Our wind instruments stop working and we are forced to sail up the 'wrong' side of Majuro due to strong winds... Sailing around the world on our sailboat "Brick House", sailing around Cape Aghullas and the Cape of Good Hope, of South Africa, was certainly the sailing passage that Rebecca had feared the most during our circumnavigation. Very bad weather conditions and unpredictable weather make sailing around the 2 Capes of South Africa, very intimidating for even experienced sailors. We sailed through every kind of weather from East London to Hout Bay, just short of Cape Town, but luckily using Predictwind Offshore on our Raymarine Axiom Pro and the Iridium GO, we MOSTLY knew when stormy weather at sea was approaching, from wind and squalls, to waves and currents. We sailed in the worst electrical lightning storm we have ever been in...and we had some very nice fair weather sailing too. Predictwind on the chartplotter with the Iridium GO really makes getting weather forecasts at sea so much easier now. Radar also helped with seeing bad weather and squalls approaching. Patrick didn’t mention it, but the CAPE forecast on PredictWind even warned of high squall activity for one night sailing around the Cape of Good Hope. Being able to get weather at sea every 12 hours, certainly is the reason we felt comfortable sailing this entire coast in one go, rather than making many stops To seek shelter from the wind and waves. Being able to get weather reports at sea with Predictwind Offshore on the Raymarine chartploter certainly made all the difference!!! Patrick gives a few sailing tips while Sailing the coast of Africa, in good weather, and in bad weather, upwind and downwind. May 2018. After being off work for 10 months we have completely run out of money so it’s time for me to go back to work. We get a lot of questions about how we find our adventure so I thought it was time to answer a few questions. This whole adventure is funded by my job as a saturation diver in the oil and gas industry. I’ve been a professional diver for 23 years, spent over 4 years of my life underwater and worked all over the World. This job was in the Mediterranean Sea at a depth of 208m. Unfortunately the sea bed was very muddy and visibility was near zero most of the time so underwater footage wasn’t possible. In a nut shell, we spend 28 days under pressure in a chamber and transfer down to the seabed in a bell each day to work for 6 hours in the water putting pipelines together. After 18 days of diving, we decompress from 200m to the surface very slowly to avoid “the bends” (gas bubbles in your body). Decompression from 200m takes just under 10 days. You would almost start to like being in lockdown. After our very blue lockdown in the North Sound of the BVI we sailed for 2 weeks just to end up in another lockdown on the Azores. As in the BVI we are not allowed to leave the boat at all, but still there's enough to see and Duarte and Filipe from Peter Cafe Sport are really taking very good care of all the sailors halfway their crossing back to Europe. Still it's a pity that we're not allowed to explore the islands, they are looking very promising. Maybe next time …..

Grâce à beaucoup de volonté et de détermination, c'est avec Cyril mon mari et Jonathan notre fils, que nous avons fait nos débuts à la voile dans le lagon calédonien sur Pirates. com, notre premier bateau. Nous n'aurions jamais imaginé notre changement de vie aussi rapide. Envoûtés par cette grande bleue, l'idée de prendre le large est vite devenu notre objectif. En 4 ans, nous avons mis tout en place pour larguer les amarres, un apprentissage journalier sans relâche, la vie à bord, les navigations, les sorties et entrées au port, de nouvelles responsabilités bien différentes de notre ex-vie de terriens. Après plusieurs mois d'initiation à la navigation dans un cadre paradisiaque vers les îlots aux alentours de Nouméa, les cinq Îles, l’Île des pins et les îles loyautés nous sommes partis à la découverte de ce monde merveilleux .... « Ce n'était pas le rêve d'un jour mais celui de toujours. Sans prétention aucune, j'étais persuadé qu'un jour j'aurais un bateau et partirais pour un grand voyage. Partis de rien, nous avons réussi moi, ma femme et mon fils. » Le capitaine.

This week's episode brings us back to 2019 when we arrived at one of the most isolated islands in the world and spent time living with the people there. They are so far off the grid they live without any stores, restaurants or hospitals and without what many of us believe is now a fundamental right, access to the internet. It's hard to believe, but these people are so isolated most of them do not know what youtube, facebook or even what google is. The northern south pacific between Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands is one of the most remote regions in the entire world. Most of the people living on these remote islands spend their entire lives here and never leave the island they were born on.
