A competição de vela oceânica será a segunda da equipe a bordo do barco Soto 40, um dos mais vitoriosos do país. A estreia ocorreu na última semana, na Copa IC Santos - Regata Volta Ilha das Cabras, no Guarujá (SP), quando a tripulação realizou o batismo do veleiro. Em um aquecimento para a temporada, a equipe ficou em terceiro lugar na classe ORC, fazendo percurso de 20 milhas náuticas em pouco mais de três horas. O também S40 Phytoervas 4Z conquistou o título. A Copa Mitsubishi, organizada pelo Yacht Club de Ilhabela (YCI) com patrocínio da Mitsubishi Motors, terá na disputa três veleiros de competição do tipo S40. Além do Inaê Soto Amstel Ultra, as equipes Phytoervas 4Z e King contarão com o mesmo modelo de barco e prometem travar uma disputa emocionante nas águas de Ilhabela.

Come along in this episode of Sailing SV CUBA as we have a hair-raising experience, crossing the Lefkada-Canal and make it to one of the most stunning beaches of the Ionian Sea. We left our entrance port, Preveza behind and sail south to take on the challenge of passing through the Lefkada-Canal, a 3.5-mile-long passage that has been dredged between the island of Lefkada and mainland Greece. To pass through the narrow canal sailing boats and motor yachts have to wait for the swiveling car bridge to move out of the way once per hour. Then vessels get a quick chance to pass through before the bridge closes once again, so everyone on board is hurrying to get through. The canal is very shallow in places and we are also experiencing strong westerly winds throughout, making the journey a tricky one from the start. With cars and boats seemingly passing each other at arm’s length, we make it to the other side, where we are met with absolutely perfect sailing conditions as the wind picks up as we are passing Atokos and Meganisi. Luckily for the wind is bringing us exactly towards our friends Mark and Marie, who we met over a year ago in Malta. They are on their way sailing through Greece all the way to New Zealand but we are on a mission to catch them before they start their herculean journey back home. Little did we know, we did not just manage to see our friends but also dropped anchor in one of the top beaches of the Ionian Sea, or maybe one of the most beautiful beaches of all of Greece and found Yacht Haven. Having sailed our yacht from Spain to Porto in Portugal we explore this beautiful place with it’s amazing architecture and bustling city vibe. We taste Port wine and explore the traditional fisherman’s village and community laundry still used by the women and head in to the city to see all that’s on offer. We then take a road trip up the magnificent Douro Valley famed for its terraced vineyards where the grapes are grown for the port wine. Whilst on our trip we take the opportunity to walk across the world’s longest and highest pedestrian suspension bridge!!! just is a small project I did with my BF 28 milling machine. It is a little sharpening jig for a bench grinder. This attachment helps to sharpen drill bits and to grind lathe tools. A bench grinder tool rest is very helpful to set a vertical angle but this grinder jig also helps to set the horizontal angle. This is very helpful to grind customize lathe tool bits.

Not just any log, but a rare Huon Pine log, felled 40 years earlier from a tree estimated at 1,000 years old. Thats what Derek Shields set out to do, with no background in boat building. After years sailing on other peoples yachts, he had found a John Muir design in 1982 and he decided to build it. 3 years and thousands of hours later, ‘Sagan’ was launched. Following Sagan’s launch, Derek set off on an adventure that took him up the east coast of Australia and across the Indian Ocean to Africa where he spent 10 months travelling through 17 different countries by road. Derek’s shares his sailing story in the tranquil setting of the Gordon River It's an amazing tale of setbacks and perseverance. In this episode, we continue showing Marlee and Scott our sailing lifestyle. We visit a nearby village in Kusapin and go for a waterfall hike guided by one of the local children. With not much time left, we continue on to Dolphin Bay where we experience the most wonderful snorkeling under the mangroves and visit a chocolate farm.
