The road to the top is a long one. For the young Australian team of Jim Colley and Shaun Conner, 2019 was a break out year. After a self proclaimed disappointing European leg, they set in motion a training plan both on and off the water which translated to qualifying for the gold fleet at the 2019 Worlds including their first World Championship race win. Jim Colley is at the start of his 49er career and at the 2019 World Championship won his first ever race at at 49er Worlds and made his first ever gold fleet. Together with crew Shaun Connor they improved their performance from the European season by leaps and bounds. Jim describes the extensive mental work he put in to developing a self congratulation system that helped keep in the moment and focus on sailing the boat as well as he could at all times. It's this mental shift in his attitude that he attributes his improvements to. In this life, we consider 'bad' things to be learning experiences. Whether its a breakage or a tough passage, every challenging situation teaches us and in doing so makes us better sailors, happier cruisers and in many cases, stronger people. In this episode we departed from North Carolina, headed to the Bahamas, on January 15th with a forecast of 20 - 25 knots. What we got was 30 - 35 knots sustained with 40+ knot gusts. We learned several things on this passage with just one being not to trust the forecast when attempting a passage in the North Atlantic in January. If we ever find ourselves in the same situation again, we wouldn't take a 25 knot forecast on this route at this time of year. At least I (Grace) wouldn't. As we depart Von Donop Inlet, we are greeted by a pod of Humpback whales followed by a pod of Orcas. A magical moment to remember and one of my best days on the water in the Pacific Northwest! We explore Rebecca spit, eat a lovely meal at the Heriot Bay Inn while enjoying a game of human size chess and relax on the beach with a view more stunning than any camera could capture! The following day we head to Gorge harbour, pass the famous Shark Spit and dance our butts off to live music under a starry night we will never forget! While our videos don't capture all our adventures, we thoroughly enjoy disconnecting from the virtual world while sailing and trying to capture a few of the beautiful moments along the way to remember for years to come. Endlich wieder segeln. Und bei besten Bedingungen konnten wir mit unserem Parasailor auf einem ruhigen Vänernsee segeln. Die wunderschöne Landschaft Dalsland begrüßt uns in Sunannå bei Mellerud. Ein Hafen in einem Naturschutzgebiet mit vielen schönen Wanderwegen und einigen Geocaches. Weiter ging es ins pittoreske Spiken mit seinen hübschen kleine roten Häuser. Eine Wanderung bis zum Schloß Läcko durfte auch nicht fehlen. Viel Spaß beim Schauen und wenn es euch gefällt, gerne einen Daumen hoch und abonniert unseren Kanal. Estas imagens são muito raras porque actualmente - ao contrário do passado em que os próprios instrutores tiravam fotos que vendiam posteriormente aos instruendos - o registo fotográfico é completamente proibido ! Actualmente chama-se PROVA ZERO e chegou a ser conhecida durante a guerra do ultramar de PROVA DA SEDE. É criado um ambiente de guerra e os militares são submetidos durante 3 dias a uma extrema violência física e psíquica de forma a analisar as suas capacidades de resistência . From one day to the other we were stranded at sea, with no possibility to get into harbour or being allowed to anchor close to shore. We were sea-locked on our Sailboat Beneteau Oceanis 393 without any possibility to enter any country, as all had decided to lock down and close their boarders. Check out the video to see how we struggle against high waves and strong winds, how we had to call our PANPAN, how we got kicked out of Cyprus and how we are still out at sea trying to find our way home. Yess we are doing a GIVEAWAY!! Win a full week on board of Messenger for 2 persons. check the details in/under Vlog 25 We have no water to wash our clothes and take a shower. So we try to invent a system to distill water, so we have sweet water to do some cleaning work. Besides new fresh water we also preserve our sweet water to make it last for a longer time. On the 17th of April 2020 we left marina Port Ghalib in Egypt, heading south towards Sudan and Djibouti and finally Maldives. We will take it easy, enjoy the beautiful reefs of the red sea and keep an eye on the corona regulations of the ports we pass. Since many countries are closed we don't know where we will be allowed to go on land again, but we can survive 4 month without seeing anybody :) This journey is only a small part of our trip that started 2 years ago. We got the sailing- skills on our friends yacht 'Shalom' when we joined them on a trip from the Netherlands to Spain. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtDOpi7ydzdcRK1H7fEiQFQ . In Spain we decided to go with our own boat, and in no time we were the happy owners of 'Messenger'. We left may 2018 and started vlogging from the beginning, we made 15 minute video's of our adventures, the nature and the many special people we met. We cooperated with OM to visit their projects and film them on our way. Since 19 of March we started with a daily vlog due to the corona situation. We plan to keep doing this the coming months.
