This episode gives snapshots of our sailing journey to Crete.

On Faial we make landfall after 29 days crossing the Atlantic from the Bahamas to the Azores making it to Horta, the 3rd most visited harbor by yacht numbers worldwide! Sailors meet in the middle of the Atlantic coming and heading into all different directions…but before must come together for a gin at Peter Café Sport – an institution with a long tradition. Hills, inlets, formations resulting from volcanic activity increasing the island’s size, picturesque green pastures and the mass of hydrangeas dividing the fields and lining along the roadsides give Faial the name of Ilha Azul, the blue island – its caldera often hidden in misty thick fog. What a mystic and authentic place! It is an island where animals seem to communicate and dance with and for us – possibly the happiest cows we've met in Europe? Tradition says that sailors must make a painting on the marina wall in Horta to insure their safe return before leaving. So we do! And we roadtrip. Enjoy this long one!

THIS WEEK: We have had an amazing couple of weeks Sailing Northern Exumas and visiting Allans Cay to see some Iguanas, Longs Cay to escape an Easterly, Shroud Cay for some excellent kayaking, and finally on to Staniel Cay where, yes, we stopped at Piggy Beach. And Chris made THE BEST Conch Fritters! Here is his recipe: (music credits below recipe, check em out!) ***We started with two large conch and then used what we had on hand. Improvisation! Cut and tenderized using a meat mallet. Marinade overnight (or minimum 3 hours) in lemon juice, white wine, black pepper, fresh thyme, and a pinch of salt. In a food processor, pulse until fine, the conch (and the marinade juice), onion, garlic, cayenne, carrot, tomato, hot peppers (whatever you have), and fresh thyme. In a mixing bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and beer, then add in processed conch mix and stir until a loose, sticky paste forms. We had to add in about 1/2 cup more flour to absorb liquids and firm up the batter. Heat oil and carefully spoon in a fritter size dollop and cook for 5 minutes rotating the fritter every minute for an even cook. Extract, cool and eat! Prepare: 2 conch 3 oz lemon juice 3 oz white wine Teaspoon black pepper Pinch of sea salt 2 sprigs fresh thyme Process: Conch marinaded contents 1 tablespoon pickled red onion 4 cloves of honey fermented garlic Pinch of cayenne powder 1/3 cup diced carrot 1/2 cup canned tomato 2 honey fermented hot peppers 1 teaspoon fresh thyme Batter: 1 1/2 cups flour 3/4 teaspoon baking powder 1/3 can of beer (4 oz) Join us and dont forget to SUBSCRIBE to follow all our adventures. We are finally getting around to finishing some sailboat restoration projects and one that had been on my list for a while was finishing the installation of the lazy jack. Now I had partially installed it when we installed the new lights and wiring on the mast. So I had a few hours to spare so I decided to tackle it and finish it. I want to thank Dan & Kika from Sailing Uma. I have been a Patreon of theirs for a while and Dan had posted a few years back the design for their lazy jack since Uma and Reverie have very similar mast height I boom length, I was able to use the design strait of their page and was able to make and installed our new lazy jack, Hope you enjoy this short episode.
