Nachdem uns Wind und Wellen abermals gezwungen hatten, in die Jade abzulaufen, ging es erneut in den Nassau-Hafen in Wilhelmshaven. Dort waren wir schon einige Tage zuvor gewesen und daher lag es nahe, den Nassau-Hafen als Schutzhafen anzulaufen. Da der Westwind die nächsten Tage noch zunehmen sollte, war an Segeln auf der Nordsee erstmal nicht zu denken - schon gar nicht auf die Ostfriesischen Inseln! Zudem mussten wir unsere Vorräte auffüllen, vor allem Diesel wollte gebunkert werden. Das sollte sich aber als gar nicht so einfach herausstellen... Das schlechte Wetter und die Zwangspause haben wir dann genutzt, um diverse kleine Baustellen am Schiff anzugehen, die entweder bei der Saisonvorbereitung nicht mehr geschafft worden waren - oder die im Laufe des Törns aufgekommen sind. So wurde ein Algenproblem im Wassertank angegangen, die Bilge trocken gelegt und endlich ein Panel mit USB-Ladeanschlüssen installiert. Restoring some of the damaged & worn out wood panels on my Catalina 25 with epoxy, varnish & clear coat. Also applied new veneer on a few pieces. I also read (or watched you tube) that varnish & acetone don't play nice together. Make sure you use alcohol instead to clean when working with varnish.

Fazia um tempo que eu queria fazer um vídeo só com música. Eu também tenho ficado com um pouquinho de preguiça dessa coisa de retrospectiva de 1 ano, 50 episódios, 100 episódios... Mas convenhamos que 100 episódios é algo que não poderia passar em branco. Afinal, um canal é bem com a vida: tem hora que a gente está a fim, animado, empolgado e tem hora que a gente não está. Tem hora que dá vontade de desistir, postar depois... enfim. Mas o exercício de olhar pra trás é gratificante. Apesar do trabalho, fazer uma linha do nosso caminho pelo globo faz a nossa "andança" parecer mais concreta e um feito notável - maior do que realmente é, na verdade. A gente só subiu, nada demais. Sempre tendemos a achar que as maiores dificuldades estão à frente, mas pensar no trecho Angra - Rio... foi um dos piores! Nem tudo são flores (ou golfinhos?) na vida do mar. Temos muitos desafios, sofremos com manutenções, balanços, navios, possibilidades de piratas e qualquer chuva que moradores da terra pouco se importariam. Mas a verdade é que o lado bonito, o lado poético da vida do mar é muito mais azul e encantador. Muito provavelmente potencializado pelo fato de que nós temos muito mais tempo para observar os pequenos detalhes da vida.

#38 Pendant une magnifique journée, isolés près d'une île déserte, on est partie à la pêche en apnée avec nos amis du voilier Atypic. Le spot de plongé regorgeait de vie sous-marine et on y a fait notre meilleure pêche au Spear Pole à vie! Puisque ça fait déjà 1 mois qu'on vit en retrait de la civilisation, on lève les voiles vers Staniel Cay, le petit village le plus proche. On est vide en eau potable, en gaz et en nourriture fraîche. C'est l'heure du grand remplissage! We finalize our visit to Tangier, Morocco and squeeze in a couple of last minute tourist visits. We next get Chloe, our little Garcia 45 sail boat, ready for cruising over the Gibraltar straights and up the Spanish Coast. Our first planned stop is the Spanish marina of La Linea, underlying the Gibraltar Rock. Dawn does a quick review of Chloe's galley per request. Our paddle wheel clogs up but we shoot over the straights of Gibraltar in perfect sailing conditions with 20 to 30 knots of wind but with a rough landing in La Linea. The Gibraltar Rock has a lot to offer a tourist, we were pleasantly surprised. Dawn LOVED the Monkeys.

So we are still in lock down and not allowed to sail anywhere, or even sleep on board. But we are allowed to drive places and sail the boat as long as it returns to her home port, so thats what we did. Its a long drive for a short sail but still worth it when the weather is so nice. Four years ago, we bought a boat and set out to explore the world with absolutely no sailing experience. Experts and novices all around the world wide web told us we would fail, sink, and die. Well, surprise, surprise, we’re still alive!  Turns out you CAN just go buy a boat and sail about the world. BUT…that doesn’t mean it’s been easy. To say we had (and still have) a lot to learn is an understatement.   Knowing we were clueless, we made a video so we would be able to one day reflect on our newbie expectations and compare them to reality. Looking back at our peculiar beginning now is both comical and endearing.  We really had no idea what was ahead of us. We thought our RV experience would help…and it did…but there is sooo much more to boat life than we could comprehend. Currently, we’re stuck in isolation in Fiji.  Restrictions and closures keep us from exploring so we’ve been sifting through years of videos, mistakes, misadventures, and victories.  Asking ourselves, if we could go back in time what advice would we give ourselves, what would we want to know? So, if hindsight is 20/20, here it is, the realities of living on a sailboat. The stuff we wished we would've known before we bought a boat, and set off around the world. WHO ARE WE? We’re Jason and Nikki Wynn. We been living #OffTheGrid and exploring the world for almost a decade. Our first six years of #travel were an epic road trip around North America. Now we’re on a #sailing voyage about the world. Did we have any previous sailing experience, of course not! Neither of us is overly talented, smart, rich, lucky, or retired. But that doesn’t stop us from reaching far-flung destinations, having wild adventures, and managing everything that makes living aboard a moving vessel possible. We’re two ordinary people that just so happen to live an extraordinary life. Because... Life is an adventure! Extraordinary moments out there for anyone willing, and wanting, to go after it. Living on a catamaran is pretty awesome most of the time, not just because you get to go sailing but also because you learn to do new things like spearfishing in crystal clear water.
