City Sailing video on towing. Essential for Royal Yachting Association Day Skipper Day Skipper Courses as well as RYA Yachtmaster and Coastal Courses. We explain the lights and shapes on the vessels towing and being towed. When a vessel is towing another vessel or object, it is important to display the appropriate lights and shapes to indicate its size, direction, and activity to other vessels in the area. Similarly, vessels being towed must also display specific lights and shapes to alert other vessels of their presence and movements. Here are some of the lights and shapes commonly used on vessels that are towing or being towed: Lights on Towing Vessels: Two masthead lights: A vessel that is towing another vessel or object must display two masthead lights, one above the other, with the lower light being the forward light. These lights indicate the size and direction of the towing vessel to other vessels in the area. Stern light: A towing vessel must also display a stern light, which should be visible from behind the vessel. This light helps other vessels determine the length of the towing vessel and the object being towed as well as the extra orange light to show the vessel is towing. Shapes on Towing Vessels: Diamond shape: A vessel that is towing another vessel or object must display a diamond shape during the day. This shape indicates that the vessel is restricted in its ability to maneuver and should be given a wide berth. Lights on Vessels Being Towed: Stern light: A vessel that is being towed must display a stern light, which should be visible from behind the vessel. This light helps other vessels determine the length of the vessel being towed. Shapes on Vessels Being Towed: Diamond shape: A vessel that is being towed must display a diamond shape during the day. This shape indicates that the vessel is restricted in its ability to maneuver and should be given a wide berth. It's important for all vessels to be aware of the lights and shapes used by vessels that are towing or being towed, as they are essential for maintaining safety on the water. These lights and shapes help other vessels determine the size, direction, and activity of the towing and towed vessels, so they can take appropriate action to avoid collisions and other dangerous situations. This will help you in your RYA Day Skipper and Yachtmaster exams Please watch our other videos to help you with our courses. How to adjust the length of the Rescue Sling so that the sling and the MOB Lifesaver are the same length and the casualty is brought out horizontally. Different lifejakcets have different lengths of lifting beckets and so the Rescue Sling length needs to be adjusted to match that of the MOB Lifesaver attached to the lifting becket.

Our last part of the Atlantic Ocean sailing. Up to Panama from Aruba in 5 days. The video is all sailing and being on the ocean. Sailing slow, sailing fast and just sailing great. I left the sound as it is. There is wind in the microphone, that said, you also hear wind in your ears if you sail. At least you can hear the water and waves as they are. Yes there are dolphins too, lots of them. It was a great sailing trip. Made in November 2021 on Snow our Sparkman and Stephens Swan 431 from 1976. Great cruising ship for a couple but we are bias.

Hello! In this video we start making our way out of the Balearics where we've been chilling out for the Summer and we start making our way out WEST! We speedily sail down the coast of Spain to try and get out of the Mediterranean as fast as we can to start our next chapter: prepping to cross the Atlantic. Lots of sailing, a few stops along the way and places visited. We sadly lose our camera to a wave breaking in the cockpit and make it back to where we started our season off: Almerimar. But not to stay for very long this time :) Thanks for watching! Now we are almoust home! Last 100 miles to Deale, Maryland. We sail from Virginia Beach to Norfolk and up the Chesapeake Bay. A big thank you to my old friend and sailing buddy, Andrey, for keeping it cool, for his company, insights, commitment, joy, all his help, and a very positive attitude to all hardships we've endure! :) Big hug, my friend!! Also, a big thanks to Quantum Sails for the Main, Genoa, Gennaker and Code 0 sails! I love em all :) And a very special "Thank You!" for one of my favorite artists - Hubert Kah and this amazing soundtrack - "Engel 07".

This week I've had bad news with insurance, but thankfully coffee was on hand to make everything better. Then mum and I pumped out the engine bay which had a layer of water sitting in it after all those storms, a condition that will be forever known as Bilge Disease. Tune in next week for an insurance update - spoiler alert - it's good news ;)
