To be disabled at sea was unsettling in itself, but when i discovered my boat had a leak once in harbour, self-doubt flooded in. This is an account of what happened on January 15, 2021. With only a 24 hour notice I had to change plans and rather than a 7 nm passage to the neighbouring island I had no choice but to sail 41 NM in a narrow weather window. Half way and while motor sailing, an unused fishing net got caught in my propeller. With time running out and only able to sail at 1 knot under sail, I had to alert the coast guard who came to assist. I did not know at that time that the Shaft Seal had been damaged by the incident and my boat was nearing a catastrophic event. Nos planteamos incluso dejarlo a medias e ir a un hotel a dormir, pero al final después de pensarlo fríamente (nunca mejor dicho) seguimos trabajando hasta las 3 de la mañana y conseguimos dejarlo todo suficientemente listo para sobrevivir la noche. Fiberglass layups are something I recommend everyone tries. Get it right and you'll be a rock star, get it wrong and it can be disastrous. In this video we look at how to fiberglass large holes in this old canoe. This process would work on any boat, you would have to use different glass but the process is the same. We sold our house and most of our belongings to move to a foreign country where our sailboat is currently floating. A missed flight landed us at the TWA Hotel connected to JFK Airport in New York City. We stayed at the Radisson Hotel on Grand Anse Beach in Grenada West Indies waiting for our boat launch date. First time sailing a Catalina 30 in Long Island Sound, NY. This was last year on 2021. There were engine exhaust problems with too much smoke coming out around the seals before we were able to head out. Finally that was fixed.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are finally ready to splash! We throw a solid epoxy barrier coat onto Parlay's hull, then 2 coats of antifoul, and finish up a bunch of last minute jobs before she is finally ready to be launched after 10 months in the shipyard, and another 6 months before that getting worked on in the marina in Linton Bay, Panama. All of our troubles began when we found broken bulkheads on our lagoon 450, and had to figure out how to fix them, to then also get struck by lightning. The plan is to circumnavigate the globe, so we also did some much needed upgrades while we are in the shipyard... SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. They found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are almost ready to cross the Pacific Ocean!! The plans call for a storage area in the forward bunk, but we're sealing it off. ** Improve your energy, immunity, and gut health today - http://athleticgreens.com/mjsailing ** In this week's episode we decide to make our own plans in the forward bunk, and close up an area which is used for storage on all production Max Cruises'. This is the first time we're making a change based on what we want instead of what's in the plans. Deviating out on your own can sometimes mean big challenges as you're faced with finding solutions on your own, but Matt was a champ at templating this oddly shaped area within the boat and it came out looking great. Also, another section we have to address, because back in the summer we 'made alterations' from the original plan to make more room for our engine bed. We still need structural support in that area, so once again Matt needs to make something from scratch to replace the bulkhead which we'd moved further forward.
