Wir waren am Vortag in Schleimünde angekommen und hatten nun ein Problem. Es waren ein weiter Weg zurück nach Heiligenhafen und der Wetterbericht sprach von mehr Ostwind. Da es nur ein Wochenend-Törn war, blieb uns keine Wahl als uns trotz der widrigen Wind-Bedingungen zurück auf den Weg nach Osten zu machen. Glücklicherweise hatten wir zwei Tage Zeit und konnten so noch einen Zwischenstopp in Laboe einlegen. Es ging also hart am Wind in die Kieler Förde und nach einer geruhsamen Nacht bei zunächst Flaute weiter nach Osten. Aufgrund des fehlenden Winds und des sommerhaften Wetters ließen wir aber bald den Anker fallen, legten eine Mittagspause ein und gingen in der Ostsee schwimmen. Ein Knoten Strömung und viele Quallen machten den Ausflug ins Kühle Nass etwas abenteuerlich... Zwei Stunden später lichteten wir mit Manneskraft den Anker und machten uns auf den Weg in die Marina. Dunkel Wolken zogen auf und der Wind drückte immer stärker gegen unseren Bug, der sich gegenan durch die Wellen kämpfte. En Méditerranée, les pontons et les catways se font rares. Le plus souvent, les bateaux sont amarrés culs à quai et l'étrave est maintenue par une pendille. Mais si le port n'est pas équipé de pendilles c'est votre mouillage qui maintiendra l'étrave du bateau en place, on appelle cela le mouillage méditerranéen ou mouillage cul à quai. Replace our exhaust manifold gasket and repair a bolt that is broke. Have broken plenty of bolts in the past, not a fun job to do. If we left this we would end up with a burnt valve in the head, that is a job we really don't want to do. First, we have to take the Intake and Exhaust Manifold Off or Jeep Wrangler Taking off the intake and exhaust manifold is not too hard, but just to get to it there are a bunch of vacuum hoses and wires. Then once done with all that, the power steering pump and the mount has to be removed. Removing the Jeep's power steering pump and the bracket is pretty easy, it's putting it back that will try your patients.  Now that we have a clear path, we can remove the intake, followed by the exhaust manifold. Broken Exhaust Manifold Bolt or Stud on our Jeep Wrangler As we said, this is not our first broken bolt, probably won't be our last, always a pain to fix when it happens. There is plenty of places you can source your tap set for your newly discovered misfortune, if you click here to get your tap set, it helps us out.  Now let's get this taped, most of the time we go from a smaller to bigger bit, depending on how big the tap is. Once we have drilled with the correct size bit we can start tapping our new hole. As we thread the newly drilled hole, we are very liberal with lube. We will turn the tap around 2 full turns, then bak it out and spray lube. Once we hole is threaded, with then run our bolt all the way down making sure we have good threads. Putting the Exhaust and Intake Manifold Gasket for our Jeep Wrangler Nothing like having an exhaust leak. Not only do exhaust leaks sound bad, but they can also damage your car's head. When we took our exhaust manifold off our Jeep Wrangler it didn't have a gasket, either meaning that we are the first to do this, or the previous owner forgot to add it. The only time you don't have to use a gasket is if you have two exact surfaces coming to gather, but in the video, you can see this is clearly not the case. A rare bloom of Luzonichthys earlei (Earle's splitfin anthias) occurred at Lehua this summer, lasting from early / mid June through the end of July. The last time this was documented was about 10 years ago. Here is a glimpse of the event from the four times we were able to get over there while this was first happening. All four of these crossings were on the Ho'okahi with Captain Tara Leota.

Never trust a mooring! We learnt it in the hard way. In this episode we tied up to a great diving spot, on top of a pinnacle. We wanted to goof off but duty calls. Went out for a nice sailing day; on the way back, the engine started to overheat. When the alarm went off, we decided to hobble the rest of the way to the slip. Good thing we had a bit of a tail wind to help between intermittent starting and stopping of the engine. Since there was no water in the muffler, Steve diagnosed the issue as a worn-out impeller. Fortunately, we had a spare Yanmar part. The next goal was to find out how in the heck to access the housing for the impeller. After locating a rectangular hatch on the engine compartment giving impeller housing visibility, removing 4 10mm bolts, pulling out the wrecked impeller and loose vanes, was able to put the new part in. A little soap on the vanes made it a easier to secure the new impeller, replaced the seawater pump housing plate, and was good to go. Tested out the repairs the next day and Cakewalk was ready to go again. Unfortunately, the winds were not. There was little to no air. We found a nice little cove, and with our new anchor light we decided to spend the night. Wonderful evening in the 60's.
