Julien Moutarde (European Champion youth Nacra15): " honestly I expected a boat that is kind of "smooth" - but then I realized that this is a very high performance boat, as well. Very stable on the rudder and it's going really fast. The foils are well made. And the boat is accessible - not complicated to handle. But You can push hard and accelerate with ease beyond 20kts." ... and this new weird sail, the "CodeF"? " the new "CodeF" - I was a bit skeptical about this innovation at the beginning. But it proofed to be very performant at the end. It is very flat - not much drag - but it adds a significant amount of sail area and it speeds up the boat a lot. It is brilliant - and very fast "The boat is safe and sails very stable. But it accelerates a lot, when You want to. And when You want it to be safe, it is stable and safe. So it was a very pleasant experience to sail this boat." more Info: http://iflysail.com

It has been many months, but I get back up to the aft of Mistress to make a start with the Cabin 2 & 3 furniture build work, YAY! I take the time to EXPLAIN some of the engineering features back aft and also the fit-out plan ahead,... I also get the main bulkhead separating the cabins and the lazarette storage area and the cabin 2 single berth base made up! There were many reasons why, but the work stopped,... However, the work has re-started, thankfully, and I am on an exciting journey to finish Mistress and then go on my sailing adventures,... With our Quarantine swiftly nearing its end we get stuck into getting the boat sea-worthy. Jobs include climbing the mast to check the rigging, oiling the woodwork, checking and repairing the sails, rebedding the front hatch and more. The day arrived when we were allowed to go into town and visit the market and shops in order to supply the boat for our planned month away from civilisation. Help the people of Saint Martin / Sint Maarten! https://www.gofundme.com/f/1z7dlxuadc Saint Martin certainly is a lovely island, but we unfortunately never got to see any of it… We arrived in the Simpson Bay Lagoon early March to catch a flight to Stockholm, and while we were away, the coronavirus pandemic unraveled in a way that no one could predict. Although we managed to get back to the boat right before everything shut down, we got stuck in the lagoon, where we’ve spent the last 2 months onboard. In this video, I take you along on a day in lockdown, in “paradise”. I wasn’t sure how to make this video. But Ryan and I spent two months hearing how we were “lucky” to be where we are, and I wanted to offer a little more “nuanced” perspective on the situation of boaters in the Caribbean. How do you shop for 3 months of OFF THE GRID living on a sailboat? In this episode we find ourselves in the port of San Juan, Puerto Rico preparing to set sail to some very remote islands. Knowing it will be months before we can get supplies again we decide to do a huge provisioning run and fill Delos with enough food for 2 adults + 1 baby for 90 days which is 540 servings plus snacks, drinks, and other necessities like toilet paper! The food in itself is a crazy mission, and if you add in other necessities to keep Delos ship shape like fuel, oil, filters, and other boat projects we have in progress it can get out of control in a hurry. Hope you enjoy the video, and sending you lot's of love from us currently enjoying our 85th day out here in isolation! Capt. Vlog#2 This had to be the most nervous we were on the whole trip. We left Canada and as per our internet research, we didnt have proper papers to cross borders. We tried to get Decorum registered but the Canadian Government was so backlogged it was obviously not going to happen, so we just decided to winggggg it, and try to get in with just the boat license we had. We arrived at Roche Harbour and everything went fine, the officers were really nice and it was a wayyyy easier process than we thought it was going to be! We did a bunch of worrying for no reason! --------------------------------- Instagram- @Sailingdecorum --------------------------------- --------------------------------- *WHO ARE WE?* •We are a Canadian couple, Travis and Jessica. Vlog#3 We got an early start as we had a long sail ahead of us, head up the Straight of Juan da Fuca. It was dead calm so we motored along and got some boat jobs done. Once we got to the mouth of the straight we got some pretty good headwind and managed to get into the anchorage at Neah Bay before dark. We checked out the museum which was amazing, but unfortunately not cameras allowed, you'll have to see it for yourself. We headed out really early in the fog into the Pacific Ocean for our very first time. Once the fog lifted it was calm and we motored up to La Push. Once we started getting close to shore the waves got massive and we couldn't see the entrance so we decided to call the coast guard and get them to lead us in. This was our first bar crossing and everytime we tried to research crossing over one it was extremely dangerous and there wasn't a lot of information. --------------------------------- Instagram- @Sailingdecorum --------------------------------- --------------------------------- *WHO ARE WE?* •We are a Canadian couple, Travis and Jessica. On passage from Bahamas to Jamaica, flying the Parasailor and passing the notorious windward passage at the eastern end of Cuba. After several days in George Town, Bahamas, we found a narrow weather wind to start our 700nm passage to the Cayman Islands, via the Windward Passage to the east of Cuba. A northerly cold front was approaching which would stop the easterly trade winds and give us a solid following wind to go south. The first short leg, heading NE to round the tip of Long Island, was very tranquil. A good time to remind ourselves how to fly the Parasailor spinnaker. As we entered the Atlantic and turned SE down the eastern side of Long Island, the wind increased and we sailed into the first night at sea, reaching the southern end of Long island by midnight. Next morning, we again had the Parasailor up, this time in a 15kt wind on a magical 2-sail broad reach. But late afternoon, the dark clouds representing the cold front approached us fast from behind. We dropped the spinnaker just in time for the first of several 25-30kts squalls which powered us to the Windward Passage by midnight. Once in the lee of Cuba, we gybed and headed along the south coast in gradually reducing winds. By the following midday we were motor-sailing in very hot and airless conditions, when we made a sudden decision to divert 80nm south, to Jamaica, with the plan to cruise its north coast prior to continuing to Cayman. The subsequent direction change allowed us to sail again and we had another thrilling ride to the Jamaican lee shore, arriving rather dramatically into Port Antonio in the early hours of the following day. 21-24 Feb 2020

Climbing Namibia's Magnificent Dunes | Namibia Travel Documentary ep.1 Watch us Travel Namibia and climb it's most magnificent sand dunes in the Sossusvlei. This is episode one of our 10 day epic road trip all around Namibia. Enjoy our Namibia Travel Documentary! Not long ago, we travelled to Namibia and rented a rooftop tent 4x4 to drive thousands of kilometers through Namibia's unspoilt and rough terrain. Now we finally bring out this epic adventure on video, so you can follow our every step! First we land in the capital Windhoek, pick up our rooftop tent 4x4 truck and drive to our campsite for the first night, where Yosha's chills in her hammock. The next morning Jolynn arranged for a birdwatching tour, joining some of the birding experts in the area, and we find some magnificent birds and records those on camera. We then set off on the roads, and quickly afterwards find ourselves surrounded by vast emptiness, rugged terrain and beautiful landscapes for the next 10 days. We pass by the town of Rehoboth, and while enroute to the Spreetshoogte pass with it's awesome viewpoints, we manage to take some epic drone shots of our vehicle surrounded by, well nothing really.. just the awesome desert / savanah landscapes of Namibia. From Spreetshoogte pass, the landscape becomes even drier as we reach Solitaite for a lovely lunch and then Weltevrede Guest Farm where we enjoy a gorgeous refreshing swim and then pitch up our rooftop tent for the night. We then continue on to Sesriem which forms the entry to the Sossusvlei, where we find dune after dune. One more impressive than the other. We take frequent stops to take everything in. At the Deadvlei I go out alone for a spectacular walk in hot glowing sand, and film what I think are the most impressive images of this Namibia episode. We then return to Dune 45 with the family which we climb for an awesome sunset moment.
Many cruisers will tell you that cruising is "fixing your boat in exotic locations" - we concur. In this episode we battle an ongoing problem with our starboard engine as we make our way to the Greek Island of Ios.
Last weekend I raced my 40-footer Soulmates doublehanded in 18-26 knots of wind in the first race of 2020 season on New York’s Long Island Sound. With all established races cancelled for several months, I worked with local sailors to create an informal racing series that greatly reduces the risk of catching the corona virus. These races are not run by any yacht club or sailing association. There is no entry fee, no committee boat, no trophies and no party. The idea is to have a chance to get out on the water and have some competitive fun in a virus-safe environment. Eight boats participated and 24 boats would have raced if the weather didn’t force us to sail on Mother’s Day, which was a day later than originally scheduled. Doublehanded racing big boats is as safe as it gets in the time of the Covid crisis -- no one sits shoulder to shoulder and we wore masks most of the time. A pursuit format was used for two main reasons. First, there is less need for a committee boat since the order of finish is the results, and second, only one or two boats are on the starting line at the same time – which is helpful for shorthanded teams sailing boats not optimized for doublehanded racing. This video filmed on SOULMATES captures some of the tension and thrills of this windy race that was a perfect leeward/windward with good shifts to play on both legs. Even though we were 25 seconds late to our start and our one spinnaker jibe wasn’t stellar, we roared down the run for nearly 10 miles. We alternated between big grins and tense “oh no’s!” as the boat surged past 14 knots at one point. In the video you can see we sailed steadily above 10 knots. The sail plan on SOULMATES is massive and we usually race with 10-11 crew to wind on and release the running backstays that hold the four-spreader rig up and to handle the 178 sq/m asymmetric spinnaker, which has a luff length of 70 feet. When it came time for our final jibe to the turning mark, we chose to douse the spinnaker first. We started our letterbox take-down 1.5 miles from the mark. With the chute down and stuffed below, we did a chicken jibe (270-degree tack) to give more time to get the running backstays set, then we raised the No. 4 jib to jib-reach to the turning mark. The maneuvers were slow, controlled and safe. Figuring how to sail safe was a must for everyone. In the pursuit format, the slowest boat in the fleet starts first and all the other boats start later based on how much time they owed the slowest boat for the course. The last boat to start is the fastest. If all works as the PHRF committee planned, everyone should finish at the same time. In this race the rating committee earned their stripes. The finishes of the top four boats were extremely close. SOULMATES, the last boat to start finished first -- 20 seconds ahead the two boats that tied for second, the J/88 ONE TOO MANY and the New York 36 TURNING POINT. The Frers 33 SOUTHERN CROSS finished fourth, two minutes behind the tied boats. In lieu of an entry fee, all sailors were encouraged to donate to the Larchmont/Mamaroneck Food Pantry. $1700 was donated, which made the weekend doubly rewarding. Since everyone enjoyed the concept, we will race again on Saturdays until more organized racing starts up again.

Seja bem vindo a bordo! Bons Ventos!
