Just outside of La Paz on the island of Espiratu Santo, a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site, we escape into a magical world just us, the boat and the nature all around us. We experience our first rainstorm in months and it leads to one of the most beautiful mornings we have ever had aboard Evolias. Let me be clear. I LOVE Lyle Hess boats, and the Bristol Channel Cutter is one of my favorite designs by him. This vessel, Sun Star, is a 1979 Bristol Channel Cutter that has been abandoned for a long time in a small boatyard in Florida. Normally, these boats are worth between 50,000 to 100,000 dollars depending on condition, so would it be worth it to restore this abandoned boat to her former glory? I think so, but only for the right person willing and able to put in the work. Personally, I think the right person needs to come by, truck the boat to their own property, and work on it as a passion project. Unfortunately, that's not us right now (though we did think about it!). What do you think? Is she a diamond in the rough or a wreck only worth the money you'll get from scrapping her? The first day of the Bacardi Cup included one race for a star-studded fleet of Stars. 2021 marks the 94th year of this historic regatta and a limited number of competitors were able to get on the water in 20+ knots of wind for epic, but challenging racing conditions. The gold star skippers and crews made their way to the front of the fleet today, but with 5 more days of racing, it is still anyone's game.

Hi .. . this is not a normal episode. Just wanted to update on my whereabouts. I have made it to Havu Port on the southern tip of Oshima. It was a bit of a miserable day yesterday sailing from Misaki here but I learned a lot facing mild adversity. Have made some adjustments and leaving here within the next hour or so. My goal is to get blue water experience, and I have a permit good for 30 days that allows me to go beyond 5 nautical miles of shore. I will be a couple hundred or more. I may go as far as Okinawa but not sure. It depends where the wind and waves take me. I have a kind invitation to visit Amami Oshima so would like to visit there. E8: We have been patiently waiting, well we acted patient, for our Amazon order to finally completely arrive. We recorded two different sessions about 3 weeks apart as the final 10 boxes of our order got stuck in customs for 3 weeks. The first two boxes came in, no problem, 5 days after our Amazon order. Amazon is amazing, ship literally to the other side of the world in 5 days. In addition to us opening up our boxes and going through the items, we do a quick review and introduction to the Samsung Tab Active Pro 2 tablet. We feel like the Tab Active is a great tablet for use on a boat. It is waterproof to 5 feet, dustproof and shock resistant. A rugged tablet for a rugged environment aboard a boat. We plan on using our Samsung Tab Actives for navigation using Navionics and Isailor. In conjunction with OpenCPN on our laptops, we feel like we have good redundancy and a wealth of information between the 3 programs. In addition, we will be able to use our IridiumGo and Predictwind for offshore weather information. This system was designed to be installed as a retrofit for a diesel or gas sailboat propulsion system. It represents the pinnacle of a design that evolved for efficiency, safety, power and maximum mounting flexibility, lightning protection, and precise control of the propeller.
