I left my boat three days ago to come to Shimane Prefecture, a Japanese longevity hotspot, more people live past 100 than anywhere else in the country. I came here to work on my book Longevity and the Art of Community: Lessons from Japan, but also to reflect on what it really means to live well and to finish well. I met a man whose 92-year-old mother had lived independently until just weeks before her passing. Her story reminded me of two women who shaped this journey: my mother and a farmer we called Granny of the Fields, who worked her terraced land until days before she died. My son, Mackenzie Sheppard, captured Granny’s story in a short, award-winning film — a quiet portrait of endurance, simplicity, and purpose. Watching it again here in Shimane, I’m reminded that longevity isn’t about adding years to life — it’s about adding life to years. Back in Shimane Prefecture, a noteworthy Japan longevity hotspot. Nous poursuivons tranquillement nos navigations, entre Kastos, Kalamos puis direction Préveza et Vonitsa. Le temps devient plus changeant, quelques jours de pluie, du vent, du soleil entre deux orages. L'automne s'installe doucement. Les navigations restent calmes et agréables, mais on sent la fin de saison approcher. De plus en plus de bateaux sortent de l'eau , les ports et les mouillages se vident peu à peu. 🌺 Aventure à Bora Bora – L’ascension de la montagne Ohue ! 🌴 Après plusieurs jours de navigation, nous arrivons enfin à Bora Bora avec nos bateaux copains : Hélia et Te Ava. Le lagon est d’un bleu incroyable,😍 et pour découvrir l’île autrement, nous décidons de nous lancer dans une grande aventure : gravir la montagne Ohue. Pendant 4 heures de montée intense, entre rires, pauses, et quelques glissades, nous grimpons ensemble jusqu’au sommet. Là-haut, le spectacle est juste époustouflant : ❤️ une vue INCROYABLE sur les deux pitons et le lagon de Bora Bora… un moment suspendu dans le temps. La descente sera tout aussi sportive, mais chaque pas valait la peine.
