Meet George the base manager from charter company Istion in Alimos Marina, the biggest base in Athens. In this interview he explores the best places he recommends sailing to as you make your way from Athens harbour. Western winds can blow pretty quickly and when the wind is blowing from the north, you need to be aware of the big waves, when crossing to Poros. Saronic and Algonic Gulf is a sailing area, so it's the first step for anyone who wants to start sailing. Much easier than other parts of Greece.  "Don't forget to have an overnight at Island Dokos. You can say the water is wonderful and the best port all around the area." says George. Delos, Delos this is the US COAST GUARD on 16 OVER! It’s not every morning you hear the US Coastguard calling you on the radio, then doing a close fly-by when you're anchored in the middle of no where. I definitely felt nervous as Brian answered the VHF call. We’re anchored in an incredible spot and with 0kn of wind its like our house is floating in a swimming pool. Brian heads out to catch some dinner before diving head first into some boat work that involves drilling a pretty big hole in the side of the boat :) If your in the mood for a little bit of everything good you will like this episode. We attempt to leave Vero Beach but as we approach the fuel dock a horrible sound comes out of the engine room. When we take a look we find the prop shaft has disconnected from the motor and the bolts are trying to rip apart the transmission. 2 days of lively off-wind sailing from Jamaica to Grand Cayman. With Covid-19 starting to cause concern, we departed Jamaica and headed for the medical security of Grand Cayman, which we hoped to explore before any restrictions were applied. We left Montego Bay on a fast beam reach, aiming to arrive in Cayman Brac the following morning. But as we approached, the sea-state increased and aligned itself with the island. The heavy waves rolling down both sides of the island meant there was no tenable anchorage or mooring to be taken and we had no choice but sail right passed both Cayman Brac and Little Cayman and continue a further 100 miles west, to Grand Cayman. It was a rolly downwind sail and we arrived late in the evening to George Town where we took a mooring ball. The following day, as we checked-in, we discovered Cayman would close its borders to arriving yachts the following day. We were lucky, we were in!

She is absolutely ready to go wherever your cruising plans might take you. INDEX: Cockpit: 1:13 Saloon: 2:27 Galley: 3:20 Pilothouse: 3:59 Foredeck: 5:41 Boat Deck: 6:23 Flybridge: 7:12 Lower Level: 8:05 Engine Room: 9:48 Misty Pearl is an excellent example of the collaborative efforts of Ted Hood and Howard Chen when they set out to build long range live aboard trawlers that combine highly desirable features such as a Portuguese bridge and walk around decks with high end finishes, which make Misty Pearl as comfortable to live aboard as she is to cruise and dock. High bulwarks around the deck add safety and convenience to her common sense design. As she has demonstrated, she is a “Go Anywhere” vessel, comfortable at sea and with the range to cross oceans. Cockpit: The cockpit is a wonderful place to spend time. There is plenty of shade from the full boat deck above and you can easily move from either side up to the raised pilothouse. Large doors on either side of the cockpit make boarding Misty Pearl safe and easy. Under the cockpit decking is the lazarette hatch with provides access to a large storage area, steering components and the aft freshwater tank. There is also a transom shower which can be raised to use on the swim platform or in the cockpit. The Grunert Freezer has been decommissioned. Saloon: A Diamond SeaGlaze Dutch door leads into the saloon which has an L shaped leather settee to port with storage underneath. There is an adjustable table which raises and lowers as well as folds for dining and socializing. The entertainment center to starboard contains a newly installed Bluetooth-compatible Clarion Stereo and a 36” flat-screen TV. Galley: Moving forward on the same level as the saloon is an efficient galley with a full range of built in appliances including a Vitrifrigo 110V/12V refrigerator/freezer (new 2018), a Seaward Princess three-burner electric stove and oven with broiler and a GE Profile microwave oven with exhaust fan. There is an ample amount of workspace on the beautiful wrap around Corian countertops. Continuing forward to the starboard of the galley are stairs leading to the raised pilothouse. Stairs to the port side of the galley lead to the stateroom companionway with engine room access. Pilothouse: The Pilothouse is accessed by a few steps to starboard of the Galley. As you enter the Pilothouse you notice a full suite of Garmin electronics complete with touchscreen control and with all chart software up to date. At the helm you will find joystick control for both bow and stern thrusters making docking a controlled process. There are also controls for the anchor windlass which means that single handling this boat is not a problem. Well laid out electrical panels are easily accessible as are the controls for the generator, inverter and air conditioning systems. Misty Pearl truly is a fabulous vessel which will impress you with her stabilized ride while providing ease of service and ownership. She is a proven passage maker built by a manufacturer who has continually evolved in their ability to bring together quality materials, a practical and efficient design and beautiful fit and finish into a package that you will appreciate and take great pride in owning. Bei unserem letzten Bootsbesuch wurden wir auf eine Schwachstelle der Carters aufmerksam gemacht: der Kielbalken. Auch unser Balken stellte ein Risiko dar. Der Holzbalken war bereits vom Wasser angegriffen und instabil. Daher stand schnell fest, dass dieser komplett ausgetauscht werden muss. Für einen Laien ist das keine so einfache Aufgabe. Mit Hilfe und Fachwissen von einem Bootsbauer konnten wir aber zum Glück sehr schnell die Operation angehen.
