In this episode we depart Pablo’s underwater theme park and sail for Nassau to submit our passports to the US embassy. For those that want to know here’s the visa process for admission to the USA by yacht: Apply online for B1/B2 USA visa. Make appointment at the nearest US embassy for an interview. Submit passport for 5 working days. Collect passport. We had to wait until we were in the Bahamas to arrange an interview as the US embassy in the USVI was destroyed by Hurricane Irma! So we flew from Georgetown to Nassau for our interview which went OK and we were approved but as we needed our passports to fly back to the boat we arranged to drop them off once we’d sailed into Nassau. The guys at the US embassy are pretty strict but were super helpful for us. Nassau is home to the original Atlantis Hotel so I was super excited about going to the water park. FYI, the water park is $80pp admission and a 45’ catamaran is $250 per night in the marina with free admission for all crew (3 of us) so it was a no brainer. Our first night in a Marina in 4 months! Hi everyone. In this episode we sailing our Snapdragon 24 from Caernarfon up past Port Dinorwic/Felinheli as far as Britannia Bridge. On the way back though our engine failed and we have a bit of drama getting back into safe waters in high winds and big swell - for us anyway....... We are Andy, Melissa and Jack, a sailing family based in North Wales, looking for a bluewater sailing yacht to take us around the world. We currently have a very small 24ft Snapdragon Sailing yacht based in Caernarfon but there are bigger boats on the horizon. In this episode we sail up the beautiful Menai Straits, from the historic town of Caernarfon with it's magnificent castle all the way to Britannia Bridge, built by Robert Stevenson. Things were all going well until the gearbox on our engine died on the return journey. Of course we had an auxiliary but by this time the swell had increased and the prop on the auxiliary engine was coming out of the water and cavitating making it useless, and because the wind was coming from precisely the direction we wished to go we were in a bit of a pickle. We had a choice of either turn down wind and negotiate the infamous Swellies between the bridges and pick up a morning in Menai bridge under sail, or to ask for help. So we asked for help and a nearby fishing boat towed us into Feliinheli Marina. We sail into the pandemic, and it happens to be Mindelo Bay, Cape Verde Africa. No one was prepared for what would ensue. First major issue, Natacha has left the boat. Life in the city begins to slow down. I connect with my girlfriends and they come aboard. Then the port is closed and plans to rescue and retrieve a beached boat were aborted. Things start to take a more serious tone, but it's still pleasant to be anchored in the bay. And me , I always try to make the best of things, and for some reason the best of things come to me. WE HAVE NO IDEA what we are in for | 105 | Beau and Brandy Sailing Last week we sailed into St. Marten. Here we were going to reprovision and get work done, before heading onto Puerto Rico where we were going to visit with family. This week we switch anchorages from Marigot Bay to Grand Case. We were told this was a better anchorage from some friends and we are READY to get in the water and check it out! We snorkel Creole Reef and its FILLED with fish. You can see the coral life has been effected by hurricane Irma when she came through. We start hearing about Coronoa virus here. In over the next couple of weeks a lot of plans change for us. 26 mars, 9 heures du matin, position : 2º54'700 N, 78º21'670 E. 85,3 milles en vingt-quatre heures. La nuit n’a pas été sereine, plusieurs embarrassants ont encombré notre enceinte de sécurité. Celle que nous avons délimitée par rotation de notre radar s’étend à douze milles. Franchement, 24 kilomètres, c’est quoi dans cette immensité ? Quelles probabilités y a-t-ils de passer dans le même rayon de progression que six OFNI (Objet Flottant Non Identifier) à plus de quatre cent kilomètres de la plus proche terre ! L’océan n’est-il pas assez grand ? C’est dingue ça, en plus, la plu-part des signaux sont extrêmement vagues. Ce petit manège d’occupants énigmatiques sur notre traceur commence à nous agacer ! Il y a trois jours, les visiteurs étaient indiqués comme étant un hélicoptère, ou encore une fusée et cette nuit les intrus émetteurs semblent être des filets dérivants sans embarcation ! Le mystère est total et notre interprétation nous amène à nous persuader que deux des six inconnus, pourvus chacun d’un émetteur AIS, sont reliés l’un à l’autre par un filet de plus de 30 kilo-mètres ! Dans l’optique de cette supposition, nous avons dévié notre trajectoire de cinquante degrés et ce matin des indices viennent corroborer nos intuitions. À deux cent mètres de Black Lion, sur notre bâbord, défile une bouée blanche, s’en suit une deuxième, puis une troisième… Sur le qui-vive immédiat, nous identifions de suite l’embuscade, un bateau à plus de 6 milles de nous tire un filet de plusieurs kilomètres ! La parade incessante dure toute la journée. Des chalands entre 10 et 14 mètres apparaissent dans notre périmètre pour disparaitre quelques heures plus tard. Quand ceux-là restent à bonne distance de nous, tout va bien mais quand l’un d’eux se dirige déterminé sur Black Lion, mes angoisses reviennent ! Cyril est toujours là pour me rassurer mais c’est plus fort que moi, à l’approche des indiscrets, je sens tous mes membres se liquéfier ! Encore une fois, la démarche de nos pêcheurs nomades est purement solliciteuse, ils veulent des cigarettes ! Nous continuons à descendre en latitude, le ciel toujours suave se tavèle progressivement de nuages cotonneux et la mer comme stimulée à un entrainement intensif maintient ses mêmes mouvements langoureux pour atteindre la perfection ! Quel élément fantastique, cette étendue démesurée nous fascine autant qu’elle nous impressionne. Affable aujourd’hui, nous savons que ses colères peuvent être démesurées mais ça fait partie de son caractère et nous l’aimons avec ses qualités et ses défauts ! Pour ses vices, nous n’allons pas vous mentir, ils peuvent provoquer en nous, un sentiment de détestation profonde et moins nous sommes victimes de son tempérament hargneux, mieux nous nous portons ! Notre gruge pour échapper aux inflammations passagères de cette respectable vieille dame, les prises de météo et les dernières téléchargées par mon capitaine sont un peu contrariantes. Rien d’alarmant pour les quatre prochains jours mais si les prévisions se veulent fiables, une dépression pourrait bien se creuser au sud de l’équateur ! Et au sud de l’équateur, il y a quoi… il y a les Chagos ! Bien que l’atoll soit considéré comme en dehors des itinéraires de cyclones, l’un d’eux est passé tout près de la région en mai 93 et cela prouve que nous devons rester vigilants. Pour l’instant, nous ne visions pas forcement cette destination mais nous la mettions dans la parenthèse d’un de nos plans potentiellement réalisables. La conjecture est telle que nous ne sommes sûre de rien ! Les messages que nous recevons par la famille et nos amis sont agréables à réceptionner et nous font plaisir mais les nouvelles qui nous arrivent ne sont pas joyeuses. Le bouleverse-ment qu’il est en train de se produire dans le monde est inouï. Tous les pays ferment leurs frontières et même le Biot qui gère les Chagos a envoyé des réponses d’objections à l’ancrage dans ces îles perdues où absolument personne ne vie. Nous restons dans une incertitude absolue et nous sentons dépossédés de notre jouissance de naviguer, non que cette volupté ait disparue mais elle est parasitée par le trouble de la situation.

Great Keppel Island has some of the most amazing coral and marine life on The Great Barrier Reef that we have seen so far. Just off of Monkey Beach on Great Keppel Island is an absolute hot spot for blue staghorn coral, dozens of fish and is a great place to see green sea turtles on the Great Barrier Reef! Australia is famous for its amazing Great Barrier Reef and the bright coral and sealife that comes with it. Unfortunately much of our beautiful reef has been affected by the Great Barrier Reef bleaching and you can see some bleaching of the reef in this video. Although, thankfully the Keppel Islands have not been as detrimentally affected by the Great Barrier Reef bleaching as other parts of the Great Barrier Reef like up in the Whitsundays. There are still lots of Great Keppel Island snorkeling tours going out at all times of the day to see the reef, but there's nothing like snorkeling on your own schedule for hours on end! Our family sailing adventure continues with the Sailing Kids on day 7 of the summer holiday trip. Blake finds a kina, otherwise known as a sea urchin endemic in New Zealand and a traditional component of Maori diet. We then sail from Te Kouma to Man O’ War bay, while the adults enjoyed the Man O War winery restaurant the kids were playing on the sandy beach where the tide had exposed an old mooring anchor, in the so called aquarium, the kids play with a quick hermit crab and small fish. This was our last day of the summer break, it was a fantastic sailing trip where we had five sightings of dolphins and three sharks. Great to see the wildlife, next time we will get more of it on camera! Still learning to remember to pull out the GoPro Hero 8 and Mavic Mini Drone! We are two brothers, aged 4 and 7, who love going on sailing family adventures - exploring the outdoors and finding super cool wild animals, bugs and marine life. So along with our parents, we’re sailing the world, exploring islands, and looking for interesting wildlife. We start our adventure sailing New Zealand but dream of sailing around the Mediterranean some day. We love our planet and want to look after our environment, so through our travels we hope other kids will feel inspired to care for our planet and wildlife too.
