Blake and Toby embark on a sailing adventure to Rangitoto a dormant New Zealand volcano. Blake describes volcanoes for kids by talking about how a volcanic island is created and we show you some footage of the sailing boats anchored in the bay. Blake and Toby walk part way around the island Rangitoto in Auckland, New Zealand, they find volcanic rocks to throw, Blake slips and hurts himself, our family find a native New Zealand bird called a Saddleback. The boys acknowledge the White Island tragedy. For the video next week, we show a short clip of dolphins swimming by our yacht. We make the heart-wrenching decision to say goodbye to our beloved 15-yr old black lab, Kaylana, after she experiences a series of health concerns. But first, during our last week together, we make sure Kaylana enjoys some of her favorite things, namely, exploring new places, eating ice cream, and seeing the ocean! We reached out to a veterinary hospice service called Lap of Love, which allowed us to have Kaylana at home with us. The day was particularly beautiful, so we sat outside with Kaylana, under one of her favorite trees. Although it hurts like hell to not having Kaylana (aka "face of love") here with us, we're grateful we had this time with her and for the most peaceful goodbye. Thank you for your patience! This is the video that took me the absolute longest time to upload: 52 hours to be exact! In this video, we tackle the second leg across the Atlantic with a 7 days passage from Lanzarote to Mindelo in Cape Verde, with our friends (and some of our first Patrons!) Jules and Tenney. Jules and Tenney were some of the best crew we've ever had on board, and we have fantastic memories of sailing with them. The first days, we never had such a smooth sail! Climbing a Deadly Volcano | 96 | Beau and Brandy Sailing Since we’ve been at anchor in Saint-Anne we were able to meet up with a lot of great people. We all decided it would be a good idea to climb Mount Pelee which is just north of Saint-Pierre. An early morning van ride a few hours away to us to the trail head, that when we realized it was going to be a wet hike. The fog was thick as we ascended to the volcano rim. The winds were so STRONG, they were pushing us up the mountain. Then the rain started, which felt like pebbles being thrown at our faces. After clearing down hill streams and keeping our footing we made it to the opening. Even though we couldn’t see much because of the fog, it was a great feeling being up there. To keep the journey going we moved anchorages just northwest to Les Anses-d'Arlet. We tried to fish along the way but got a tangled mess of fishing line halfway there. Once the anchor was set properly we did a little underwater exploring. The blue hole in Belize is a 125m hole in the reef, 300m wide, in the atoll called lighthouse reef. It is a national park, but we manage to stay inside the blue hole overnight, and miraculously have it completely to ourselves. We SCUBA and free dive our way around the great blue hole, and a absolutely stunned by the energy of this place. SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged 2012 Lagoon 450 Catamaran bought in Tortola, BVI at the beginning of 2018. Colin and his friend spent 4 months getting her seaworthy, before setting sail across the Caribbean. Follow our journey as we continue to fix her and eventually circumnavigate the globe! Mickey H. explains his experience as a first-time boat buyer with Atlantic Cruising Yachts. "So I’m here with Mickey on his brand new Saona 47. Mickey, can you tell us a little bit about your experience with ACY? Sure. So, as you said I bought a Saona 47. I bought it from ACY, Atlantic Cruising Yachts. I’m a first-time buyer. As a first time buyer, I did not know the process of boat ownership. ACY took me through every step of the way and it was really a pleasure because I quickly developed a sense of trust and it’s really wonderful when you trust the people you’re working with. In general, they took me through every step all the way to delivery. I went out to La Rochelle before the boat went in the water, saw it launched, had my ACY rep next to me, Baptiste – which is unusual – lots of dealers do not have a local rep but ACY does. That was tremendous. He took me around, introduced me to the contractors who were doing a few things to our boat before it went in the water. One of the benefits of going out to La Rochelle – 1. Going to the factory is a wonderful experience, but in addition, I sailed the boat back. If you have experience in sailing, it’s wonderful to be able to sail your boat back to the U.S. from La Rochelle and get the experience of just knowing your boat, knowing the systems, just flushing out all of the issues, so by the time you get home, you know the boat in and out and you are ready to start sailing. That’s what I did, and it’s been a wonderful experience for me. I encourage every owner to do that."
