British short-handed sailor Ian Hoddle was on holiday in Australia last year when he first met Andy Offord - owner of the Sunfast 3300 Borderline - while out walking the dogs. Roll forward to 2025 and the pair have just competed the big race south as doublehanders on Borderline. Ian also owns and races a Sunfast 3300 shorthanded in his case in the UK, but the duo both speak about how much fun these boats are to race.

In 2024 Edward Curry Hyde and Scott Robertson both completed their first Sydney Hobart race as double-handers. It was an initiation by fire, given the very tough conditions of that race, but undaunted Edward has returned this time pairing up with the very experienced Lincoln Dews. They completed the race in good shape, presently lying third in the IRC Doublehanded division and an impressive 4th overall on IRC.

Grace Shipway has just completed her first race to Hobart aboard the renowned and much-loved S&S 47 Love and War. Her father Peter Shipway completed 31 races south, on two of which he was aboard Love and War when they won the Tattersall Cup for IRC overall. Grace is normally to be found racing aboard Noel Cornish’s Farr 40 Indi, but she hinted that she might be back again for the race to Hobart someday!

Every Boxing Day the focus for the offshore world shifts to the Rolex Sydney Hobart Race. This year the forecast was for punchy upwind conditions for the opening stages of the race and while the chances of a new record were slim, the battle at the front of the fleet was as close as it gets. Here's how the race for line honours played out.

We explore Morgans Bluff on Andros Island and then sail south to Fresh Creek/Andros Town. We continue to enjoy and adapt to Island Time and slip away into the beauty of this area. We do some dinghy rides up the river and try some local snorkeling around the boat, even helping save a Moray Eel! We still just chilling in Souther Spain taking it slow. We visited malaga in 1 day and took the measurements needed for our new furling boom

We had to change our mooring lines here in Ponta Delgada. The 'proper' ones that we usually use just made sooo much noise! After talking to a local, we were directed to the following shop: Honorato Moreira & Monteiro, Lda., Estr. Regional da Ribeira Grande 68A, 9500-296 Ponta Delgada Phone: 296 385 047 Walking from the direction of the marina, the shop is just past the prison on the same side of the road. We bought several lengths of 18mm line. The rope is actually sold by weight (?) but you ask for the length you want. They measure the rope and then weigh it. It worked out around 1 euro per metre. They only spoke Portuguese, so google translate is your friend here. They were really helpful and have a wide range of boating/fishing accessories. The polypropylene(?) mooring lines are so much quieter, and have good elasticity. The boat is much more pleasant to live on 😁 We also have mooring compensators. After four unforgettable nights in Bora Bora, it was finally time to set sail. Saying goodbye to one of the most beautiful places on earth is never easy, but the adventure wasn’t over yet. We enjoyed some great sailing at first, until the wind came right on the nose and reminded us that this is still real ocean sailing. We pushed on to Taha’a, stopped for lunch at a floating restaurant, then moved the boat out to the reef. The snorkeling at the Coral Garden was incredible, followed by an amazing dinner at a truly next-level resort.
