Catran and Michelle go the Contest Boat Yard in Medemblik (The Netherlands), to do a final pre- purchase inspection of our (new to us) Contest 36 Sailboat . We hired an independent surveyor to check over the boat. Michelle gets a little history lesson and learns that the boat was great for the Mediterranean Sea. Esmeralda gets a quick Haul-out for a hull inspection. Do we have Ozmosis? We finish up with a quick engine check of the 39hp Yanmar Inboard engine, and the wind in our hair! In this video we setup our vacuum pump for laminating carbon fiber and fiberglass in a vacuum. Sourcing something like this in Fiji was impossible so we created our own setup using a normal vacuum pump that you'd find in a fridge or air conditioning and combining some other components to make it fit for our purpose. In which I get TONS of work done on Ladybug. I cut out the bow cleats and begin filling the holes in the deck with fiberglass and thickened epoxy, strip the toe rail with Jenn's help, repair my electrical wire self-sabotage, and clean up the distribution panel (a little). We had an unplanned opportunity to sail a Seawind 1160 catamaran. We had booked a 5-day charter on a Seawind 1260 but there was an electrical issue that was not resolved in time. Sail-Away Catamarans ( https://sailawaycatamarans.com/ ) offered up the Seawind 1160 for the day while an electrical specialist came to correct the issue with the 1260. So, with Captain Mike, Toni and I, and daughter Monica, we took “Go Slow” out of the South River, into the Chesapeake Bay and set sail. The winds were strong and true and there was a typical Chesapeake Bay chop. The 1160 took the conditions in stride and we had an exhilarating experience. Once we received word that the electrical issue with the 1260 was corrected, (it was an unknown circuit breaker that tripped), we headed back to Liberty Marina and transferred gear and food to the 1260, where we spent the night for an early start in the morning. We were happy to have had the chance to sail the Seawind 1160 for the day and it exceeded our expectations. It really goes to show that you need to take a boat out to round out the experience and form opinions.

Yes, we’ve been a bit silent, but we’re ok! We just used our time in Garachico to let the feeling of freedom, of not having to go somewhere, simmer. We roamed around, developed new musical skills (ok, Marcel did ;-)), were busy with daily chores, had wonderful evenings with fellow boaties and often we just enjoyed our lives and the nice weather on deck. Very spontaneously we decided to make a surprise trip back home, where we’ve had a wonderful time with our friends and families that we didn’t see for seven months. Back at Zeezot we immediately got into action mode: the remaining water in our tanks had gone foul, so in order to have clean drinking water these had to be cleaned. And enough with going nowhere, the travel jitters kicked in! Our next leg will be a huge one… Have we been at sea for a maximum of four (long!) days so far, in a few weeks we will be out there for over three whole weeks. Exciting!!!!That also means that you’ll again have to wait a bit for our next video, but at least then we have some BIG adventures to share! It truly was an epic time for us as a family, we grew so much, the kids fell in love with this lifestyle and Mick and I were so proud of what we had accomplished. We go up the legal way taking the Moanalua Valley Trail. Our baby passed away this week…everything was so quick, in less than two and a half hours we lost him for these terrible disease called HCM. He was everything to us, our brave sailor! He absolutely loved his life on the boat. The favourite spot was inside the sail bag, he would stay there hours and hours melting under the sun. He new the boat better than us, all the little wholes to hide away. On the rough weather he had a little corner in the cabin, I knew exactly where to go and get him. He was the first one giving us the sign that was a fish on the line, Tuna was his favourite fish. Dobby gave us so much love, we will always remember him, we will always love him. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.

It was a scale down for the Bow Caddy Media team as we followed up our Sydney Hobart coverage with a day’s shooting of the RS Aero event on Pittwater yesterday. A great day on the water with our ever-generous driver Stuart Don, trying his level best not to make waves (literally) in the light airs, while Ron Jacobs gave us an excellent commentary on wind tactics and trimming technique from the bow. The first and second races were sailed in variable and light conditions, but thankfully the third race was held in stronger winds and we caught the fleet in action. Filming a dinghy regatta was a definite change of pace!

I had this clip forgotten from nov21 While free sailing, the wind was blowing erratically. I thought there was enough wind on the surface, but I also noticed there were no ripples on the water... so I guess I'd need a taller model or a stronger wind. Eolo favored me with a strong gust, enough to move the boat...had it not capsized. next time I'll add a coin to the keel fin, or even have a longer one with a counterweight at the bottom.
