In this episode of Towards the Adventure, we're not quite done wrapping our sailboat for the winter when a 2 day storm hits us. Winds over 140kph/80mph shake our boat and have us rolling heavily while tied to the dock. Things fall over, and we're on edge as the storm intensifies. While other boats are being tipped off their cradles, we work furiously to patch holes in our cover in the middle of the worst storm to hit in over 40 years.

Yesterday we did a 90nm passage from Martinique to St. Vincent. Boat is fully loaded as we are going into 14d. quarantine. Lots of food, bottled water, beer, wine, full water tanks - 900L, full diesel tanks - 450L + 80L for genset. And of course all the spares and toys as usual for livaboards. And still on a nice breeze of 18kn and 120-130TWA we are averaging 9kn of boat speed with occasional 12kn down some small waves.

Here’s a short video showing how we’re hanging an AB 10 UL tender under the arch of our Garcia Exploration 45. The block and tackle arrangements at each side of the arch provide independent 1:4 lifting ratios. One downside with this is that a lot of the 8mm lifting line is needed to bring the tender up from the ground if the boat is on the hard. 21m of line on each side. We’ve used 10mm line for the lifting loops inside the tender. 8mm Dynema is used for the loops through the arch’s lugs, with a sheet bend forming the loop. This makes the loop easy to adjust. It is possible to leave the outboard on the tender and lift it. The 1:4 ratio helps here. This combo can’t be lifted as high as the tender on its own. Regards, Rick.

She is fairly comfortable with 15 to 20 kts of wind. Freshwater capacity to last over 2 weeks and a fuel range of 13 days steaming. This is a hard episode for me as I'm sure you can understand. For those that have been following us for years, I'm sure that this will come as quite a shock that we broke up some time ago. We're not even sure if it was obvious in the videos or not. Or if new viewers were even aware that we used to be a couple. But in any case talking about something so personal as a break up in a public setting like YouTube is never easy. So we had a really hard time discussing or putting it into words. As many of you have figured out our videos are a bit behind and thankfully they are as covid has made travel for everyone inconvienent including us. In this episode we land in Papua New Guinea and contemplate life, do we stay here? do we enter the zombie apocalypse that is the new Covid World? And we finally discuss our relationship. Jordan & Nate are still and will hopefully always continue to be good friends. Thank you for your continued support and understanding. Things were going so smoothly... And then with one simple mistake it ends with a spark and a puff of smoke! I don’t know how many times we’ve said “Boat projects! They’re never straight forward!” We’re about half way though our massive boat-work list and some challenges are thrown our way. First off, our brand new washing machine is a touch too wide to fit through the companionway door, so we have to completely dismantle and rebuild it inside Delos. Then in a comedy of errors Brian drills though a very important electrical wire trying to mount the new washer :( Oh yeah, and the dive compressor is giving us a fit but we'll save that for later. We are from Ohio/Michigan and we bought a sailboat and re-fit it in a boatyard in Rhode Island, and keep doing boat projects along the way to improve her. We set off almost two years ago with a goal to sail around the world via the Great Capes. We have been cruising the northeast, Maine, Bahamas, and the Caribbean and have been living off the grid since then. We are Kate, Curtis, and Roxy the Dog. We are lifelong sailors and accomplished sailboat racers that got a taste of the world and wanted to see the rest. Our original route to accomplish our mission was to make a transatlantic voyage to the Azores, then down to the Canary and Cape Verde Islands to set us up to make a run into the Southern Atlantic Ocean. Then ye 'ol corona hit and we had to call a major audible. It is still our goal to make it to Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope, it is just going to take a little longer than planned. We were inspired by videos from the likes of SV Delos, Sailing La Vagabond, Gone with the Wynns, Tula's Endless Summer, and many other YouTube sailing channels. * ALL FOOTAGE FILMED & INITIAL EDIT PRIOR TO FINNS DISAPPEARANCE. This week we get a lot of final jobs done as we prepare to cross the Atlantic Ocean later this year. One of the most important items is having AIS and proper safety gear, so we hooked up a Em-Trak B954 Class B AIS Transceiver and SART100, probably something we should all have whether we are crossing the Atlantic or staying in the Med anyway... We also cleaned off a whole new civilization from the bottom of our dinghy and believe it or not, we get a washing machine from Amazon that weighs as much as a mobile phone... Fingers crossed we get to use it before it breaks :/ We say goodbye to the 2 kittens, Miso and Tofu, that found their way to our boat this last month.
