We found our DREAM BOAT at the 2021 Annapolis Boat Show when we toured the Antares 44i, Seawind 1600, and Xquisite! Guess which one it was!? These are some high-end, beautiful boats, out of our price range, but one can dream, right?! It was quite difficult to get on the higher end boats. We had to beg, borrow and steal to get an appointment. We were thankful to be allowed onto these three. The Antares was the only one we were allowed to tour ourselves. The other two required someone to be with us at all times. It was not as easy to get detailed footage. But, we did the best we could. We loved the Boat Show and are still living off the high of meeting so many cruisers and channel fans. What a gift to us! Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. Bereits 2018 starteten wir Richtung Wien, doch ein Motorschaden in der Straße von Messina zwang uns, den Überstellungstörn abzubrechen. We now have a nice flat, level surface on the keel timber, stretching from bow to stern (well, just forwards of the sail drive leg location); the rudder is now completely encapsulated and stood out of harms way; and the timbers for the in-the-shed keel construction are roughed out. Moving forwards! This is the story of the building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. Toughest steel hull design is by folded steel aka Origami Method. Brent Swain introduced this method first for sailboats 40 years ago. Not a single Swain Boat has sunk despite collisions with reefs, ships and in the case of a boat named "Mungo" driven ashore in a hurricane off Mexico. The hull design allows for a foamed 2" layering of the entire interior hull surface making a dry and perfectly comfortable liveaboard, great blue water or coastal ship.
