Notre dernière traversée aux Canaries de l'île de Tenerife vers l'île de El Hierro avant notre départ pour le Cap-Vert. Une traversée mouvementée, notamment, dans la zone d'accélération entre Tenerife et La Gomera, avec des périodes de fortes rafales (32 noeuds) et une période de zéro vent sous l'île de La Gomera. C'est à ce moment qu'on a profité pour aller nager dans l'océan avec une profondeur en dessous de nous de 2000m ! Nous sommes arrivés au Puerto de La Estaca à El Hierro à 21h30. Toda vez que a gente dizia que queria comprar alguma coisa, falávamos em coro: "St. Martiiiiiin". Era uma expectativa que crescia à medida que o barco ia precisando de reparos e melhorias. Acumulamos também algumas manutenções, já que ficaríamos parados por pelo menos 20 dias por lá, faríamos tudo de uma vez. Os preços eram realmente surpreendentes, conseguimos encontrar tudo: tala, drogue, linha de vida, placa solar, dessalinizador, antena de wifi, controlador, gerador eólico... tudo! Mas a gente não imaginava que comprar era a parte fácil... ainda precisaríamos instalar e foi aí que o bicho pegou. Vou dar um exemplo: ao comprar nossas placas solares, precisamos comprar o controlador, os fios de instalação delas, o fio do controlador e mais uma fiação especial para medir a temperatura das baterias. Tudo isso com seus devidos conectores. Porém, para instalar o dessalinizador, precisamos desmontar a bateria de serviço, tirar tudo o que estava guardado no banco da sala (bebidas, enlatados, ferramentas), achar uma madeira para apoiar a bandeja da bateria, selar a madeira com tinta epoxi, esperar secar, fixar a madeira, a bandeja e só depois colocar a bateria no lugar e reconectá-la. E a bagunça? Não dava para ficar em casa. A solução era cair na balada... todo santo dia.

When you first decent for a dive at the very remote Island in the Banda Sea, Gili Serua, you'll be shocked at the amount of snakes in the water. These snakes can be very intimidating because of their curiosity and how close to the divers they come. Luckily though, they are not aggressive at all and will move along once they have inspected you. The Giant Sponges that can be found along the wall are incredible. Day 2 of our epic voyage from Gibraltar to Sicily (non-stop with no engine, only sail) takes a turn for the worse. The weather continues to build and our wind steering can’t keep our sailboat on course. The seas begin breaking into the cockpit and over the deck. This is basically what a perfect day in our life looks like! Living in a sailing catamaran can have its struggles but it all pays off when you live days like this one. Andrea fulfills one of her biggest dreams after she swims with wild dolphins in the Exumas for almost 30 minutes and we even encounter more dolphins the days after. After enjoying our last day by the pool in Orlando Florida, we drove to the west coast of Florida. We had a relaxing day on Siesta beach with its soft, white sand. The next day we drove further south to visit the Everglades National Park. We did an airboat tour and spotted some alligators. The more south we drove, the more we felt like we were in Paradise. We stayed one night in the wonderful, private Largo resort. A paradise on earth. Quiet and chill.

6 avril, après nous avoir poursuivie à 6,3 nœuds, la barcasse d’hier soir a fini par nous lâcher la grappe ! Au bout d’une heure, plus rien, panne sèche, enfin c’est ce que l’on suppose car son signal AIS n’émettait plus qu’une vitesse de zéro virgule six nœuds. Délestés de ce poids, nous pouvions qu’espérer une nuit paisible ! Mais qu’est ce qui a bien pu nous faire croire que l’obscurité réduirait notre peine ? Sûrement notre optimisme car hormis cette disposition, absolument rien alentours ne laissait présager de la miséricorde en notre égard. Et même si nous voulions volontairement faire les autruches, il nous aurait fallu trouver un autre animal pour nous rendre sourds afin de ne plus entendre les « bip…bip…bip…bip » incessants de nos alarmes ! Elles sont juste insupportables, et rendent notre dix-septième jour de confinement, maussades comme le temps. Pour contrer notre état morose, une seule chose, manger ! Vous n’imaginez pas à quel point manger en mer est réconfortant ! Comme dit si bien Brassens : « Ce n’était rien qu’un bout de pain mais il m’a réchauffé le corps ». Je ne vais pas vous cacher qu’en attendant les recettes de « Jacouille la fripouille », un ptit bout de fromage sur la bonne miche complète bien le petit encas ! Je ne vous présente pas ? Jacouille, vous connaissez ? Mais oui, vous connaissez, c’est moi, Jacouille ! Le petit surnom me vient bien évidement de mon petit mari, qui derrière sa Go Pro, m’a trouvé une étrange ressemblance avec Christian Clavier dans les visiteurs, quel comique celui-là alors ! Ça lui a même inspiré une rubrique pour ses épisodes des « confinés de l’Indien », et tenez-vous bien, avec jingle s’il vous plait ! « En mer avec Jacouille la fripouille… on n’mange pas qu’des nouilles… que des nouilles ! ». Ben oui, je lui ai fait pour la première fois hier, des nouilles chinoises instantanées, et les nouilles, il aime bien mon capitaine mais il préfère quand même, quand je lui prépare des petites recettes gourmandes et variées. Et comme vous le savez, j’aime cuisiner, et même quand le bateau bouge incommodément, je mitonne pour nourrir mon homme ! Crêpes, flans, tartare, fondant au chocolat, toutes mes recettes y passent et ma cuisine le temps d’une prise se transforme en studio culinaire. 118 milles avec 15 nœuds de vent sous foc et deux ris dans la grand-voile. Ben les copains, on est pas rendu, d’un autre côté ça tombe bien, nous ne savons toujours pas où nous allons ou alors très vaguement et pour l’heure, nous nous situons à 6º1'897 S, 59º58'340 E. Le temps est toujours hyper lourd et avec ma cocotte qui sifflote dans le carré, nous sommes imprégnés d’une sueur poisseuse détestable. Une houle hachée enfle, roule, monte, secoue la crinière de notre lion, retombe et s’écrase pour mieux nous affaiblir. Elle recommence et recommence encore mais une lueur d’espoir pointe à l’ouest, le soleil perce, le souffle s’apaise, plus rien ne bouge… Black Lion poursuit au moteur…

The 1997-98 Whitbread Round the World Race was won by Paul Cayard and his EF Language team, who won three of the first five legs, en route to a convincing victory.🥇 His team was composed of many sailors from his 1999-2000 America's Cup campaign, and they brought an as yet unseen intensity to their approach on the water. 💪 They were pushed hard on the water by Grant Dalton's Merit Cup, also composed of a who's who of professional sailors who would go on to have long and distinguished careers in the sport. For the first time all boats were built to the Whitbread 60 rule. The figure 8 knot is one of if not the most used sailing stoppers knots. It is easy to tie, provides a decent sized stopper and is relatively easier to untie after load has been applied. When tying the figure eight knot it is important pull it really tight, with stiff modern ropes the knot can have a tendency to untie itself if it is only loosely tightened.
