experience when we bought out 40ft catamaran 'Double Trouble' , but hey, mere details right? We moved onboard in January 2017 and have been learning ever since. We love our life , both on and under the oceans. We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment ,so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. No fishing rods for us . Join us for fun and games as we set off around the world at walking pace. 👏Credits: Thanks to 'Shure ' microphones for voiceover sound. 🎼Music: DT Theme tune - 'Happy' by MBB https://soundcloud.com/mbbofficial Creative Commons — Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported — CC BY-SA 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b...
