These waters are also some of the bluest waters in the world in the Caicos Bank and best for diving! However, like most of the Caribbean Sea, they too are ridden with the invasive lion fish! Upon dropping anchor in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos, we bid farewell to our two crew and waited for the next one to fly in! In the meantime, we decided to do some exploring on land and underwater and made a local friend who offered to take us to a "nearby" reef to do some snorkeling. Everything was going great and we even got to check out a few old Haitian shipwreck sailboats on the beach. Then, we got back in the water to do some spearfishing and had our first scary emergency at sea! Chris accidentally got stung by one of the lion fish. After a trip to the emergency room because his hand was turning black, he was writhing in pain for the next 12 hours! Luckily, his finger came back down to normal size enough to sail again. So, with our new crew member Colin, we weighed anchor and headed for the Turks Passage! Hope you fellow explorers enjoy this episode! Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. We are told by an ancient Guna man of a bushwalk that follows a pipe that leads to a mystical magical lake where the Guna's pipe their fresh water from. I get a first hand look at how Gunas do repairs on this pipe and I like what I see. Nothing but quality here too. We visit a place called East Cocos Banderos and I visit the remains of a wreck and come face to face with a barracuda. On coming back we meet my second favourite bird, a booby bird, which doesn't really seem to be scared at all of humans. And no I don't like the bird because of its name. A huge mass of sargasm comes to surround us so before it starts stinking we make our getaway and head to West Cocos Banderos and have a late afternoon BBQ of snapper. After four editions of the Pomorskie Rendez-Vous – the shipyard’s signature lifestyle event in Gdansk, Poland, the time has come for a little change of scene. Partnering with Porto Montenegro, Sunreef Yachts has set course for the Adriatic Sea and the beautiful city of Tivat to organize the first edition of the Montenegro Rendez-Vous. From May 30th till June 1st the event gathered a select group of guests including international press representatives, business partners and yacht owners for a unique experience combining the discovery of Montenegro’s natural and cultural heritage with cruising on the finest of luxury multihulls. Falling asleep at the helm is not like falling asleep at the wheel. We did and went off course and not off a cliff. Nat was hungover and I was tired from basically solo sailing most of the day. Which started good, than got hard because of poor judgement and cockiness. And in the night the wind died and the autopilot also went to sleep. So we slowly drifted for an hour or so. Nat started the motor which immediately woke me up. We motored until sunrise and a rising breeze. When it hit 10 knots all reefs were off and we were gloriously sailing Galopin under full sails. We made it to our destination. Sal island and the port of Palmeira in 25 hours, which was what I had projected. We started hard but ended it all ended beautifully. This was sailing at it's finest.
