We spent two more nights in paradise with our friends aboard before sailing back to Antigua's Carlisle Bay. We just can't get enough of Barbuda. It's also a speed demon, which is important when you want to cover large distances of water before the weather changes. Lastly, it's backed by the manufacturer with outstanding customer service and aftermarket support, so we believe she will hold her value well. And, she's nice on the eyes too. OUR ROUTE has taken us from the Boston/Cape Cod area of the United States down to the Caribbean and then on to the Panama Canal. At the time of posting this we are dealing with a repair in the South Pacific, and in 2020 we hope to be in New Zealand and Southeast Asia. By 2021 we will be in the Med and close to completing our circumnavigation. Aproveitando a estrutura do estaleiro, enchi os tanques de água do catamaran. São dois tanques de 180l abaixo do piso de cada casco, no modulo principal do barco (o centro do barco, tirando as cabines de proa e popa, o resto é um tanque de água abaixo do piso) Tem mais 3 tanques acima das pias. Uns 40l na cozinha, uns 30l na suíte de BE (boreste) e uns 20l no WC na cabine de proa. Portanto o barco deve ter uns 450l de água, o que é pouco, portanto, água deve-se economizar muito a bordo! Até eu ter um dessalinizador esta vai ser a norma por aqui, muita economia de água! Infelizmente vazou água pelas tampas de inspeção, devo trocar as borrachas duras por mais macias e que vedem completamente. Mas está tudo funcionando muito bem!

Guatemala City ist eine aufregende Stadt, in besondere, wenn man sie mit dem Fahrrad erkundet. Marcos aus dem Hostel Ketzalroo hat uns ein paar nicht so touristische Ecken in Guatemala City und ein paar kulinarische Köstlichkeiten seines Landes gezeigt. Danach ging es zurück nach Fronteras, wo Karl schon sehrnsüchtig auf mich wartete und unruhig an seinen Festmachern zog. Matthieu ist für kurze Zeit auch noch mal an Bord gekommen und wir sind zusammen nach Cayo Quemado gefahren, einer wunderschönen ruhigen Bucht ein Stückchen flussabwärts. Dort wollte ich mir bei Tom in seinem Segel- und Rigging-Loft einen KVA für mein neues Rigg abholen. Natürlich darf ein kleiner Ausflug mit dem Dinghi nicht fehlen. Alle meine Segel müssen hier und da etwas geflickt werden. Das Großsegel hat ein paar kleine Risse und muss an einigen Stellen etwas verstärkt werden und auch meine Genoa braucht etwas Liebe. Das Gute ist: meine Segel bieten mir viele verschiedene Ansatzpunkte, um unterschiedliche Reparaturmöglichkeiten zu erlernen. Tom, der aus den USA ausgewandert ist, und sich hier in Cayo Quemado ein Segel-Loft aufgebaut hat, zeigt mir alle seine Tipps und Tricks und lässt mich sogar seine tolle Nähmaschine benutzen. Schnell wird noch meine Persenning wieder zusammengeflickt und etwas verstärkt. Ich bin sehr dankbar, immer wieder so hilfreiche und liebenswürdige Menschen auf meiner Reise zu treffen, von denen ich so viel lernen kann. Danke, Tom! Am Anfang ist es noch recht windstill, doch nachdem Maria mit Nachdruck um Wind bat, zieht eine dicke Regenfront auf, die außerdem noch einige Blitze geladen hat. Gar nicht so schlecht, da wir erst im Dunkeln in unserer Ankerbucht ankommen und die Blitze und die Umrisse des Ufers zeigen. Maria ist für eine Woche nach Guatemala gekommen und wir segeln zusammen mit Peter von Drum Thunder über den Lago Isabal. Dort angekommen leihen wir uns seine Kajaks und machen einen super schönen, aber leicht anstrengenden Ausflug. Aber springt an Bord und schaut selbst! I know, I know, this Episode is a bit dry. It´s about boat works again. But we got many requests for more detailed description about the setup of our Lithium batteries. That power Vela Nautica and provide electric comfort even when we anchor. So its more interesting for boaters who like to improve their boats. Paul from S/Y Ya Fohi even traveled down to our anchorage at the Algarve to look at the installation in person. One important aspect to many request was also the price tag. Most sailors are not rich, so to invest in an expensive standard batterie system, as offered by some companies, is out of question. We found a way to get a maybe even better performing batterie and BMS for our boat, for a fraction of the price, like usualy offered. We got offers, asking 12.000,- €, only for the batteries half the size of ours, plus nessesary electronics. If you pull these offeres you might well come up with a final price of 15k to 20k. We considered of course also the safety aspect and implemented all kind of fall backs to prevent casualties. Durante el invierno es normal aprovechar para hacer labores de mantenimiento en los barcos. Reparar, sustituir o simplemente mejorar sus diversos equipos de cara a la próxima temporada, pero tambien es posible aprovechar para navegar, si las condiciones meteorológicas lo permiten. La mayoría de las personas piensan que solo navegamos en verano, pero lo cierto es que en mi opinión y desde el punto de vista exclusivo de la navegación a vela, el Mediterraneo ofrece mejores condiciones durante esta época que en verano. Más viento, más regular y más constante.
