Months of planning and preparation are complete and we're off the dock and cruising again! Topped up with veggies and fruit we immediately depart Bocas Del Toro for the San Blas Islands. En-route we end up in BlueField Lagoon, a little known but very calm and peaceful lagoon in the middle of no where. We're immediately swarmed by Cayucos who are excited and surprised to see us. They sell us lobster, and ask for pencils and books for their kids. I decide to take a picture with our instant camera and word spreads like wild fire! Before we know it Delos is swarmed by cayucos all wanting to have their photo taken. The Coconut Telegraph is in full effect and word is spreading FAST :) Right up until I run out of instant camera film. With a myriad of choices on the market today it can be hard to pick the right sailing foul weather gear. Many manufacturers focus on waterproofness, breathability, and visibility, but the cheaper manufacturers don't tend to optimize their designs for draining water from the liner and pockets. In this video we demonstrate how much water a cheap PVC foul weather suit can retain versus a more expensive Gore-Tex jacket designed specifically to shed water from the liner and pockets. That may not seem like a big deal, but it could literally mean the difference between life and death if you fall in the water. One day we woke up to what it looked like some stinky oil spill - so we hurried up to get out - 15 NM north next to world famous Cokes break. We anchored next to newly built/ reclaimed island that will probably soon become another well manicured Maldives resort, that looks just like a paradise with $4000 per night rooms... Pretty interesting how they build those new islands! After we go to Thulusdhoo - just around the corner to find a truly spectacular place we did't wanted to leave. We meet lovely people, took a taxi boat to a Bar Boat - became a tourist for a night and had some fun. Next we were invited to dinner by @SamuraMaldives resort by the owner.... Amazing... After waiting for the tides to be timed better in the day, we return to Raft Point in preparation for the trip to Montgomery Reef. Heading off just before sunrise we catch the start of the outgoing tide and witness the amazing spectacle of the world's largest inshore reef being transformed by some of the biggest tidal changes on Earth. In an amazing spectacle, the coral reef appears to rise from the ocean in a torrent of cascading water creating hundreds of miniature waterfalls. Op Porto Santo nemen we helaas weer afscheid van ons crewlid Chloé. We verkennen de omgeving en genieten van de euforie van de eerste oceaanoversteek. In de haven treffen diverse zeilers waarmee we met enige regelmaat een gezellige avond hebben. Uiteraard is er onderweg weer van alles stuk gegaan, dus we doen ook de nodig klussen zodat Eva in topconditie blijft. Ze moet ons nog veel verder brengen. We hebben een prima tijd achter ons anker in Porto Santo! Jarenlang heb ik ervan gedroomd om zeilend te gaan waar de wind me brengt. In 2020 was het dan eindelijk zover en heb ik samen met Felia een prachtige reis gemaakt naar Scandinavië en de Baltische staten. Onze Eva, een Atlantic 43 uit 2007, is een aluminium zeiljacht met hefkiel en gebouwd en uitgerust voor reizen naar plaatsen die net achter de horizon liggen. Vanaf 2021 vaar ik met wisselende bemanning zuidwaarts. Ik vind het leuk om onze avonturen met jullie te delen.
