The latest short film about a small group of Roe deer and a rogue Fallow deer that live in my local woodland and meadows near where I live in Cornwall. Wildlife photography and filmmaking has taught me many things. The two most important aspects are, PATIENCE and OBSERVATION without these spending time in woodland, forest or meadow would not be as rewarding. People are too busy in their lives, and they don't even realise that these magnificent beasts live alongside us. In the meadow, laid down just the other side of a hedgerow, tucked in behind the prickly Gorze that smells of coconut reminding us summer is on the way very soon. Following animal pathways through the forest and fields, using fieldcraft to identify animal tracks and droppings will tell you so much about what mammals live or frequent your local woods. This was the lead up to the night where we nearly lost Nandji on the reef... https://www.sailingnandji.com/ This video was filmed early Febuary before the global pandemic really took off. Thailand was one of the first countries affected and we took the adequate precautions early to protect ourselves. In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we have nearly completed the list of jobs we hoped to complete to have Nandji ready for the Indian Ocean. We take our storm sail into the sail maker to get cut smaller as the last thing we want if caught in a gale is to have too much sail up! With Nandji feeling good, we depart Thailand and sail to Langkawi. This is the first sail we complete after weeks of boat work on Nandji. If everything goes smoothly, we would be departing for Sri Lanka with in the week and beginning our voyage across the Indian Ocean. What happens next was not what we had planned at all. This is the day before the disaster. After a great sail for the day we arrive into Koh Rok islands where we pick up a mooring to rest for the night. The glassy smooth water, the sun setting and surrounded by beautiful lush tropical jungle on these small island paradise, it felt like a dream. We had worked so hard to get to this point and the year looked very exciting at this time. If only we knew what was about to happen... With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! The adventure is just beginning as we plan to sail our Nandji girl around the world!! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! In this episode - We break stuff, Fix stuff, and Swing from some stuff! - We do some journaling, and we answer your questions! - After a quick recap of the situation here in Grenada, we pick up our story in day 3 of lockdown on our boat with nowhere to go but 42 feet. We decided that it would be a good use of time to tackle some of those boat chores that we’ve been putting off for months, one ongoing one is the engine rust. Khiara pulled out the lift pump for the engine in an attempt to de-rust it but after an hour of scrubbing only managed to break the thing! The next day, Adam took a pass at it and found the greatest fix of all... a spare hiding in the cupboard! With the engine back together and able to make water again, Adam decided to do a little spring cleaning, throwing away old and obsolete appliances that are sitting in the engine bay. We call it a successful day and head to our new big brother diary room! 2 days later, the government of Grenada decided to allow one day of essential food shopping a week. As Sean and I head to shore for supplies, we see that the rest of the island seems to have the same idea and hundreds of people are queuing at the same time! I had bought topside paint online and the color name was "North Sea" the paint ended up looking like blue painters tape so the color was NOT what we were after. I was also unaware that you need to thin the paint up to 10 percent so our Test section, the stern, came out TERRIBLE. Super thick and drippy. After Several successes and failures we finally got a nice coat of " Interlux - Dark Blue " that we were happy with. And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. 7 avril, Cyril vient d’arrêter le moteur. Au total notre propulseur aquatique nous a permis d’avancer 14 heures dans la calmasse et ce matin, c’est une renaissance ! Le gennak est envoyé, le vent s’engouffre, les vrombissements de notre diesel stoppent, le ciel s’est dégagé, l’océan respire posément. La cohérence de ce tout nous re-boostes au max et nous donne une énergie rayonnante ! La grosse averse de cette nuit a dessalée tout le pont, remplie tous les réservoirs et nous avons envie que d’une chose, rincer et lessiver le carré extérieur pour retrouver notre cocon douillet et reposant. Tout y est devenu collants, imprégnés de saumure, les draps sont désagréablement mouillés, mais qui a dit… « C’est la plaisance, c’est le pied ! » … On se croirait dans un chenil de chiens trempés ! Encore heureux que nous n’ayons pas les toutous, déjà qu’avec la pilosité de mon capitaine et ma tignasse, nous avons des poils et des cheveux de partout, qu’est-ce que ça serait ? Ces filets déliés sont une calamité à bord, pour bien faire, faudrait carrément se raser le crâne et se dépoiler en totalité pour être dispensés d’une invasion intégrale de notre habitacle, mais n’étant pas personnellement prête à une chauve attitude, je vais m’en tenir à absorber le tout avec mon super aspirateur ! Les cotonnades sont savonnées, les planchers astiqués, les plafonds détergés et les vitres dessalées… ah non pas les vitres, à chaque fois que je fais les carreaux, il pleut ! Suffit la pluie ! Mmmm, tout hume bon le propre ! Quel bonheur de se retrouver au sec, même l’humidité de l’air a disparue, par contre ce qui réparaient, ce sont les cargos. Nous venons d’en croiser deux, serions-nous sur une de leurs routes aux 7º30'940 S, 59º21'053 E ? Voilà ce qui nous indique notre nombre de milles parcourus, pile 100 en vingt-quatre heures, ce n’est pas folichon, tout comme notre avitaillement de frais qui commence au bout de dix-huit jours à flétrir ! Bon, je sais ma transition est un peu merdique mais que voulez-vous, aujourd’hui je peine un peu à composer ma dissertation. Je disais donc, nous commençons à arriver au bout de notre panier fraîcheur, qui comme vous pouvez vous en douter, n’est plus très fais ! Il nous reste quelques tomates, un quart de chou, deux oignons, des patates et cinq citrons. Important les citrons (surtout dans le rhum, hein Tchoupi ?) ! C’est des vitamines quand même, il ne faudrait pas après avoir échappés au Covid 19, être attaqués par le scorbut ! Mais ne vous inquiétez pas, hormis notre potager, le congélateur est toujours plein et nous continuons, obstinés et motivés à tirer du matin au soir nos lignes censées nous procurer les nutriments nécessaires à la survie ! Et puis, nous sommes des dures à cuire, avec notre enrobage grassouillet nous devrions pouvoir tenir encore quelques semaines ! Et oui les copains, là va falloir estimer notre confinement et il semble bien partit pour plus d’une semaine supplémentaire ! Ayant abandonnés l’option Seychelles à moins de 300 milles, il reste Mada à plus de 600 et Maurice à plus de 700 ! Du coup, un petit point s’impose, partis par malaise du Sri Lanka, optimistes, nous pensions trouver refuge aux Seychelles, le vent nous portant gentiment près d’un des derniers atolls des Maldives, nous nous étions faits à l’idée de stopper près d’une île déserte et poursuivre en toute logique notre route vers les Chagos… Tintin ! Quand ce n’est pas un virus qui nous repousse, c’est un cyclone. Et maintenant, après le courant qui nous a fait dériver, les grains qui nous ont malmenés, c’est la pétole qui s’y met ! Alors surtout si vous préparez une traversée de l’Indien par voie la plus direct, ne cher-chez pas à prendre exemple, nous ne détenons pas les points d’orthodromie de cet océan !

Nina war leider gesundheitlich etwas angeschlagen, so dass ich kurzerhand meinen Freund Jan gefragt habe, ob er mir Ostern beim Streichen des Unterwasserschiffs mit Antifouling zur Hand gehen könnte. Jan lies sich nicht lumpen und neben den Malerarbeiten am Unterwasserschiff haben wir auch noch die alten Dichtungen am Süllrand im Cockpit gezogen - die hässlichen Rostnasen sind ein ständiger Hinweis, dass auch hier mal restauriert werden muss! Nach dem Abkleben des Wasserpass mit Frogtape haben wir uns also zunächst den Dichtungen gewidmet - ein Quell ewiger Freude und natürlich auch ein ordentlicher Quell Gammelwasser inklusive... Danach ging es dann an das Antifouling, das sich erfreulich gut und vor allem schnell aufs Unterwasserschiff rollen lies. Zum Abschluss war das Highlight dann das Frogtape wieder abzuziehen.
