Nous quittons Aruba pour rejoindre Carthagène en Colombie. Une traversée mythique… mais redoutée : celle de la péninsule de la Guajira, souvent surnommée le Cap Horn des Caraïbes. Les premières 24 heures sont parfaites, le bateau file à 8 nœuds de moyenne. Mais la deuxième nuit, tout bascule : un grain violent nous surprend à 22h, 45 nœuds par l’arrière, malgré notre retenue de bome, le choc et trop violent, ça casse, la bome fini son empannage et casse à son tour. On finira la traversée sous génois seul, avant d’atteindre Carthagène de nuit, fatigués mais heureux d’être arrivés. Comment vous dire ? Cuba c’est spécial, c’est un monde à part, hors du temps. Nous naviguons depuis la baie de Samana en République Dominicaine ; 2 jours et 2 nuits mais surtout nous subissons encore une mer bien formée. Depuis le départ des BVI ce n’est que ça, et cela devient vraiment fatiguant. Heureusement, vous allez le voir, nous mouillons parfois dans de petites baies au calme plat : rien de mieux pour se reposer ! Il est impossible de mettre pied à terre tant qu’on n’a pas fait les formalités et nous ne pouvons les faire qu’à Santiago qui se situe déjà assez loin sur la côte sud-est. Cela nous empêche de profiter de certaines haltes et de leurs habitants forts sympathiques. Toujours en surveillance des hauts-fonds (on ne nous y prendra plus !) l’entrée dans la baie de Baitiquri est très délicate : passage étroit et peu profond, heureusement bien balisé mais vent, vague, marée et houle dans le dos ! Encore une belle frayeur ! Après deux mouillages très sauvages en pleine nature, nous arrivons enfin à Santiago de Cuba mais dans le noir ! Il est un peu plus de 21h quand nous pénétrons dans la passe car nous avons manqué de vent pour y arriver. Et pénétrer dans une baie inconnue, dans le noir, avec des petits pêcheurs tout autour et ensuite s’amarrer à un ponton dont on ne sait s’il est correct ou pas, c’est encore du stress pour terminer cette navigation. Nous allons donc profiter de ce quai durant trois jours pour nous reposer et visiter la ville et le fort à la pointe de la baie. C’est donc notre premier véritable contact avec l’île et ses habitants. On nous avait prévenu mais c’est bien plus surprenant que ce qu’on pouvait imaginer. Retour en arrière : quasiment pas de voiture et les seules aperçues sont des année 50-60, déplacements à cheval, en charrette, peu de commerce, coupures d’électricité quotidiennes. Les bâtiments et musées sont merveilleux car rien n’a bougé ici depuis plus de 60 ans. Et la population est extraordinaire, très accueillante et d’une extrême gentillesse. C’est le pays de la débrouille. Le plus : Santiago de Cuba est la ville de la musique cubaine, nous en avons pris plein les oreilles ! Plongez avec nous dans l’univers de cette île fascinante !

Jane took over the saloon today so that she could tackle insulating the starboard size, normally hidden behind the settee back, which we use as a "storage" dumping ground. This is the first layer of insulation designed to move the condensation point away from the hull. Between the stringers (which are foam surrounded by fibregalsss) we will have 40mm of xps sheet. They will be airtight sealed at the edges so it shouldn't matter that there will be an air gap between the foil backed foam and the fairly rigid xps. The xps will be held in place by 100mm plywood strips screwed to the stringers. There will be a narrow timber strip on the outside so that the screws don't punch through the thin plywood. We are painting the xps and the ply will be painted in a contrasting colour. You can see this in our top 10 interior changes video (set as the related video). We are now living aboard our Rival 38 Centre Cockpit full-time while finishing a refit so we can launch ASAP. This is your weekly Global Sailing Highlights show, first produced in 2008, and weekly since then, todays edition is dated, October ten 2025. The Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup is synonymous with excellence and ranks among the most impressive events on the yachting calendar. Organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in collaboration with the International Maxi Association, it offers crews a spectacular race setting in the emerald waters of north-east Sardinia, with varied conditions and testing courses. Extreme winds restricted racing in this year’s edition but the patience and perseverance of the crews and the race committee made it possible for a spectacular conclusion, with good weather for competition on the final day. After four days of uncertain weather, resulting in only three races, the 2025 Melges 24 World Championship, organized by the Yacht Club Adriaco in collaboration with the International Melges 24 Class Association and with the support of the Italian Melges 24 Class, delivered its verdict on the final day. On the final day of the 5.5 Metre French Open in Cannes, the wind died initially but then picked up to 15-18 knots, leading to two races where New Moon III (BAH 25), with an unbeatable lead, won the first race, and then won the final race as well to claim the overall title.  On October 26th, the TRANSAT CAFÉ L’OR, will be off to a great start! In the meantime, onboard 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗨𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺 𝟰, experience the intensity of a start alongside Anthony Marchand, Navigator and Julien Villion, his co-Navigator. Day 8 in Sylt was one for the history books, as the Freestylers lit up the North Sea in perfect conditions. Lennart Neubauer was unstoppable, smashing the 40-point barrier in every heat and landing the first-ever contest triple culo on his way to victory in the Single Elimination. He sealed the win in the final with 44.2 points, edging Yentel Caers, who stays firmly on course for a third world title. Day 6 of the 2025 ILCA Master World Championships in Formia proved to be one of the longest and most demanding days on the water. The fleets launched under light and unstable conditions, with the A P Delta signal at 14:00 starting an afternoon of patient waiting and tactical challenges. Norway has taken the top spot in the women’s skiff at the end of day two of the 49er FX World Championships. Pia Dahl Andersen and Nora Edland have taken a two-point lead from the Spanish team who were on top at the start of the day. But there’s only four points splitting the top four teams from Norway, Spain, Australia and Canada. Riccardo Pianosi and Jessie Kampman resisted enormous pressure in the medal series to become the 2025 Formula Kite World Champions. After a week of drama, it was a climactic finale on day six of the Formula Kite World Championships in Quartu Sant’Elena, Sardinia.

A short video of International One Metre Model Yacht Racing at Lincoln Radio Sailing Club on the 5th October 2025. The Clive Hand Memorial Race is held each year at LRSC for IOM Model Yachts and helps raise funds for the RNLI. Helms from all over the UK attend for a day of competetive racing on the lake at Scotland Farm, Lincoln, UK. Model yacht racing (often refered to as Radio Sailing) is a competitive form of yacht racing run along similar lines to dinghy racing and keelboat racing. Different classes of model yacht are raced, these range from inexpensive mass produced yachts to expensive craftsman made boats. Model yacht racing is a sport in which small sailboats generally under one metre in length are raced against each other in a controlled environment such as a pond, lake, or indoor swimming pool. The only method of propulsion is the wind on the sails. Electronic radio controled winches are used to trim the sails and steer the yachts.
