In 2018 I changed til gasket around the plexiglass to a new one but it was still leaking due to the frame not was tight enough fitted around the rubbergasket, at first I fixed the problem by adding some painters tape to the edge to make it a bit thicker, the point was to get a tight fit. It worked perfect but water and algaes has now eaten up the tape and the hatch is leaking again. This time I use the world known butyl tape, it is a sticky rubber like product there is restant to UV and water, the butyl is a product there was used a lot on boats back in the 70 and 80ies. Now adays they just use nothing or a small amount of silicone to keep the costs down.

We drive from Bavaria into Italy and spend some time the stunning Dolomite Mountains before heading down into the heat of Venice for a quick stop. Then we head north again to the cooler mountains again and towards Slovenia. We’ve pulled the kids from school and are home schooling while on the road and the water. We spend time aboard our 34ft sailing boat in NZ and have bought a motorhome in Europe so as to tour the other side of the world. We’re keeping our memories on video here and the kids write narration and play guitars so we have music to use in the videos.

Join our family on an epic adventure as we learn to live aboard, sail abroad and explore the world together. We plan to document our journey and travels and share it with those interested. For us, this is pretty epic, as we lived a traditional life before this. Making the decision to sell it all and take this leap was huge and we feel grateful to have the opportunity to do this and to share it with others. Prophecy Trimaran WAGS 30-10-19

At 5am we awoke to an intense, flashing white light coming from outside the boat. We looked to the West and saw a small, but extremely angry looking thunder cloud moving rapidly toward us. The cloud was pure black and menacing with non-stop lightning occurring from within it. Right about the time the cloud went overhead the wind speed instantly went from 5 knots to 80 knots. We were deafened and blinded by torrential, wind-driven rain. The boat violently heeled over 90 degrees to port and our anchors began to drag. We were hit by a microburst. The cabin was immediately in disarray. All manner of previously stored items were tossed about cabin from the boat whipping back and forth from one extreme to the other. I glanced at our chartplotter and saw that we were dragging BOTH of our anchors at well over 2 knots. Thankfully we were being blown in the only safe direction there was. Any other direction would have put us onto an unforgiving rocky shoreline. The 14:1 scope we set the 2 anchors at only served to slow the boats speed a little. We held onto each other and tried to stay calm as I monitored our drag path. Then, just as quickly as the chaos began, all was still. The experience was truly horrifying, but lasted only 5 minutes. We've been through some scary experiences during our time traveling aboard our sailboat, but this was the worst because we were completely helpless and fully at the mercy of the weather. The weather was fantastic and we got incredibly lucky with wildlife on this trip with whales, turtles, sharks, birds, octopus etc more than we expected.

Another trip to Myall lakes NSW in Jan 2019 3 days of pure bliss. Cruising from Violet Hill ramp to Shelley beach and Kittaway bay and all around. Mid week very peaceful. On my beautiful Stornoway 18 a Lug sail Gaff Yawl built buy Scruffie Marine design by Derek Ellard.

Walk around video for Ebay's BostonsGarden Fresh out of storage for @ the last 20 years! Just like the B-52's song says "This Chrysler is as big as a whale!" Classic 4 door hardtop with a 400 under the hood. One family owned since new, from a large summer bird estate up here in northern Maine. It was their family cruiser when they all came up for the summer. Car is just out of storage where it's been gathering dust for about the last 20 years. Estate's year round care taker would pull it out every fall& spring to run it even though it was no longer used. He also kept it clear of mice with mothballs & I think I found them all & am in the process of getting that smell out. Car runs& drives fine, shifts smoothly. Barely turn the key& it starts every time. The idle is a lil rough at first but clears out once it's warmed up. Gas gauge doesn't work& I just filled the tank to be sure& play it safe so it doesn't run out. Also has an exhaust leak by the muffler. The dashboard brake light is on& not sure why, reservoir has fluid so maybe the emergency brake? As can be seen from the video it has it's fair share of dings scratches, flaking paint here& there but overall is very solid including the all floors& frame. There is some rust over the right rear tire& surface rust in the trunk.

I spend several weeks anchored off of the Deltaville Boatyard waiting for two new sails to arrive from New Zealand. Saturday, October 26 brings a decent weather forecast to head south to Hampton, Virginia, which will be my departure point for Key West. But there is no wind anywhere near Jackson Creek, and I end up sculling the boat all the way out of the channel. A pleasant sail ensues once out into the Chesapeake Bay, though I have to negotiate a narrow, crowded anchorage at the end of it. Until Independence in 1980 Vanuatu was an Anglo-French colony known as The New Hebrides. We enter the capital, Port Vila on Efate Island, to complete Bio-Security and finalise all the entry formalities into the country. Whilst there we had to wait for sail material, and new gearbox components from New Zealand. We see the devestation caused by Cyclone Pam in 2015, several sunken vessels litter the harbour. We experience Mama's Market, which is open around the clock with women from all over the country selling fruit and veg. There was a parade through the streets to protest about ethnic tension resulting in a killing and violence. A Tannese man was murdered by a group of men from Ambrym. A couple of weeks later a ceremony was held which saw the Ambrym Chiefs and community give a plot of land and VT100,000. They also presented a token of apology and forgiveness with gifts of pigs and food. We spent time at two nearby museums. Suzanne Bastion Foundation, featuring Patrice Cuto's 'Maps Blong Vanuatu'.We met the artist Aloi Pilioko an 85 year old man with yellow hair, the same colour as much of his art. He and Nicolai Michootouchkine both celebrated artists who have exhibited their work worldwide. We attended a spectacular Fire Show at Mele Bay. Every Friday night the youth from Wan Smol Bag Theatre, show off their talent. The group started in 2011, previously unemployed they grow and develop their skills.They were trained by a volunteer English circus performer Mr Rik Hinton.

Boobies are just the cutest, especially the blue-footed ones. The way they dance and pick up sticks to show how good of a nest they can build...Just super sweet! I could watch them for hours... Isla Plata is a very pretty island, just off the coast of Ecuador mainland. Since it's been declared a National Park and commercial fishing has been banned, the bird colonies have grown back to quite extensive numbers. And there are many many curious turtles surrounding my sailboat Karl. Yes, it has a bit of a Galápagos feeling to it... And that fishing net encounter...as you can tell, I am still processing what happened out there. It was a bit of a scary moment and it's crazy how quickly they are over but then you look back at them and realize that they actually had a stronger impact than you thought they had. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. This is one of “A day in Life” series of our videos - we’ve already done “A day in life in the anchorage”, and “A day in life on a hard/ in a boatyard). As you might imagine all these days a a bit different… Here we are on a 480NM sail that should take about 3 days and 4 hours or so.. We start with doing the night watch shifts and start day as normal - setting up the sails and having breakfast until we find out that the video that I finished up in a rush and uploaded while having internet is corrupted by sound errors (I should have watched it after it was “cooked” and before uploading but that’s another 30 minutes) and we made a decision to fix it and take off the way closer to the island where we can get internet signal and re-upload it. We do not have time nor knowledge if it’s a suitable place for anchorage so that was out of questions. I start out by setting a fish bait so we can go see crocodiles at night, unfortunately it didn't turn out as one would expect....no no really. Nothing but absence of quality. I go for a spear and see another big grouper, a wreck and a huge dog snapper swims right up to me in 5 feet of water. I don't shoot it because it is way too big. I keep hunting around to find a much smaller dog snapper which I eventually find. A shark comes in to take a look and then hangs around wanting a free meal. I have no fish float with me so I have to swim it through the whitewater back to the dinghy. The good ol' shark follows me all the way in ensuring I get back to the boat safe n sound. Good on you shark. I have always said that sharks are carers and sharers. I team up with Andie and try his new foil board. He shows me how and I have a go. It is freaky. The whole bay is surrounded by vertical cliffs up to 700 meters high, and provides an awesome opportunity to fly. This was a category five cyclone with wind speeds up to 280kmh (175mph). Winston was the strongest tropical cyclone to ever hit the South Pacific basin with devastating effects. Amazingly only 44 people lost their life. We are in Delaconi village, the gateway to the beautiful bay of islands, this is the first time on our trip through the east of Fiji that we have seen the damage that Winston wrought. We are very proud that the New Zealand government and her Navy had come to the aid of the people who live here. We are also blown away by the beauty of The Bay of Islands and its turquoise water ways. And to top it all off, before we leave the incredible Lau group, we are having a bonfire with friends. In 1997, after a disastrous Olympic rowing campaign, Rob decided to row a seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014, we invested in Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Robert's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with our three children, Finn 17, Declan 15 and Ivan 12, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world, meet the locals and record our adventures. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. We finally got the fishing rod holders installed on the way to Gibraltar and we caught some fish! The first ones were too small and we threw them back. But then Lisa landed a nice Mahi Mahi.
