Before setting sail from Antigua to Barbuda, Bermuda, and then Newport, we do last minute provisioning. The trip takes about half a day to Barbuda, five days to Bermuda and four days to Newport. We must plan emergencies and the entire journey. Since veggies are our favorite (we're a mostly vegetation boat) getting to the farmers market is essential. Once the big chores are done, we do some precooking and make a few extra snacks. By the end of our day of running errands, we are ready to sail! We sail over to St Julians bay to meet up with Paul and Lucy overnight! Had a great time swimming, relaxing and enjoying some drinks! The next day we made the 2 hour sail up the coast of Malta to the small island of Comino and anchored overnight in the famous blue lagoon! Despite being a huge tourist spot we enjoyed this amazing spot in peace with very few boats and people around! We were invited onto the boat anchored next to us for a few glasses of wine. We had what felt like the entire island to ourselves so we explored around and let Jackson run for the the first time in ages! He was in heaven. Hello Friends, This week I take y'all back to the inner workings of the Navigation Station. This video was shot as a separate segment while I was building out the Nav Station in an effort to try and make a "How To" video about NMEA 0183 and how I dealt with the very small wires that are associated with this type of network. I had looked and looked online to try and see how other people had gone about making the connections on a network that wasn't "plug and play" and couldn't find any videos are blogs about this subject so I made this video so that in the future other sailors will see how I went about it. We had the chance to visit and live in many beautiful countries including China, Hongkong, Thailand, Romania, Lithuania and France with our previous jobs, that made us realize how fast the world is changing and how fast the life is going and there is no “later” than “now” for the project we have in mind. In early 2019 we took a one-week sailing courses that opened our eyes of new ways of travelling and changed our life style. In June 2020, we decided to sell everything we own, house, car and lot of stuff that we do not need anymore so that we can buy a sailboat and go for an undetermined voyage around the globe. We bought a catamaran Lagoon 450s delivered in France in July 2021. We invite you to share with us our adventures of learning, exploring and making our project come to life. Nachdem wir immer wieder Schwierigkeiten mit verstopften Treibstoffleitungen hatten, war es an der Zeit die Dieseltanks einer gründlichen Reinigung zu unterziehen. Die Taktik jedes Jahr im Herbst Diesel bis zum Einfüllstutzen einzufüllen, damit sich möglichst wenig Kondenswasser bilden kann, war leider nicht von Erfolg gekrönt. Auch der Einsatz diverser Dieselpestbeseitiger war erfolglos. Ab heuer werden wir die Tanks jedes Jahr im Herbst komplett leeren, und im Frühjahr dann das entstandene Kondenswasser auswischen und frischen Diesel einfüllen. Mir ist schon klar, dass nicht auf allen Schiffen die Tanks so leicht zugänglich sind wie auf Squib, das Problem wird sich aber durch vermehrtes Beimischen von Biodiesel sicher noch verstärken

A rapadura é doce, mas não é mole não! Pois é, meus amigos, mesmo vivendo no mar, tem dias em que a gente se pergunta: o que eu vim fazer aqui mesmo? rs! Na verdade o pensamento no Barba Negra estava mais para "Meu Deus! Como Angra deixa a gente mal acostumado!". Confesso que pensei "acho que hoje eu vou ter que nadar!". Mas o susto passou rápido. Saímos das Palmas às 4h da manhã com um prazo apertado para chegar na boca da Baía da Guanabara antes de uma previsão às 15h de visibilidade reduzida - que aconteceria com a entrada de uma frente. Sim, fomos novatos! Acreditamos que chegando às 15h na baía estaria tudo bem. Pois lição aprendida: previsão não é previsão e frente não tem hora marcada! Saímos motorando e batendo consideravelmente com um NE na cara que nos impossibilitou de velejar. Depois de um amanhecer que podia preceder uma velejada poética tudo foi se acinzentando e as ondas começaram a crescer. O vento começou a aumentar consideravelmente, perto dos 20 nós e nossas velas começaram uma a uma a serem rizadas. Primeiro a genoa, depois a mestra, que num jibe acabou ficando presa no estai. Pânico a bordo! Achamos que ela se rasgaria. Mas quando (com muito empenho) puxamos o segundo rizo ela se soltou!). Só com a mestra no segundo rizo e nos ventos de 30 nós (quem disse foi o comandante do Kabulete) fazíamos 13 nós de velocidade. As ondas lavavam o convés pela popa e molharam nossos pés. O problema foi a aterragem, passamos a 20 milhas da costa e, na volta, acabamos por pegar as ondas de popa, que combinadas com o vento de través fizeram o Barba Negra adernar consideravelmente nas surfadas. Na entrada da baía, a chuva chegou, nos molhando e gelando com o vento e fazendo a baía da Guanabara desaparecer por completo! Foi rápida, mas fria, muito fria! Passando a entrada, mais chuva! Mas aí já estávamos a salvo das ondas, era só vento e mais algumas milhas até o Charitas...
