De notre point d’ancrage à Walvis Bay, environs 230 milles vont nous faire longer la côte du Kaokoland et donc par dépendance, une partie du désert du Namib. Si pour nous, avec tous nos instruments, l’expérience unique est excitante, il devait en être tout autrement pour les marins d’antan qui prient dans les courants et les forts brouillards partaient bien souvent au casse-pipe. Depuis cette époque, les épaves de navires qui parsèment l’inhospitalier littoral ont donné le nom de côte des squelettes à cette bande côtière. Nous nous apprêtons à la border ! Mon capitaine prend son temps, rien ne presse, nous n’avons que 32 milles à faire jusqu’à Hottentot. Des copains nous ont parlé de cette baie. Protégée, elle abrite quelques bateaux de pêcheurs de langoustes et sera une étape judicieuse pour éviter deux nuits de navigation. Dans la pétole, les moteurs ronronnent, le froid me transit mais il y a de quoi détourner l’attention que je porte à mes pieds glacés ! Des petites têtes rondes et luisantes sortent à tour de rôle de leur brun habitât, curieuses, d’un air questionneur, nous observent et suivies de leur grassouillet corps, plongent et réapparaissent presque aussitôt comme pour s’assurer de ce qu’elles venaient de voir ! Quand ce ne sont pas les otaries qui viennent nous distraire, ce sont les cormorans, « fuseleurs » de ciel qui se plaisent à nous démontrer leur parfaite symbiose synchronique, puis viennent les dauphins, lagénorhynque à flancs blancs, par dizaine, ils s’amusent à captiver toutes nos pensées et enfin, les nuages se dissipent, le soleil perce, mes orteils se dégourdissent et la chaleur a raison de nos pulls ! Quelques puffins solitaires ondulent, de grosses méduses rouges dé-ternissent cette eau havane et là, juste là, au pied de notre mouillage, le plus vieux désert du monde nous grâce d’un paysage splendide. Nous sommes le seul voilier ! Isolés de l’agitation mondial, nous avons l’impression de ne faire qu’un avec la nature. Belle, elle nous fascine, tous les jours encore plus ! Do you ever wonder happens to a life raft that expires? Does it still deploy? Watch this video for the answer! We joined Island Water World of SXM for a Saturday demonstration & beer party. They released three old rafts into the lagoon in the back of their shop and showed us what a 15 year, 5 year and 3 year expired raft does or does not do. It was fascinating! First of all, we had never seen a life raft deployed so that was, in and of itself, gold. And, we learned alot like: 1. Our life raft is too big. We have a 12 man as this was a charter boat, but should probably only have an 8 man. We will buy a new one when we make an ocean passage. 2. It's REALLY hard to get into a liferaft even in a flat, no seas lagoon. 3. Knowing what is in your life raft and where it is located, is essential to your survival. 4. Ensuring your raft is re-certified every three years is essential. While you never plan to and also hope to never use your raft, the reality is that you might have to. Things happen in this big ocean that are beyond our control and having a life raft that is functional and provisioned is essential. Damien made his way through the French and European Youth Championships until joining the PWA ranks in 2019. In his own words: competing in PWA was like a dream come true. In the women's competition, the Spanish Silvia Mas Depares and Patricia Cantero Reina kept the lead for the third day in a row, and in the mixed category, Israel's Gil Cohen and Noam Homri dethroned achieved the lead.

Wow, It is crazy to think that last year we said our final goodbyes and set sail across the Gulf Of Mexico! We arrived in Pensacola Florida 7 days later to a full global shutdown but that didn't stop us much. It's often said that owning or living on a boat is just “doing boat projects in exotic places,” and in this vlog that's exactly what we are doing! If you consider New Zealand an exotic place lol! In reality we are full swing into preparing for our offshore passage to Fiji in about 6-8 weeks time. As New Zealanders owning a NZ registered boat that means we need to get our Category 1 Safety Certificate which is basically a huge checklist of very sensible things you should have on your boat before going offshore, most of which we already had in our 3 years sailing half-way around the world and a lot of which we didn't, while it's all good stuff sometimes this expensive and time consuming list feels like a bit of an overkill but if we ever want to leave the country on Nikau again we have to tick the boxes!

Hey Everyone!! We finally take off from Nassau and head to the Exumas!! So excited to be doing more diving in our favorite part of The Bahamas. Watch while we swim with dozens of reef sharks and hang out 35 ft down with some nurse sharks:) After that the sail to Nassau begins with no wind and Nathalie take the chance to fly the drone while motoring.
