During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie love about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time. In dieser Folge bekommen wir Besuch von Henne, unseren befreundeten Profi-Skipper. Gemeinsam finden wir die besten Segeleigenschaften der Benko raus und trimmen die Segel was das Zeug hält. Doch zuvor ist erst einmal Großeinkauf angesagt. Wir machen alle Malls und Supermärkte in der Umgebung unsicher und sind danach wieder gut gerüstet für die nächsten Wochen. Wir lernen viel dazu in dieser Woche und freuen uns, das Boot jetzt noch besser handhaben zu können. Gemeinsam segeln wir von der Marina Kastela erst nach Vinisce und dann in die Marina nach Vis Stadt. Genug Zeit auf der Strecke auch noch mal den Gennaker auszuprobieren. Von Vis Stadt geht es dann Richtung Süden in die Luka Rukavac, wo wir einen tollen Badetag einlegen. Auf dem Rückweg zum Flughafen Split machen wir dann noch in Rogacic halt, wo wir einen alten Uboot Bunker besichtigen. Sailing ORIZON - Segeln im Mittelmeer... Im letzten Video ist unser Anker in der großen Bucht Ormos Valtou gefallen. Diese Bucht mit seiner Antiken Mole kennen wir schon von unserem Törn in 2008 und finden sie immer noch toll. Schon allein weil man von hier aus das hübsche Parga nach einem kurzen Spaziergang besuchen kann. Von Segelfreunden hatten den Tipp für die Two-Rocks-Bay bekommen und steuern diese somit als nächstes an. Die Bucht ist traumhaft schön und wir wären noch länger als zwei Nächte geblieben, wenn uns nicht der gemeldete Westwind weiter getrieben hätte. So steuern wir Preveza im Ambrakischen Golf an und gehen hinter der Marina Preveza vor Anker. Auch Preveza kennen wir schon und freuen uns auf die quirlige Stadt und den Ambrakischen Golf. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ In the last video, our anchor fell in the large Ormos Valtou bay. We already know this bay with its ancient mole from our cruise in 2008 and we still think it's great, also because you can visit pretty Parga after a short walk from here. Sailing friends had gave us the tipp for the Two-Rocks-Bay and so we are heading for it next. The bay is fantastically beautiful and we would have stayed longer than two nights if the reported westerly wind had not driven us further. So we head for Preveza in the Ambracian Gulf and anchor behind the Marina Preveza. We already know Preveza and are looking forward to the lively city and the Ambracian Gulf. Bonjour, Nous sommes Christel et moi issue de la restauration et donc apprécions beaucoup de recevoir et de faire plaisir. Nous avons pris le temps de filmer la préparation de ce repas et vous en faisons profiter. Il va y avoir plusieurs vidéos afin de ne pas trop couper les plans. So... Donna and I decided that taking sailing lessons seemed like a great idea. Who knows how far this crazy thing will go? Our lesson with Gord from Starlight Sailing Adventrues was so much more than we had imagined. We envisioned that he would take us out sailing and explain a few of the more rudimentary aspect of what sailing was about and maybe - MAYBE - we would get to haul on a line or something like that. Oh no - Gord had bigger things in mind for us! After our safety briefing he started the engine and then described how to cast off, putting Donna at the helm. He taught her how to exit the dock and then got me to haul the main sail and within a few minutes we were sailing baby! Gord showed us how to adjust the genoa (that's the big triangular sail forward of the mast) and the mainsail (that's the one aft of the mast), how to sail upwind, how to heave to (although that was admittedly due to not listening to instructions on our part), how to tack, how to sail downwind 'wing on wing' as well as in a reach (yeah, I still don't really know what that means yet), how to navigate using the GPS charts, how to interpret the marker buoys that dotted the harbour, and how to dock. Yes. It was a LOT for an introductory lesson. And did I mention that we saw porpoises? Because we DID!! One comment: the air was SUPER thick with forest fire smoke so that's not fog you're seeing. Also, this was a very simple video so our apologies for the amateurish nature of it. I used our action camera in its waterproof housing so there's no audio for example. We had bigger things to focus on - like learning how to sail. Future videos will likely be more full featured -- like including our voices. And yes, there WILL be future videos! We will be taking our Basic Cruising Standard instruction (a 5 day, 4 night sail course) and then our intermediate celestial navigation course with Gord as well. We want to move on to get our intermediate and advanced cruising standards and ultimately - who knows? - our offshore cruising standard. With that under our belts, there's no limit to where we could sail! But we have to walk before we can run. This was a lot to take in for one day, but we are INCREDIBLY excited to continue this journey. One of the more difficult things when sailing the Nacra 17 is upwind foiling. As if foiling alone isn't difficult enough... Not only that it is difficult it is also very exhausting. The tricky bit about upwind foiling, well one of the things, is to actually make way to windward. Not just speeding around. We try to achieve this by heeling over to windward. The angled leeward daggerboard helps to reduce slipping sideways. Also you have some windward daggerboard in the water following the same purpose. If you are just foiling leveled or heeled over to leeward like on a normal upwind only the tips of the foils could prevent drift. Having poured all the smaller bronze Floors, we have to build a bigger flask in order to cast the largest ones. Packing these big moulds isn’t without it’s setbacks, and we experience the frustration of having the sand collapse onto the ground after a whole day of shovelling and ramming. Eventually we make a successful pour, and after this piece is ground and finished it is bolted into the boat alongside its siblings. Meanwhile, the last of the patterns are made - including all the Lodging Knees and Breast Hooks. Avoid humans! Departing our last anchorage of a hole in the wall, we squeeze Nandji through the cliffs and into the channel. We are planning to raise our Asymmetrical spinnaker Unicorn fart, but during the time of leaving the channel, a big squall had brewed and we were now about to cop some bad weather. Rather than continue into the storm and bash into the on coming weather, we make a quick decision to change our plan and hide away in what turns out to be one of the best places we have anchored in Langkawi. With so much stunning remote coast line to explore, we take Flubber on an excursion and finish with the best sunset we can remember. Sometimes plans change but if it is one thing we have learnt this year is to adapt and make the most out of any situation. As sailors, we are dependant upon the weather to travel and this means plans can change frequently. Adapting to live with this for ever changing scenario, the rewards received when accepting that things dont always go to plan are priceless. That is how we ended up here. Away from the crowds, alone and happy. With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! We were on our shake down sail when the mooring we were on failed and our home ended up on the reef. We saved the old girl and got her back to the boat yard for repairs to continue on our adventure! Ready to sail across the Indian Ocean, we were only days away from leaving when the pandemic begun closing countries around us... We are stuck for now, but enjoying the slower pace! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it!
