We arrive at Hiva Oa, Marquesas, French Polynesia, after 25 days at sea. It’s time to check in and have a look around and try to find some fresh produce. We do the 3km hike up and over the hill to the little village, but there isn’t much fresh stuff to purchase. We need to wait for the supply ship to replenish the shelves. But, we do manage to get baguettes which makes us really happy! A couple of supply ships turn up so we replenish our stores. After a few days at Hiva Oa we head off to the nearby island to check out a beach anchorage and then head back to Hiva Oa to the north side of the island. We take the leap and buy a hurricane damaged boat in the BVI's. We sell everything we own, pack up our lives and fly to the BVI's where we move aboard our sailboat Zephyr! In this episode of Sailing Zephyr we put my brother, Marcus to work. In this last week before our Atlantic crossing we have a LOT to get done. With an extra pair of helping hands, provisioning is made easier, however it still takes us a full day! We take some arvo's off to head over to Maho Bay (the scariest beach in the Caribbean) and watch the planes take off and land (a little too close for comfort). https://www.sailingzephyr.com SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL Click the bell to be notified when a new video is up. Best surf destination in the world! Sailboat anchored between 3 breaks in Mentawais - Sailing Ep 155
The Mentawais are reckoned to have some of the best surfing in the world. With the spectacular Indian Ocean bowling waves at the beaches for thousands of miles, there are hundreds of breaks to choose from. And there's plenty of action going on at the epicentre of this surfing haven around Kandui Resort, even at the beginning of the season. We stayed for a couple of days and soaked up the vibe. If we'd stayed any longer Jamie would have been out there wiping out with the best of them! Thanks to all our fabulous supporters, we LOVE you! And Happy 4th July (America Day, Independence Day...) to all our fantastic friends from the USA! Peace and fair winds, and don't forget to follow the boat! With the children leaving home we decided to sell our house in the UK and buy a boat in Holland. After two years refitting our Hans Christian 48T we have now set off a world voyage. We are retiring early because we want to attempt this voyage in good health and while we're fit and strong enough to really enjoy it. We will have to work a bit as we go until we can draw our pensions and we honestly don't know how well that will work. In our real lives we are journalists and filmmakers so it was only natural for use to document our travels by filming the journey. We aim to produce a professional standard vlog of the whole trip and try to give the viewer a real insight into what it's like to live and travel on a 48 foot sailboat. Our first aim is to sail South. After a winter getting iced in on the Markermeer in the Netherlands Judy insisted on warmer weather! So if you start from Episode 1 you will see us setting off from Eastbourne in the UK and travelling along the South Coast to Plymouth to enter a rally called ARC Portugal. Our first goal is to reach the Mediterranean and that means sailing across the infamous Bay of Biscay. This was a very good test for our boat as the bay lived up to it's fearsome reputation and split the whole fleet with a force 10 storm. Storm Miguel cut through our path and meant we had to run to mainland Spain to escape the massive seas and fearsome winds. Six boats couldn't make it in time and spent several very uncomfortable days at sea. The fleet had several broken boats, but thankfully no injured people. And this was just Episode 2! The excitement continued for the rest of our trip to the Med. Dolphins played in our bow wave, we sampled fantastic local foods and wines, great port in Porto! We found some beautiful anchorages and visit some wonderful historic places like Lisbon in Portugal, Cadiz in Spain and the fascinating port of Gibraltar. We will show you what it's like to winter in the Mediterranean, how much it all costs and give hints and tips on where to go how to save money with your boat and the places you stay. We are also talking to other sailors. After years of broadcasting journalism we know how to get peoples stories and we regularly film other sailors to show their boats and lifestyle as well as ours. We can always learn from others. Our long term plan is to spend a few years in the Mediterranean, on our list of place we want to visit are; Mallorca, Malta, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Italy, Tunisia, to name but a few! When we feel we've seen the best of what the Med has to offer we will cross the Atlantic to the Caribbean, we are hoping we can fit in a trip to the Azores on the way. We have no idea how long we might want to stay in the Caribbean but we do intend to have at least one excursion up the Eastern seaboard of the United States to visit the wonderful sailing areas of Florida, Virginia, sailing Meccas such as Chesapeake bay and hopefully get all the way up to New York. Of course the South Pacific is somewhere every sailor wants to go and will be a real draw for us. So going through the Panama canal will be a real milestone and we really look forward to having the big doors shut behind us and sailing into the biggest sailing playground of all! #sailingfairisle

16: AN AMAZING TRIP TO HANGZHOU - The food, people, history, sites, and lake - NOTHING CAN BE MISSED
Hangzhou is an amazing place to visit and experiencing life there is a joy. We loved seeing the variety of dancing that spontaneously popped up around the lake. It was a highlight for the locals as well as they were able to let their creative juices flow! Hefang Street and the surrounding walking streets are a quiet break from the busy city streets. With only pedestrian traffic, you could meander without the worry of the cars. The architecture was beautiful with boutiques selling custom crafts and trinkets and eateries were everywhere offering unique Hangzhou traditional foods. We ate at various vendors trying all different kinds of delicacies. Hu XueYan Mansion was just a short walk from Hefang Street outside the gate at the southern end of the pedestrian area near the Catholic Church. The tall white stucco walls hide the gem found inside. The mansion is well worth a 2-hour visit; hire a guide and go on a weekday to avoid the crowds. Once on the estate, it’s difficult to navigate with all the passageways, small rooms, outdoor gardens, and courtyards. The guide will give you background information that you would never otherwise have so it’s well worth the time to get one. Take time to look at all the details; it’s truly amazing! #china #chinalifestyle #chinalife #qingdao #hangzhouchina #hangzhouspark NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. We promised the next video would be a real cracker of a classic wooden boat - and you'll not get much better than this one. Say hi to Peter Duck who was once owned by the famed Swallows and Amazons writer Arthur Ransome. Now owned by another well known writer/book reviewer (Yachting Monthly) and publisher Julia Jones. We travelled to the east coast for an exclusive chat with Julia and son Bertie. The video is a little longer than normal - so make yourself comfortable - you're in for a treat - a popcorn adventure. As always copyright Bob Aylott, myclassicboat.com, also Julia Jones and our new music by Dave Houghton and Pip De Ste Croix. We got married this year and while we didn't have anyone taking video, we got sent a few mobile phone video's of our wedding dance from our dear friends. We've finally had time to go through them while on this sailing trip and after editing them together, it gave us a good laugh and some good vibes... so we thought we'd share it with you, and hope you get the same. Not exactly dancing with the stars, but I like to think I move ok for a white boy, and Mari is Brazilian so of course she is pro! Either way - when the time is right - you have to shake it.... Btw. My beautiful mum made Mari's dress by hand. Spectacular. Hoo ra.....

The star attractions of the island are its beaches. We land the dinghy and explore the beach at the southern most point of the island. Made of angel blond sand and turquoise water, the beach stretches out endlessly. Plus there is hardly anyone around. Nat takes advantage of this golden spot and lets her inner child out. She’s a sand angel on an endless beach. We hotel crash and beach bar hop. Take on a dinghy hitchhiker and continue on circumnavigation of the island. We stop at yet another unlisted anchorage. We're totally alone, It's calm and spectacular. We're more than 3/4 of the way round. Please make your voice heard: Subscribe, like, dislike, or comment. Six months ago we started our journey in Greece with little sailing experience, figuring things out as we go, not really knowing what we're doing. Our goal is to circumnavigate the world via the wind, always being surrounded by the ocean. Sailboat life is super different from land life and can be pretty rough at times. see the little things is the documentary of our endeavour of simplifying life, decelerating pace, and practicing mindfulness. Follow our adventures when you are curious to see how we mess up and fix it up again! We are currently still sailing Greece, but will head over to Italy and beyond soon. Those 4 meter seas we had been expecting? Yup, they finally made their appearance. On Day 4 of our passage from the Azores to Ireland, the remnants of a nasty depression just east of us finally made their way over to where we were sailing. Winds gusting up to 30, not too bad, but the waves did start to build as well, becoming very frothy and topping out at a little over 4 meters. By that same afternoon though the storm passed and we were back to our usual 2 meter seas. We still haven't quite got out of our passage 'blahs' yet, and we're not sure if it's just taking us this long to adjust to a life back at sea, or if the constant gray skies are keeping us in a subdued state of being. We do hit one more milestone though, where we sail the furthest north we've ever been...47 degrees! Plus it marks our halfway trip to Ireland.
Hi Everyone, Lennie and I decided to take some formal safety training and we learned a lot while having a great time at SUNY maritime college in New York City. This US Sailing class includes a hands on field day along with an online course that was really fascinating. Seems amazing we cruised 12000 miles without taking this course and believe me we were probably not as well prepared as we thought for safety. I think the biggest takeaway was all the radio comm info along with life jacket training. It's hard to explain just how much info is packed into this course and I encourage anyone who boats to take it. Oh yeah....we also had some of the usual Randy and Lennie fun in New York 😁 www.svhappytogether.com Song list: "Sailing" by Leisure Cruise "Empire State of Mind – Piano Cover" by David Sides "Empire State of Mind" by Glee "Surfin' U.S.A" by Sounds of Summer "Smoke On The Water – Live in Graz" by Deep Purple "Down Under – Live" by Men At Work "Safety Dance – Live " by Men Without Hats "Feel So Close" by Calvin Harris
We've finally posted our introductory video. They'll improve as we go, honest! We really wanted to get some content on the channel to get the ball rolling. If you have ideas for content you'd like to see, please let us know in the comments. We have two more videos in the works as we speak, and several ideas for more as we work toward making this venture a reality. Sailing Vessel Dark Angel is in the early planning stages. There's a long, hard learning curve before we turn the key on our dream catamaran, but this whole process is part of the adventure! Come with us as we explore the world of catamaran sailing and live-aboard cruising. We'll discuss the hurdles we need to clear and what we are doing about them. There is much to learn and a great deal of planning to turn a vessel as complex as a modern cruising catamaran into an energy efficient, practical, live-aboard home. We really aren't your average couple. Many people we discuss this idea with simply can't grasp what we plan to do, or why we would even want to. We dream big, and we work hard to make our dreams come true. We'd be delighted to bring you along with us! While you wait (im)patiently for our upcoming videos, join us in following some of our favourite sailing channels on youtube. If you feel inspired, you can lend your support by becoming patrons to the channels you'd like to help succeed. We can't do this without your help. Click 'like' if you appreciate a video. Subscribe to our channel, and don't forget to click the notification bell to be informed of new content, and if you REALLY like what we are doing, please join our crew and become patrons of SV Dark Angel. It's not expensive and every patron helps us considerably! We will share and apply what we learn, and patrons will receive early video releases, swag, and other goodies as we get rolling! Windkante Suchen: 1.
