Ahoy! We are Miguel and Saskia. In July 2020 we left Amsterdam aboard Saetta, a 1983 Moody 41, to see more from the world. We plan to cross the Atlantic Ocean around December 2020. On this channel you can follow our trip: where we go, how we get there, what we explore, our joys and our struggles. In this video we meet Miguel's family, see at bit of the city Muros (Spain), enjoy some anchorages in the Spanish Rias, go to the beach for the first time in ages, and finally sail to Porto. Sailing out into open water on The Dink. This tiny boat is lots of fun and easy to sail! I made landfall on the other side of the Neuse river to have a little adventure on the sandy beaches and I set sail again after the sunset. I sailed across the river after dark and under a full moon. I install a Tru-Cool 40k transmission cooler onto our RV. While I'm at it, I also set up a temperature gauge so that we can keep tabs on how hot things are getting while we drive our big, heavy RV + towing the car through 100f+ outside temps. Before installing the transmission cooler, infrared heat-gun readings on the transmission were anywhere from 180f to 240f depending on conditions. After installing the cooler, the running temperature dropped dramatically to a range of 150-170f... PERFECT. The temperature never goes over 180f... not even when towing the car uphill, at 3200 RPM, on a HOT 120f day in the sun-baked desert. I'm very pleased with how well these products worked. We're not affiliated with them in any way, but I can definitely recommend them to anyone needing to get their transmission temperature down. ~ Ben, Tambi, & Molly | "SAILBOAT STORY" [ SUPPORT THE CHANNEL ] https://patreon.com/sailboatstory | Join the crew and help keep the cameras rolling! https://paypal.me/sailboatstory | Make a donation and help upgrade our camera gear! No current, (high tide) no wind, and the pin to a new Chinese made shackle just fell out. ( a fluke to have gone straight for the best place, grounded and not drifted away and gone forever)
First time I tried it, the low side windows went a little bit under water, so I had to stop and close them. That is where the little bit of water came from. No doubt those windows were totally submerged this time, because the guy pulled to fast. that salt water through the window wetted a nice but less than water proof flashlight, and the coffee pot fell over spilling coffee grounds, but that was all I had to show for it all at the end of the day.

We finally get to start the repair of the fiberglass on my salvage sailboat. At the end of the video I share my insights on for choosing the right core material for the boat. Corecell (SAN), Divinycell (PVC), PE Foam, PU foam and plastic honeycomb. Why I choose the core I choose for which composite task and why. If you haven't watched the other episodes, you might enjoy watching the journey from the beginning when I go look at the sailing catamaran in the Bahamas after hurricane Dorian, and the fun process of getting the Antares boat to where it is now. Lot's of grinding, sanding and fiberglass repairs and details coming up. Join me on my dream of restoring this boat and sailing it around the world.
We start exploring the island of Alor by renting a motorbike and driving around, getting a feel for the place pretty fast. Some local said we should visit a tiny traditional village called Takpala so we google mapped it and set off. Turned out to be a pretty hectic road for our little scooter but we made it up there eventually. On the way back Marie gave me a quick haircut by the beach and then we went out on a little boat to see the local Dugong. Amazing experience but it got hectic pretty quick! Surfing down crazy waves, hitting the bottom, and navigating through unlit Islands at night! Ahoy Delos tribe! Hope you all are ready to kick back a bit for the weekend :) We hope this video helps you get off to a great start. It's bitter sweet but ultimately we decide it's safer to sail back to the US then stay in the Bahamas. So we set sail on our longest passage to date with the Little Nugget onboard. It's the beginning of a 1,000 NM sail taking us from the very southern tip of the Bahamas to Annapolis, Maryland. The hurricane season is fast approaching and we're forced to leave our beloved spot in the Bahamas. After 4 months of lazy anchorage life we feel a little rusty doing a longer sail but need to get in the swing of things quickly as we find ourselves surfing down ocean swells trying to sail through a cut between two islands. It's so exciting to be sailing again :D Hope you enjoy it too! Many virtual hugs from us! We find ourselves recently arrived in the port of Brixham, having just sailing over from Portland and before we know it, we're hit by not 1, not 2, but 3 storms in the space of a week. Let's get cleaning! Our bilge is absolutely disgusting - it's clear that the leaking is not a new problem. As we put together more of the story with this boat we learn that this boat was initially damaged several years ago. We still don't know the whole story, but it seems maybe it was repaired and damaged again. By the looks of it, it has been taking on at least a little bit of water ever since that initial damage. Now as we clean we make some startling discoveries about our new boat. Some good...some bad. A few panic attacks later and we've calmed down enough to get back to work. It's been a long road to get here. From buying our Beneteau 49 at auction, road tripping across the country, putting her back in the water after a quick (but thorough) inspection, and then last week getting some of the interior disassembled. We're almost ready to start cutting into her to see how bad things are beneath the glossy surface, but first we clean. Thanks for watching- With love The Evans' **************************************** *Our Boat* 2008 Beneteau 49 3 cabin 2 head 4JH4-TE Westerbeke gen Mast, sails and rigging are in excellent condition and in storage Here's what we *think* we know about her past. Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. Rationing is in force on Florence, the arrival of a food delivery boat is something to be celebrated and even more so as this time it brings a special delivery to allow us to make the most of this island paradise. Sailing around the world is not simple in these times and we have to get used to living in isolation off the grid, luckily we are anchored next to a beautiful tropical island and in one of the best parts of the world for surfing. We are a British couple who set off from England in 2016 to fulfill our dream of sailing around the world on our 37ft sail boat, Florence. On this week's episode of Onboard Lifestyle we lock ourselves in our 435 catamaran SV basik during our stay in Bodega Bay. The West coast wildfires created an unhealthy environment for everyone. The forecast was for a lowered AQI so we take the opportunity to head south to Drakes Bay then on to Sausalito. Come back next week to see what our new plans are...see you then! JOIN OUR CREW! RUM! SUN! FRIENDS! FUN! Tons of SAILING Then REPEAT! This week is our LAST WEEK in the US Virgin Islands as we prepare and stage ourselves for our Grenada passage and into quarantine for 2 weeks. So we admittedly lived it up a little! Okay, a lot. No apologies. Lol. With good friends from Ohio, Derek and Christine visiting St. John, plus Beau and Brandi prepping their boat for a passage to the Grenadines, AND a birthday for the captain on the schedule, we decided to pretend we're charter vacationers and hit a new spot every single day. And it was a blast! NOW we feel prepared to head south and quarantine on the boat for 14 days....we think. Enjoy!! And be sure to SUBSCRIBE for WEEKLY CONTENT EVERY FRIDAY! Cheers!! Thanks for watching SailAway, the travel documentary of an adventurous sailing couple, plus toddler and dog, sailing the world! [JOIN OUR CREW] Appreciate our videos? In the Desert of Qatar we go Paragliding and film the whole thing with the new GoPro Max to get awesome 360 footage near Sealine Beach. I am bringing BD TUnisian Dreamer and C707 along with me to film the adventure! Be sure to check out their channels and subscribe, show them some love as well!! BD Tunisian Dreamer: @BD Tunisian Dreamer C707: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCURLuwPyLoCzgip_CkLExfw The paragliding spot is near Sealine Beach in Qatar, and then a few miles into the desert. It is the one place where the dunes are highest for perfect paragliding. And this is the first opportunity I have to film the paragliding in Qatar with the GoPro Max in 360' VR, and then reframed to fit your screen properly. If you love paragliding and are wondering whether you should get the GoPro Max to film your flights, check out this video, it will give you a really good impression of what your footage will look like! Definitely Subscribe to my channel for more travel and adventure sports videos, both in Qatar and abroad. I really enjoy getting to know new people from around the world this way. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach in Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony with our 4 kids, just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love Carla and Simon
Don't panic guys - this is not the end, simply the start of a new chapter. Our brand new Elba is due for completion at the end of the year and we can't wait to introduce her. In the mean time we are looking forward to sharing our Turkish winter experiences with you so stay tuned, cheers.
We anchored our sailboat and took a hike up to see the lava flows on Stromboli, and active volcano north is Sicily that last erupted in 2019. We were still nervous about leaving our OC tender on the beach and our catamaran at anchor since we are still gaining confidence in our Mantis anchor (and our deep water anchoring skills :-). The sunset view was amazing, the hike was rigorous and seeing Mother Nature in action is epic! You can follow our full transition to liveaboard cruising in our podcast, COVERT CASTAWAY, wherever you get your podcasts or check our our sailing blog at https://www.sailingawen.com/ You can also find us on Facebook or Instagram
