MUST WATCH TOPIC: I get asked many times a week what the proper way to sand freshly applied gelcoat without sanding through. If you think I've never sanded through you'd be WRONG. Over the years I have adapted a technique to make sure I never sand through my gelcoat again. In this video I'll show you that technique. When it comes to Buffing slow and steady wins the race. I really like the total buff from #totalboat, but there are many other great products, like 3M which I do use from time to time. The total buff is much better for sanding out scratches, and the 3M is a little better for removing oxidation. If your looking for a great boat wax the stuff from TB is probably the best on the market, and provides lasting protection. When it comes to repairing your boat this step is always the hardest. Sanding and buffing gelcoat is much harder than buffing out some spray painted; paint on your car and just remember folks you need to buff and wax your boat every year! Soon after launch I was rocked by some serious wind. I heard wind that Iv'e never heard before. This specific geographic location is temperamental and changes fast. It can be very unpredictable at times... this is one of those times.

First activation of the new update SoTa spots in north of Norway. We sailed out to this Island Skrova. The weatherforecast was not that good. But We found an opening to go to the top inbetween the clouds. Though it got late and 20 m band closed there was lokal stations on 80 and 40 meter QrV.

We left San Francisco Bay to continue our passage down the US West Coast, cruising the Channel Islands on our way. From remote and rugged San Miguel Island, to the charming town on Avalon on Catalina Island, we were continually surprised by how great the cruising was on these desert California islands. Eventually we worked our way down to the Mexican border, poised for the next big step in our adventure. Julia is an Atkin designed Ingrid ketch. We took our mom to Maui to enjoy the whales and celebrate Anthony's 50th Birthday! We enjoyed some amazing whale watching with Makai Adventures and enjoyed scuba diving both from shore and out with Mike Severns Diving. Truly an unforgettable week making memories :)

It was a difficult decision for us to make; not crossing the Atlantic Ocean in early 2022, but to postpone and go only after this summer. But with the decision to stay we also have the opportunity to deep dive into the Canaries (not literally, as the water is so much more chilly than it is in the Caribbean :-)). We explored every corner of La Gomera, spending way more time than ‘sailors on a schedule’ usually have. Therefore we kind of lost the feeling of traveling. Instead it feels more like our new lifestyle: living aboard Zeezot, climbing every mountain, smelling all the flowers we encounter during our walks, leaving footprints on all beaches. In this episode we share some of our ‘little chunks of happiness’ with Linda who visits us (remember her from Portugal?). After she leaves we feel ready for a new island… La Palma here we come! And La Palma for us just is paradise. Nature on this island is so incredibly diverse, abundant and amazing. Fruit trees everywhere you look (with yummy avocados, oranges and nispero’s (Japanese loquat)), countless flowers blossoming in yellow, purple, pink,…, rain forests with waterfalls, wild and abandoned beaches, volcanoes, pine forests. And above all that you can find the cutest and colourful houses fringing the narrow cobbled streets of the capital Santa Cruz. In short: we fell in love with the island. And we seriously discuss to take all the savings for our journey, buy a small cute finca with some surrounding fruit trees and stay on La Palma forever. Watch to see what will be our decision... However, we strongly advise you to go visit the island to absorb the beauty yourself as pictures and videos just don’t do justice to the abundance you will find here. Travessia FLORIPA POA em um veleiro oceânico de 41 pés #FOCONOALS Este vídeo mostra um pouco do que foi a travessia de Florianópolis a Porto Alegre. Foram 3 dias no mar e dois dias na lagoa. Nas horas iniciais do primeiro dia o mar estava bem balançado com um vento contra... mas no fim da tarde o vento começou a melhorar a direção e a força. De um través foi para um vento em popa assim que raiou o segundo dia. O vento se manteve médio a forte, variando de 15 a 30 nós durante toda a travessia em mar aberto. Velejada alucinante do início ao fim. O terceiro dia amanheceu com o sol tímido e tanto o mar como o vento perderam força justamente na hora de entrar nos molhes de RIO GRANDE. A entrada no canal foi suave... fomos direto ao yacht clube Rio Grande para reabastecer as energias, comer tranquilo e tomar aquele bom banho. No mesmo dia já seguimos para o yacht clube em Pelotas, entrando no canal de São Gonçalo para adiantar algumas horinhas de travessia. Clube maravilhoso, silêncio, noite bem dormida depois de 3 dias no mar... No quarto dia ja acordamos bem cedo e saímos rumo ao nosso destino final, Porto Alegre. A velejada na lagoa sempre é diferente do que no mar, balança bem menos.... mas na lagoa dos patos sempre bate um vento forte e tem uma grande frota de navios cargueiros que trafegam na região, ou seja, tripulação sempre em alerta máximo!!! Saímos do canal de São Gonçalo, entramos na lagoa dos patos com um vento fraco contra mas a medida que o dia foi passando o vento começou a ficar de través e aumentos drasticamente a intensidade... uma saída com 2 nós de vento aparente passa a 25 nós no final do dia... um pôr do sol maravilhoso e uma velejada incrível com o céu estrelado e uma lua minguante dando as caras no meio da noite, turno de ouro... Chegamos no Farol de Itapuã já pela manhã do quinto dia e no Iate Clube Jangadeiros pelo meio dia... com aquela sensação de felicidade e realização indescritível. This is Episode 30 of our adventure. The day before launch goes well as we get the last of the jobs ticked off. The day of the however and things start to go wrong, things happen that we hadn't planned for. The launch itself brings other problems that force us to think on our feet. Luckily we had a great team of people on hand to help. We experienced, excitement, panic, anxiety, hope and good fortune. Was the good fortune our own making? was the panic and anxiety only natural? We take time to reflect and realise that maybe the launch did go well it is all a matter of perspective. We are a family of five with plans for an epic adventure, sailing around the world.
