Wings II is a custom built sailing and adventure catamaran, designed by Angelo Lavranos. Originally built to charter in Auckland, New Zealand ... but after discovering the beautiful Whitsundays she crossed the ditch and made a home for herself in Airlie Beach. Built for Sailing and stability Wings II vessel is the perfect Sailing catamaran at 50ft long she is very spacious inside & fully air conditioned. There are three areas inside for comfortable seating, large galley area, flat screen TV/DVD player and 4 main hull cabin areas. Recently having an extensive refit the vessel will offer 2 forward guest ensuite staterooms and 2 aft private double cabins. A large part of your time on any cruise or charter is spent at anchor. Multihulls have large deck space and Wings II is no lightweight here either with over 125 sq/m of deck space there's enough room to get lost. Angelo Lavranos is a great boat designer and Wings II is a great social boat with an open helm area and large foredeck, net trampoline areas with a great open aft deck / Weber BBQ area. We like to think of this boat as the great sailing entertainer and she's my favourite boat for an afternoon sail on the bay with a large or small group of friends.

In this episode we go into the detail necessary to create a reliable, robust navigational system onboard. You MUST be self reliant to be offshore in our view. Our setup doesn't appear convenient at first, however the further you sail, it will be for reasons explained in the video. We replaced the radar dome as the 4g unit failed also. Since writing the VHF has also failed from BandG along with our GPS sensor. So you get the picture here folks...... We write from safety now in Costa Rica and next episode we will explore the dangers and the solutions we had on the navigation to Costa Rica. For those interested to replicate this setup: Linksys 5g router, Navico Halo 20 (resentfully purchased). Cat 5 crimper and cables to make new rj45 connection. Opencpn software https://opencpn.org/ You must install the radar Pi plugin as part of the opencpn plugins section and connect your computer to the new 5g network you created over wifi. Put the radar cable into the router. Also, you will need a fairly decent cpu or GPU in your laptop or desktop to run the radar over wifi. Ilhabela, Brazil, is a great island with so many different places. We started this week in Saco do Sombrio, where we got 150 squids, and we sailed back to Saco da Capela. We explore the Island of Ilhabela a little bit and then we drove to Guarujá to fix our rudder quadrant and we visited some good friends, Reginaldo, Fred and Ramiro and Gika from Força Maior. Roberta cut our friend's hair and we learned how to clean and cook a fish called Baiacu Arara, that is a delicious fish. Matt and I are moving on to our first big construction project of our own, and that's our daggerboard cases. These are around 9 feet tall and 2.5 feet wide, and will sit on each side of our hull. Now that the weather is in the mid 50's (F) we have the perfect situation to be able to build them. Because each half required 8 layers of glass and around 130 oz of resin, we want to make sure we're familiar with the process, and do one test round on a miniature. Which turns out great!!! Then on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, we go to do the real thing. And - everything was going great!!!! - until it was time to add the vacuum pump to suck out all the extra air and compress the glass together. That's when things cracked and fell apart on us. #144 ✍️Les nuages blancs se reflètent sur l’eau au repos. La perspective est apaisante, pleine de profondeur. L’unique ponton de Puerto Blanco, fait la marina. Éloignés de toute affluence touristique, nous sommes directement dans la campagne. Ça sent la bouse de vache, l’herbe fraiche, la terre. Les oiseaux gazouillent, les arbres font de belles allées et les prairies rappellent le terroir ! Les informations sur la ville elle-même, ne sont pas si évidentes à glaner. Luperon est plutôt connue par son nom pour ses villages balnéaires voisins, elle, reste oubliée des touristes, ce qui lui conserve tout son charme ! Des cases au toit de tôle, des murs teintés, une place dallée, une statue de Gregorio Luperón acclamé comme un héros national pendant la guerre de restauration contre l’Espagne, et le tour de la ville est terminée. Pour nous, voyageurs en bateau, son emplacement est idéal car sa baie fermée offre un excellent abri et les mangroves qui l’entourent sont une merveille à l’état quasi sauvage. Demain, nous commencerons à les explorer avec nos amis, Charly et Isa. Ils nous ont rejoint pour une semaine. C’est court, mais nous avons le bonheur de les revoir… Les vagues se brisent, se pulvérisent sur la roche tranchante, montrent toute leur puissance dans un souffleur jaillissant. C’est tellement beau, l’océan respire et nous permet de l’admirer. Sur l’autre versant, l’ambiance est plus calme, le soleil se couche… Nos balades nous mènent sur les lieux d’un hôtel abandonné, toutes ses archives au sol ! Que s’est-il passé, un cyclone, un tsunami, de l’argent mal placé ? Triste de voir une telle structure laissée à la désolation, mais que c’est beau de voir la nature reprendre ses droits. Les endroits paisibles ne manquent pas. Plus au nord de notre mouillage, la côte reste indomptée et bien plus loin encore, accessible par la route, La Isabela recèle un parc archéologique, celui de la deuxième ville fondée dans le Nouveau Monde par les Espagnols. Christophe Colomb y choisi d’y établir sa maison, la seule qu’il possèdera en « Amérique ». Perchés sur la falaise qui domine l’Atlantique, à hauteur des ruines, nous faisons un retour de 500 ans dans le passé… Les caravelles emplissent la baie, le Rio Bajabonico est tout près, la cité grouille… Encore plus nord, Punta Rucia s’est fait une réputation. Disons plutôt que les tours opérateurs y ont trouvé un filon avec un marketing alléchant : authentique et quasiment secret, ce petit port de pêche vit au rythme de la nature et du soleil ! C’était certainement le cas, il y a quelques années…Avant l’implantation de ces hôtels ! Dans un registre plus citadin, Puerto Plata, capitale de la province du même nom, reçoit, en ce mois de février, ses visiteurs, aux couleurs du carnaval et au son du merengue. Les bâtisses coloniales à l’architecture victorienne du XIXe sont parait-il, le plus grand ensemble, le mieux conservé des Caraïbes et la Fortaleza San Felipe, reste une pièce clé de l’histoire de la ville. Construite au XVIe siècle pour défendre des pirates, la côte nord de la République Dominicaine, riche en or et argent, elle est considérée comme l’une des plus importantes structures militaires coloniales de la zone. Nos amis viennent de nous quitter et notre séjour Dominicain tire à sa fin. Prochaine destination, les Bahamas ! Rien que le nom fait rêver. Les rumeurs propagées annonçant des tarifs exorbitants sur place, nous voulons tout prévoir, afin d’être autonomes au moins trois mois. Et pour ça, un avitaillement digne de nom est obligatoire ! With a crew injury on board, our departure for Panama from Martinique with the GLY500 world Odyssey was delayed. We left the day after the fleet of boats, and the wind had died. We wrap up our time on our catamaran on Cat Island in the Bahamas sailing in the pristine bay on the west side of the island. We then press our luck with the waves and decide to turn around and sail back to where we started when things get rough. We also spend time exploring a mangrove river and hidden blue hole, then wrap things up with a get-together onshore to sample some local food, drinks, and music at a rake and scrape.
