11 gennaio 2020 partenza della Cape2Rio. A bordo di Almagores 2 saranno 17 giorni di traversata, di regata, di avventure, di foto, di video. Ne ho fatto un diario che ora vi racconto 18 video dalla partenza a Cape Town all'arrivo a Rio. +14 Si apre un po il cielo malgrado ancora qualche groppi passeggeri più di pioggia che di vento. Si viaggia bene con gennaker in rotta a una media di 12 nodi. Dopo una cena con filetto al gorgonzola e patate al forno, il cielo ci regala un bellissimo tramonto con all’ultimo respiro, quando sparisce del tutto il sole nel mare, una bellissima luce verde. Il cielo si tinge poi di rosa, viola, arancione, che sembra un quadro impressionista. Ancora sotto il fascino dei colori vediamo piccoli delfini che saltano completamente fuori dell’acqua. Sembra che anche loro sono euforici del spettacolo di colori.

It is a fact that li-ion cells cannot go lower then about 3V to keep them in good condition. However, a one time draining the battery too much does not mean that the battery is destroyed forever. However, alot of chargers (and bms's) think that the batterypack is faulty because it does not have the values as should be. In my case, I salvage alot of cells out of ebike battery packs. There is mostly a piece of software/hardware safeguarding the battery condition. When the bike does not want to start, people go to the bikeshop to have a "read-out" of the battery pack. Their equipment will tell them that one part is faulty, or the complete pack. This is good news for us ....

After some serious condition in the southern Atlantic, we were looking forward for this Cape Town stopover. Since many countries are closed we don't know where we will be allowed to go on land again, but we can survive 4 month without seeing anybody :) This journey is only a small part of our trip that started 2 years ago. Pirates are not the "eye patch" depicted characters we think about these days. They are real and I have actually encountered some in my Sailing Voyages. I know cruisers that had been attacked by Pirates in Venezuela. How do we protect ourselves? A family in Australia sent me a mail to try and address this matter. Continuing our series of Tech Corner videos on jobs you might be able to get done on your boat if you're lucky enough to be able to get to it, even if you can't sail it. We're releasing this video on Bilge pumps from the Patreon site as it's an important item to check especially if you're having to leave your boat for long periods. Bilge Pumps are items that are often forgotten but vital when needed, when did you last check yours? We have three pumps on Fair Isle: a hand bellows type pump; an electric pump and a mechanical pump driven by the engine. We check them over, replace the automatic switch mechanism on the electric pump & talk about best wiring practices aboard.
