Nos yeux se font à l’obscurité, nos cerveaux essaient d’évaluer les distances, mais le mien de cerveau, n’est pas très coopérant ce matin ! J’ai bien l’impression que l’on fonce tout droit sur cet immense yacht ! Évidemment, il n’y a aucun risque, mon capitaine gère à la perfection. Blacky a bien dépassé la poupe du luxueux bâtiment, son cap est pris, direction Virgin Guarda. Lancé au soleil levant sous genack et grand-voile à leur optimum, notre Lion glisse magnifiquement sur une mer d’exception, pourtant ma moitié est nauséeux ! C’était à prévoir, on le sait, pour ne pas être gagné par le mal de mer, il faut partir serein et ne surtout pas être atteins d’un des 4 F ! La Faim, le Froid, la Frousse ou encore la Fatigue, et cette règle inébranlable ne déroge pas pour mon capitaine fatigué de notre nuit soucieuse. Il a cependant sa technique pour remédier à cette légère naupathie, les bonbons à la menthe. Le magnanime de cette traversée est explicable : contrairement aux navigations inter-îles de Grenades jusqu’à Saint Martin, ici, l’Atlantique et l’alizé n’ont pas d’obstacle. Ils progressent aisément. Plus de reliefs, ni de canaux, pour venir perturber cette belle bleue jusqu’à l’approche des British Virgin Island. Elles sont à vue, bien distincts au-dessus de l’horizon qui s’entremêle de l’azur du ciel et du corindon de l’océan. Avec elles, s’en viennent les sargasses qui se sont laissées porter par les courants et qui eux ne manquent pas de s’exprimer ! ... In this short video, we make our way from Key West to Ft. Lauderdale for a quick haul-out before heading to The Bahamas on board our Leopard 45 sailing catamaran The divers who cleaned our boat in St. Petersburg mentioned a potential delimitation issue with our sacrificial keels. We had to get it checked out before spending the next six months in a country where hauling out is not possible. We hope you enjoy the new music from Jason Ricci. During an unexpected gale wind storm a house boat in the marina broke it's dock lines and crashed into us! Our Catamaran sailboat suffered damage but the situation could have been much worse. We haven't had time to make repairs as a new ice storm was quickly approaching! We were faced with the difficult task of sorting out how we would live inboard during a long stretch of below freezing temperatures. The Zeppelin knot has to be one of the best knots to join two line of equal diameter together. Simple to tie the Zeppelin knot has limited reduction in break strain of the the rope while being super easy to untie even after heavy load has been applied to the knot. The characteristics above make the Zeppelin knot our to choice when joining to ropes together, making it better than the sheet bends and fisherman's knots. Giovanni Soldini pulled off a great navigation coup, and cut out his rivals, Power Play and Argo, to burst Maserati across the finishing line ahead of them. The other big news was Comanche with Aussie, Mitch Booth, heading an international crew, who took 2 Days off the Monohull record to now hold it for both the Atlantic speed record going West to East, and East to West. We have a full report from the RORC. Meanwhile Sail Melbourne continued in sunny, windy conditions on Port Phillip Bay. The 49ers were one class where a countback was required to anoint Tom Needham and Joel Turner winners, ahead of Jim Colley and Shaun Connor after they finished locked on 35 points. Western Australian Institute of Sport athlete Zoe Thomson put in a commanding performance in her ILCA 6 class win, closely followed by Tokyo Olympian Mara Stransky. Meanwhile the first race for 2022 saw Race 6 of their New South Wales Championships held last weekend on Sydney Harbour. The third race win of the New South Wales 18ft Skiff Championship went to the Tech2 team of Jack Macartney, Charlie Wyatt and Lewis Brake, putting it into the equal lead of the series with just two more races to be sailed. Yandoo (John Winning, Mike Kennedy and Fang Warren) went into the race with a slender one point advantage over Tech2 but couldn't quite match her rival's overall speed in the 16-19 knot southerly winds and had to settle for second place.

Depois de reiterar por muitos anos que nunca teria um animal na minha casa, uma cadela pariu na porta da minha residência e fui "obrigado" a cuidar da mãe e de dois filhores. Não gostava desse bicho. Mas, a partir do sétimo mês de idade notei que o macho (o THOR) era muito apegado comigo. Então comecei a leva-lo diariamente nas minhas caminhadas. Criou-se, entre nós, uma amizade muito bonita e elogiada por pessoas amantes dos pets. Com o tempo, de forma natural e impeceptível, o cão passou a me obedecer em muita coisa, Inclisive não atravessandoa rua sem minha ordem. No mês que completei 66 anos, e o Thor 2,5 anos, por insistênica de amigos e principalmente da minha filha, comprei minha primeira bicicleta da vida. Quando fui pedalar a primeira vez meu corção partiu ao deixar meu amigo. Tentei coloco-lo no guidão, mas ele é grande e eu muito barbeiro. Então encostei a bike e não andei enquanto não comprei um reboque para puxá-lo. Como sou aventureiro por natureza, resolvi criar um desafio: sair de Morrinhos, GO, e chegar até Paraty, RJ, onde mora minha filha. We are refitting a 44 year old Rival 38 for a Sustainable Sailing retirement in a few years. Two years ago, when we bought Vida she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings. We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all electric (motor, cooking etc). Now that the inside is dry (thanks to new windows, new hatches and leak chasing) we are fitting her out for live-aboard world cruising.
