Oie!!

A bit of a disturbed sleep in our anchorage in Ha’apiti. The surf is HUGE, to huge even for Jackson and Dave to surf and it makes for very strange conditions in the lagoon where we are anchored. Very keen to get off the boat and explore the island for some kitesurfing. We really should be more organised in terms of how we are going to get there though. Then its time to say goodbye to our friends on Sailboat Gea. We’ve been buddy boating with them for the past year and we have grown deeply fond of them and quite frankly despair at the thought of doing this without them. But they’re headed off to the Society Islands and will make their way home to New Zealand, and we’re off to Niue and eventually Australia. We’ve got a package waiting for us in Tahiti that we bash though 20 knots of breeze upwind to retrieve. And now we’re pretty much ready to make tracks out of French Polynesia! It’s been real. In this episode of Sailing Chelsea, we explore the beautiful coast of Arbatax before a stormy night with some epic lightening. Faye gives Ryan a haircut to remember (and not in a good way!) Ryan goes home to work, whilst we wait for the repairs to start on Chelsea, leaving Faye and Poppy alone in yet more stormy weather which causes damage to our light wind sail - shredded and UV strip torn off - not good! Our review of Aleader's water shoes. Overall we were extremely happy with them - great for our lifestye. The shoes' main features are extremely quick drying (we are talking a matter of minutes!), very light weight, as comfortable as slippers, cool designs and perfect for walking on rough surfaces too. We definitely recommend these. In this episode, after roughing-out the starboard side Rabbet into the Stem, I make a jig to transfer the measurements for the shape of the Keel Timber from the lofting floor to the boat itself. Then I start working on actually shaping the keel to its final shape, firstly using a TurboPlane wheel on a Grinder, and then switching to a good ole’fashioned Adze. Crossing the Mediterranean on a sailboat from Malta to Spain: 900 nautical miles in 6 days! Video of how we dealt with my burn at sea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuxtQO6pqqo&t=168s We started our crossing from Malta, where we had been spending a couple of weeks prior to departure. The weather conditions were absolutely perfect for an East to West sailing passage at sea, with downwind all the way. Although we had to motor the first day, the rest of the passage was for the most part as glorious as it was uneventful. On the 5th day, I burned my leg while making coffee, and we considered re-routing the boat to get me to a hospital. But all things considered, we were fairly well equipped to deal with the injury until we’d arrived at destination, and we continued to Almerimar. Owning a luxury yacht is the dream of many, and achievable for more people than you may think. Some busy business owners just don't have time to figure out the purchase process though, and so are put off exploring yacht ownership due to time constraints. This series of videos is designed to take the mystery out of yacht ownership, showing not only the process involved in buying a yacht but also the costs.
WATERMAKER PARTS EVERYWHERE!! Fixing a WONKY Install and TESTING IT OUT! As our departure from the US grows more imminent, the "tech" videos keep coming...this week, the watermaker! Happily, our boat came with a pretty nice Spectra watermaker. Sadly, it was installed by lunatics from an insane asylum. After much studying and inspection, it seemed less and less likely it was ever really used, especially considering the primary intake wasn't run properly. AND they had eliminated our microwave space and had run numerous hoses all the way to that space in the galley where they had mounted the valve panel. Nope. We decide to basically start over and consolidate all the pieces parts. But becoming less and less sure this thing was ever stored properly...will it actually make water that won't kill us?? Enjoy!! And be sure to SUBSCRIBE for WEEKLY CONTENT EVERY FRIDAY! Cheers!! Thanks for watching SailAway, the travel documentary of an adventurous sailing couple, plus toddler and dog, sailing the world! Photography is not picturing reality. It’s picturing the dream behind the reality. At least this is how I see photo art. But who knows what is real? In the film: This is a little documentary about Tali creating Wave Art while sailing on a circumnavigation. Follow her thoughts about ocean waves photography. An insight into an artists view. Congrats to Joachim Isler and Drew Taylor for winning IRC Class 1 in the 673-mile Hong Kong to Vietnam Race, an epic downwind ride from Hong Kong to the Asian paradise of Nha Trang, Vietnam. AMBUSH won IRC Class 1 impressively in 2 days 7 hours. "Our UK Sailmakers A2+ was our secret weapon this race," said Taylor. Impressively, AMBUSH averaged 13.6 knots for the windy downwind race that started Oct. 16th. Taylor proudly set the boat's speed record for the race at 25.95 knots.

In this week's episode we have our boat painted... Nope, not the boat itself but an actual painting of the boat on the front of our house. Sounds Crazy, right? It looks great. This week's video shows the prep work in landscaping and then a timelapse of the artist painting for 2 days in about 2 minutes. It looks really cool. Thank you Sandra Priest for the awesome rendition of our boat! We also show some tree pruning of palm trees and getting rid of a nasty bush in the front yard. And like most weeks, Swab and I got on a our bike ride date to Starbucks, and this week rode to the convention center and the hardware store before heading home. All good stuff.
