Three Ways To Go Up Your Mast. Here's some tips. btw become a Patron, https://www.patreon.com/sailingvirgins Shooting in the beautiful Norman Island, BVI, Sailing Virgins Instructor Marco Mendes takes you through three ways to climb a mast. Three Methods (00:28) 1. Traditional 2. Fast 3. Solo Why go up the mast? (00:42) Safety tips (01.02) 1. Don't trust shackles (tie a double bowline) 2. Use two halyards if possible 3. Use a tether/leash 4. Establish communications above and below 5. Consider using a VHF 6. Lock your halyard in the jammer 7. Do a bounce test 8. Vigilant, competent wincher 9. Try to avoid power winches unless you really know them 10. Watch out for sensitive gear 11. Do this in good weather whenever possible What you need (02:48) 1. Bosuns chair 2. Bag 3. Lanyard 4. Shoes, gloves 5. Ascender for the solo method Traditional Crank-Up Method (03:18) - crank time 3 minutes Climbing Method (07:04) - crank time 52 seconds Solo Method (09:15) - crank time aaages Notes on Solo Method (this is important!) 1. The double-fisherman knot is essential to a prusik loop 2. You can also use an ascending device such as a jumar 3. You should have at least one locking carabiner, preferably 2 or 3 4. The backup prusik (12:10) on a spare halyard is highly recommended (you are not supposed to rely on the 6mm prusik lines to hold you) 6. Here is a great page on How To Prusik: https://www.vdiffclimbing.com/prusik-rope/ The solo method should really only be done by people who are well versed in prusiking techniques. Saba Island Adventure (15:18) The adventure part of our episode takes us to Saba. Saba Island is an incredible part of the Caribbean. A tiny population of Dutch people perched on top of a big rock, with a several-hundred-year history, this truly is a hidden gem. Sailing Virgins Gear If you like the Sailing Virgins swag you see, you can buy it here: https://sailingvirgins.com/product-category/gear/ - we have adopted a Patagonia approach to our apparel, using sustainable fabrics such as recycled bottles, and planting a tree for every product sold. Right down to our packaging bags (which are made from corn starch, a material that is more expensive but biodegrades), we are trying to create a brand that is world-class environmentally friendly. It's always a compromise (ie the best thing is not to buy new shit) but if you need a shirt, ours are probably the most environmentally friendly ones to buy. Want Free Gear? And Live Monthly Q&A? Become a Patreon supporter for as little as $3 an episode. This really helps us continue making these episodes. Is iFLY15 Hydrofoil Catamaran able to fly in less than 5kts. / 2Bft. of wind? See in this video iFLY15 taking off and staying airborne, while being sailed in different configurations: single handed, 2-Up with crew weight 180kg, with and without "CodeF". The revolutionary "CodeF" is an iFLY development and gets rid of numerous disadvantages of classic Code0 on a foiling boat. This innovation allows to fly as well downwind as upwind in the lightest breeze, always with zero rudder force. The sail creates lift, as it is not vertical. The foot of the sail closes with the deck, so no loss of pressure, like on the deck sweeping mainsail. "CodeF" light wind foresail : The Code0 for Foiling. comment of James Aron : " So, the angled headsail is actually a performance feature and not for the lack of a bowsprit? " iFLY15 Foiling Catamaran : " If we were thinking a conventional Code0 and bowsprit would be the best solution for a foiling catamaran, we just would have added a bowsprit and would have gone for a Code0. During AC even in lightwind racing we have observed, that the Code0 have not been used. They are not ideal. iFLY developed the new foresail concept of CodeF (name derived from Code0 for Fly) to achieve the following features: i) take off in lightest winds of 6-7kn and stay foiling in 5-6kn (2-3kn lower wind needed than e.g. the AC75 or GC32). ii) 100% full foiling upwind (up to 20degree apparent wind angle) and on all other courses iii) neutral rudder with CodeF and without CodeF (which is the case beyond 9-10kn). No tendency to bear away when headsail is up iv) fast and easy hoisting and storing away on the water v) not compromising the "normal" simple iFLY handling when sailing without CodeF, easy to take sails and all it's components from the boat, no furler, snuffer... vi) avoid disadvantages of Code0: tack too much foreward - problems when sailing upwind, setup of sailplan changed, boat wants to bear away vii) no additional weight and cost from bowsprit viii) no danger of injury resulting from bowsprit ix) center of headsail wind forces lower than Code0 - not so much heeling moment, compromising righting moment. Code0 is high, as tack needs to be high enough not to pierce waves with the bowsprit. CodeF tack is a lot lower and more aft, at the bow. x) CodeF foot is at deck level and closes with deck - no loss of pressure. perfect cooperation with decksweeper mainsail, creating jet xi) no additional drag in the air by bowsprit with stabilizing lashings etc, no snuffer ... xii) CodeF not only creating propulsion, but additonally creating lift, as sail in diagonal xiii) CodeF being excentered, not in the middle in front of mast, not interfering with mainsail. Allowing longer foot of sail xiii) CodeF is easy to tack and gybe, actively pulling tack to new leeward ... CodeF is a completely new concept of a headsail. " James Aron : " @iFLY15 Foiling Catamaran Wow, great comment. Was simply curious but you provided an unexpected wealth of information. Your are legends and won’t ever be forgotten! The world is surely happy to have generous people like you, well we at least are! Welcome aboard guys! Who are we? We are a Brazilian couple who have been sailing the world for the past 4 years, we left from South Brazil aboard our first sailboat, a small 32ft classic boat, Unforgettable! With little or no experience we learned a lot along the way and we keep learning more and more every day. 4 years and 15k NM later we are in our 3rd boat, Unforgettable 3, yep, life is full of surprises! We are currently in French Polynesia, exploring this amazing land, or sea, and sharing our adventures and experiences with you every Monday trough these videos made with love. We believe in an alternative lifestyle, closer to nature (where we all came from) and the importance of having dreams and pursuing them, because you're the only one that can make it happen. We've been broken a few times along the way, we get tired of things breaking all the time and being so vulnerable to natures will, but we really love living on the sea and sharing the reality of life aboard with you. When we started our youtube channel Unforgettable Sailing we had no idea we would meet so many people from different places and see so many beautiful cultures, we produced more than 100 videos in Portuguese, some subtitled to English, and now we felt the need to connect with more people and grown even more our great community, include these people we had the pleasure to meet onboard so we recently started to produce our videos fully in English. Hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoy making it! Fair Winds With Love Georgia & Diego Unforgettable 3

After 40 days of painting work we found out that we had left some spots behind. We are a Brazilian couple that have bought a 44ft steel sailboat (Dinieper Tropic 1200). In this episode We say goodbye to our brief boat life interlude and prepare to commence operation yard life. The purpose of our haul out was to finally (re)install the new Bruntons feathering propeller and to do a quick hull paint job whilst the boat was out of the water. We had a couple of huge days getting prepared to haul our boat out at Spice Island Marina in Prickly Bay, Grenada. But not before squeezing in a quick sail! - and we use the term loosely in this case! Next on our list is a quick clean of the hull... in the rain. But afterwards we receive the welcome news that our family are coming to visit a little sooner than we planned... the NEXT DAY. With governments around the world cracking down on travel due to coronavirus, Adam's sister and brother in law very rapidly brought their flights forward so they could ride out the COVID-19 storm with us aboard the Millennial Falcon. The next day we wake early and realise we have a mammoth day of hauling the boat, starting work in the yard, visiting John Kretchmer for an interview (soon to be released!) and then finally picking up our new visitors from the airport! SEASON 6 / The Haul Out : Episode #120 : Bottom Paint, Cockpit Drains and Seacock Bases Hello Friends, On this episode I show you an easy way to enlarge holes on the bottom for your boat. We needed to do this to oversize the cockpit drains from 1.25 to 1.5 so water will drain from the cockpit quicker when we take a large wave over the stern at sea... aka get pooped. We also knock out the first coat of Antifouling paint on the bottom, which was VERY satisfying! After that I sit down and show you how I went about making custom bases out of G10 fiberglass board for our bronze Groco Triflang seacocks. Each of the bases was tapped to receive a silicone bronze bolt that the Seacock bolts onto. If you enjoy our channel please "Like" the videos and Subscribe so you don't miss any future episodes. #beautiful #lovingthebahamas #lovelypeople Sailing in the Bahamas can be quite stressful due to the shallows and going through the cuts. We arrive in Georgetown after being isolated in the remote islands for nearly 3 weeks. It looked like a Metropolitan even thinking that’s a small town. Carla starts on replacing the Bimini, a big project considering the conditions. Simon fixes the outboard with what was available. Hey guys Patreon has a new STRUCTURE, come along and have a look! Thank you very much, you guys are amazing supporting us with your likes and comments, we really feel that we have a new family out there. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love Carla and Simon

In this sailing video we reach Bahamas and have a short stop at the island of Mayaguana to see if the customs office is open. Just before our arrival, the starboard daggerboard broke at sea. We spoke with the Fire Dept. Volunteer on the Island of Mayaguana, who said the customs office closed last year, and the island residents were lobbying the government to have it re-opened. Before leaving the island, Pierre dove under the boat to check the daggerboards and bottom of the boat. With all in order, we decided to proceed on to Georgetown. It was tempting to stop for the night, swim and enjoy the beautiful location. But with the US starting to close its border to certain countries, we were worried that border closures would spread rapidly. Therefore ,we hoisted anchor and sailed on for a third night at sea. We arrived in Georgetown and checked in – 2 days before the border was closed to all boats. Covid 19-Update The Bahamas has a "shelter in place" type order that started March 24 at 9 am. The goal is to protect the islands where Covid-19 has not yet spread because of the vulnerable population with lack of sufficient doctors and medical facilities on the outer, less populated islands. With the new rules, public beaches are closed, all airport and ports are closed to foreign vessels. We are not to leave our homes (or boats) except for 90 minutes of exercise each day, and only with family members living under the same roof. Everything is closed except grocery, which is reserved for seniors in the morning. No alcohol because it is sold in separate stores considered non-essential. There is a radio net at this anchorage each morning and people debated if we can move to different islands in our boats. The logical comment was the spirit of the order was to prevent foreigners from bringing the virus to the islands and keep locals safe inside in case they has already caught it. We should only move islands if we are headed out of the country. We are happy to have such a nice place to be in confinement. Learn how to tie the Double Fishermans knot in a matter of minutes. The Double Fishermans knot is a great knot for joining two ropes of equal diameter. The additional turns in the main part of the knot provide some benefits over the single Fishermans knot, making it more secure when not under load while making it easier to undo after it has been under load. The additional loops in the double fishermans knot does result in a larger knot, if this create and issue then revert to the standard or single Fishermans knot. To learn how to do the single Fishermans knot in another one of our Know Knots video, click the link below to learn more. https://youtu.be/AvFgCYWvqyg Thanks for stopping by and watching Bottom Up Boats latest Know Knots video we would love to hear your feedback on our Double Fishermans knot video. Do you prefer the single or double fishermans knot ? Finally thank to some of our facebook fans who suggested the introduction of the Honey Badger to make our basic knot video a little more exciting. If the Honey Badger takes off we may need to include him in more content. Not sure what the honey badger has to do with the Double Fishermans knot but hey ho..... PS you have to make it to the end to unlock the honey badger.

The second edition of the Whitbread Round the World Race cemented the race's place as a fixture and pillar event in the sport of sailing. Dutchman Conny van Rietschoten would claim the race on corrected time in Flyer, a Sparksman and Stephens design that can still be seen sailing today. Clare Francis became the first woman to skipper a boat in the race and Sir Peter Blake, making his second Whitbread appearance as one of the crew on board Heath's Condor, was forced to make a spectacular man overboard rescue in the Southern Ocean. 15 boats would start the race in Portsmouth and all 15 completed the four-leg, 27,000 nautical mile course.

Per me quest'ultima soluzione è quella giusta. Per me, ovviamente #StayHome e cucina #WithMe
