December 2019. All courtesy flags, from all countries I have visited, ties together so as to be hoisted in the mast when we enter Rodney Bay, on St Lucia. Tack till Sophie Söderling som filmade.
6 december 2019. 6 of december 2019. After some initial trouble getting a berth, we can finally moor, and I can hug my family.
In part thirteen of this series I make the daggerboard for my wooden Snipe class sailboat. I make it from 3/8" (9.9mm) 6061-T6 aluminum plate. I shape it using saws, files, an electric planer, grinder and flap disk, and sander. I show how to wet sand the aluminum up to a 2000 grit finish and buff or polish it to a near mirror finish. Then I laminate a handle from black walnut and attach it to the aluminum dagger board using aluminum and brass pins. These pins are epoxied in place and make a nice inlay in the wooden handle. Finally I show how to cut holes in the buoyancy compartment bulkheads to install watertight inspection ports or hatches. Ogni tanto "evaporo".

Join Peter and Tom sailing California, Mexico and the Sea of Cortez! In this episode we explore the wonderful Isla San Jose and experience our first 'noseeums' (biting insects) and get a taster of the extreme summer heat we in for later in the season. Something to look forward to as we sail north!! If you like our videos and want to support Bohemia's bar tab, you can make a contribution at http://www.patreon.com/sailingbohemia. Peter and Tom are gay sailors who learned to sail relatively recently in the San Francisco Bay, before casting off the lines to cruise Mexico and sail around the world! Thank you!
We had a fantastic sail from Tobago Cays to Union Island with a quick stop in Bequia and then on to St Vincent & St Lucia. The first place we went to in Union Island was Clifton. There is a really good kite surfing school there and a couple of nice shops and restaurants. We enjoyed buying fruit from the stalls and getting a quick WiFi fix in the restaurant Bougainvillea which is worth a visit. We did find that one night here to provision was enough. A short sail to the west side of the Island and we arrived in Chatham Bay. Throughout the islands we had sailed through in the Caribbean, this was the first one where we didn't feel harassed by boat boys. Although we were approached by one, he kept his distance until we were safely anchored and gave us some to to get organised. Usually this is not the case. When we were ready, he came up to the boat and offered to help with anything we may need and that we could find him in the beach restaurant when needed and would we like to come for a sundowner in the evening. His approach was so different to what we experienced in the past and we enjoyed a sundowner along with 2 other boats. Our next stop was Salt Whistle Bay on Mayreau Island. This was a a nice stop over for the night but a very busy anchorage. It is worth spending a night or two at anchor here if you are passing. From there we sailed up to Bequia and then onto St Vincent. We planned to spend the night in Wallilabou Bay where part of the Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed. We took a close look under motor and decided to carry on the the next bay called Chateubelair where we dropped anchor in quite a scenic location. A fisherman called John came past for a chat on his windsurfer board which he uses to get around the bay. We gave him a fishing reel and some additional fishing line, clothes and some food. A really pleasant person to meet. We also had a number of local children who wanted a coke or some biscuits. It didn't take long before our biscuit stock was totally obliterated. As Nathan had grown out of some of his clothes, it was nice to be able to pass these onto the children here. Despite the above, we didn't feel safe here which was the first time in the Caribbean that we had had this feeling. This was following a visit ashore and speaking to some of the locals. We cleared out of Customs and Immigration as soon as we could and opted to leave the anchorage in the early evening rather than spending another night there. It was a nice sail to St Lucia where we picked up a mooring Buoy in La Soufriere. Here, a boat boy helped by passing our bow line through the mooring buoy which was a 2 minute job and wanted $35 US for helping us. I paid him $5US and he left in a huff as we also declined doing a shore tour with him. It was a relief when Albertini, a boat boy we met on our previous visit, arrived. He is well organised and very professional and arranged a brilliant island tour. The highlight being going to the worlds only active drive-through volcano. You literally drive along a road through sulphur pools steaming and bubbling furiously. Well worth a visit. As it was my mom and dad's Golden Wedding Anniversary, they wanted to go out to a nice restaurant and dad had found one in Marigot Bay which is a bit further north. Off we went and had a good sail and arrived in Marigot Bay where we picked up one of the last mooring buoy's. If you are on a mooring buoy you also get use of the hotel facilities such as the pool, restaurants and WiFi. My mom and dad really treated us to a few incredible days here. The dinner in the restaurant was excellent and I couldn't help but think we should be treating them not them treating us. Thank you so much mom and dad. We had an incredible time here and we were sorry to see you go. My parents flew back home and we made our way to Rodney Bay to get fuel and prepare the boat for our sail to Martinique. Yess we are doing a GIVEAWAY!! Win a full week on board of Messenger for 2 persons. check the details in/under Vlog 25 Today's vlog: A Laid back day of Sailing on the Red Sea! The forecast is different then we see happening, but we decide to leave anyway. The result is a funny, slow and relaxed day of sailing. On the 17th of April 2020 we left marina Port Ghalib in Egypt, heading south towards Sudan and Djibouti and finally Maldives. We will take it easy, enjoy the beautiful reefs of the red sea and keep an eye on the corona regulations of the ports we pass. Since many countries are closed we don't know where we will be allowed to go on land again, but we can survive 4 month without seeing anybody :) This journey is only a small part of our trip that started 2 years ago. We got the sailing- skills on our friends yacht 'Shalom' when we joined them on a trip from the Netherlands to Spain. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtDOpi7ydzdcRK1H7fEiQFQ . In Spain we decided to go with our own boat, and in no time we were the happy owners of 'Messenger'. We left may 2018 and started vlogging from the beginning, we made 15 minute video's of our adventures, the nature and the many special people we met. We cooperated with OM to visit their projects and film them on our way. Since 19 of March we started with a daily vlog due to the corona situation. We plan to keep doing this the coming months. The Swift Trawler 30 represents BENETEAU's continuing quest to define the trawler as it should be. Newest member of the ‘long-distance cruiser’ family, the Swift Trawler 30 is an excellent balance between style and seaworthiness. EXTERIOR DESIGN Unreserved and stylish, the Swift Trawler 30’s contemporary, yet taut lines distinguish her from the rest. Designed for travelling long distances as much as for enjoying anchorages and stopovers, her open layout is wonderful for any voyage. Incredibly ingenious, the rear cockpit converts into a spacious terrace over the sea, while the flybridge, with a small lounge and steering station, creates a completely separate living space. INTERIOR DESIGN Built with multiple modular fittings, the Swift Trawler 30 provides ample space and light to create a comfortable lifestyle onboard. Gunboat Managing Partner, Benoit Lebizay, talks about the company, the new factory, and the Gunboat 68. Interview on March 5, 2020 at the Gunboat Factory in La Grande-Motte France. The interview took place before the COVID crisis resulted in a country-wide lockdown in France. Since then our first priority has been maintaining a safe working environment for the Gunboat team, which meant scaling down for several weeks. Fortunately, small teams working in shifts maintained some progress on production, and two months later we are pleased to report operating near full capacity again. We remain humble because we know that the battle is not over yet. As of mid-May, Gunboat 6803 is on track to splash this summer and 6804 in early 2021. Designing, building, and sailing these incredible boats is our passion and we are very happy to be able to continue to do so, sharing it with our followers, possibly providing rays of sunshine in these challenging times. Ready to talk about ownership? Contact Benoit and the Gunboat team at sales@gunboat.com
In this tech episode we show a little of how we winterised Aurora last year. This included taking the batons out of the sails, taking the sails down, preparations inside, cleaning the sails and finally drying them. Hope you can take something away from it. All the best, Chris and Tanja
Very unfortunate event to happen but luckly me and my cousin were out riding when we saw this bloke on a yamaha stranded. My cousin had rope and was kind enough to tow him back in.

We've missed it so much here at Dazcat during lockdown we just had to get a bit damp and dirty to this absolutely awesome track from John Fairhurst - supporting our local music venue Patchwork Studios to stay open. If you enjoy the track, and the video, help us to support their crowdfunder here: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/keep-patchwork-alive The local music scene has been a huge part of our lives here at the Multihull Centre yard. We miss the live music events with the incredibly talented musicians that kept the studio going and pulled the community together. The local children are also missing the time the musicians gave them, learning the art so they too could pass it on to future generations. In the CV-19 crisis Patchwork are quickly pulling some innovations together so they can keep supporting the community, they just need a bit of help. They're very nearly at the £10,000 target and the crowdfunder finishes the evening of May 15th. You can still support them after that. find out how by visiting their website: https://www.makerheights.org.uk/1224-2/
From our family to yours. In our bubble we have loved the time together, cooking, playing even gardening. But we have always had our other 'baby' on our minds as we navigate this challenging time. We miss being out on the water, getting under the water to explore another world, swapping stories and of course the marshmallows over the fire. Most of all we miss the people. Our amazing guests who normally come to explore our backyard from all over the world. It's not our natural instinct to ask for help but in this changing time for travellers and those of us who help travellers have new experiences, meet new people and explore new places we would love to ask for your help. We are not sure yet when our borders will be open, or when we can all move freely again even in our own countries. What we do know is that we will travel again, cruise again, explore again and share again - our place, our islands, our lives and our experiences with all of you. So we are asking for your help. If you or someone you love or even just happen to know are planning on spending any time in the Bay of Islands in the coming months or even years we have put together a series of gift vouchers. They are open dated to the end of 2023, you can change dates as often as you like and you can even purchase just part of a cruise. https://www.rocktheboat.co.nz/the-rock-gift-vouchers We would love it if you would treat yourself, treat your family, treat your team or treat your friends to an experience that will last a lifetime. It would mean the world to us so we can have The Rock continue to be a unique looking icon here in the Bay of Islands for another 20 years. She has delivered memories that some of you have talked about as you explore the Mayan Ruins in Mexico and for others the memories were so fond you returned with your family a decade after you explored as backpackers. We've had engagements, reunions, birthdays and weddings before COVID-19 and we know with your support we will have many more aboard in the future. And of course if the Bay of Islands isn't on your horizon then we would love if you could share this far and wide for us with your networks. Much Love from the Greener Bubble Scarlett, Jonny and Sarah.
