Designing the panels to surround Mistress' engine bay has been an enjoyable challenge and having taken the time in the design stages, I get made up what I think should be a great outcome. I then move on to epoxy coating all of these 12 panels, which once they were all packed together, to me they looked like a "priceless pile" of panels! What a RELIEF getting these made up and coated! Mistress is designed by one of the highly respected Dutch naval arcitects E.G. Van de Stadt, a Caribbean design, length 40ft/12m, beam 13ft/3.9m, draft 5ft/1.5m. Her hull and decks are built in mild steel and I have built her on my own and am also fitting her out on my own. I have not built any type of boat before Mistress. There were many reasons why, but the work stopped,... However, the work has re-started, thankfully, and I am on an exciting journey to finish Mistress and then go on my sailing adventures,... BOAT LIFE - Will We Ever Be Able to LIVE FROM THE SEA??? | Harbors Unknown Ep. 65 Like a dangling cluster of fruit, 30 cays known as the Berry Islands, dot the eastern edge of the Great Bahama Bank. Unspoiled, serene and mostly uninhabited, they are known for white-sand beaches, palm-fringed shores, blue holes, and near some islands, prolific fishing grounds. We’re looking forward to disconnecting, exploring, and continuing our quest to live from the land or rather the ocean, spearfishing and collecting conch. We try to begin each day aboard Wanderlust with a workout, then we take Yoda to shore for a walk. We often thank Yoda for taking us for a walk, because without her we wouldn’t go nearly as much. She forces us to take time for a simple pleasure like walking on the beach and I enjoy them so much. After Yoda had her playtime on the beach we felt ok leaving her for a little bit to see if we could catch some fish or find some conch. The whole living from the sea concept was proving to be quite a bit more challenging than we expected. At this point we figure it must be a game of odds. The more we fish the more likely we’ll catch something. Or at least that’s what we’re hoping for. To find a spot, Fabio jumps in the water and I drag him with the dinghy until he sees something worth investigating. We’re able to cover much more ground this way. Part 2 of our Atlantic crossing - St Helena Island ☀️🐠 Happily, we can say that the trip following the storm went beautifully - baptism by fire initially and then about 12 days of absolute bliss. We had a fair share of semi rough nights, but what we had just come through meant that we appreciated the good conditions even more. All ‘conditions’ going forward were benchmarked against our first 5 days, so we pretty much appreciated any conditions at this stage🤣 Starry nights, the silence of the ocean, and the fact that we had now outrun the cold of the lower Atlantic meant that we were starting to peel off the layers of clothes and started feeling like we were headed to the tropics finally. We caught some amazing fish, saw beautiful bioluminescence in the ocean at night and just really loved our time at sea. There was huge excitement when we knew that we should be coming within sight of St Helena and the completion was on to see who saw it first. We had tried to time our arrival at the island in daylight. Mother Nature definitely had other plans as usual and pushed us up against the island whilst we were trying our best to slow down. We stayed well clear, based on the chart plotter because the night was so dark and on the approach we were making, the island doesn’t have any marker lights. As the sun rose, there she was!! Jurassic looking with huge rocky cliff faces coming downto the ocean. Green and lush above. She was a real sight for sailors that hadn’t seen land for 18 days, we were pretty exhausted and dreamed of being on a buoy where we didn’t have to analyze the conditions, wind and best of all, be able to sleep through the night, all at the same time. The watches wear you out, no matter how good they had been of recent. Best of all we knew we were going to be seeing Denver again too. There had been very minimal contact with him through the trip so we were excited to catch up again. On arrival at St Helena we were officially in quarantine 😔 and by St Helena rules we were not allowed to disembark the yacht or ‘fraternize’ with other boats until we had been ‘Covid cleared’. The authorities only did Covid tests on Thursdays so we were boat bound for 3 days until Friday when we finally got the Covid results and we were cleared to go ashore - but best of all, Denver was able to come across to us and that first hug was awesome. The next week flew by, we did a bit of touristy stuff, most notably we braved climbing Jacobs Ladder - a staircase that runs directly up the cliff face above the anchorage. It’s 699 large steps and is quite an accomplishment to complete. The views from the top are amazing. It was actually harder coming down, and we did pay for it over the next few days. Walking was pure torture for the next 3 days. Jamestown is stunning, old and quaint, the residents of St Helena (called Saints) are some of the friendliest people we have ever met. The history of the island is super interesting for anyone that enjoys history. The dinghy dock is not for the faint hearted, with most yachties making use of the very convenient ferry service. The water around St Helena was exactly what we had experienced all the way across the Atlantic, a deep blue that is hard to describe and crystal clear!! We were in 15m of water when on the buoy and we could see the sand below the boat. The fish that came visit were amazing, we felt like we were in an aquarium looking through glass. Of course the highlight of the stay was experiencing our hour long swim with first one, and then a second Devil Ray. What interactive creatures, we could see them looking directly at us as the circled, almost in slow motion. They just circled and went under us, so close that we had to lift our feet to avoid touching them. It was an experience that will stay with us for life. Sadly, time had passed and it was time to say goodbye and head toward Brazil.

We leave Dampier and head out the shipping channel, radioing VTS and avoiding an incoming ship before heading to Norbill Bay on Rosemary Island before sailing to the Montebello Islands. While waiting for a weather window, we have a dive and catch a few nice painted cray and a couple coral trout. After an early morning start, we sail across to the Montebello's, through the very shallow Faraday Channel before anchoring in Chianti Bay on Alpha Island ready to explore this remote wilderness. Not flashy just fast & sea-worthy. I really can’t get across how beautifully she sails. Without exaggeration: the helm is perfectly balanced. I have enjoyed her sailing, single handed, from sitting on the cross trees half way up the mast, or hanging off the dolphin striker, perfectly confident the would hold her course, unattended. GLAD TIDINGS is really one of a kind in Australia. She never failed to receive compliments on the water, but more importantly never once misbehaved. I used to push her hard, under staysail & double reefed main in strong winds. Never a problem, always predictable. She carries her way, so picking up a mooring single handed was always easy.

Em cada parada, os velejadores farão palestras abordando a história da ONG, a cultura náutica itajaiense, o desenvolvimento sustentável e a economia azul para o público local. “Queremos que esse projeto leve o nome da ANI e de Itajaí para outros municípios brasileiros que também desenvolvem o mundo náutico. A associação tem 20 anos de história e é um exemplo de práticas educativas e sustentáveis não só para a cidade, mas para o país inteiro.”, afirmou o ex-presidente da Associação Náutica e coordenador da Expedição ANI pelo Brasil, Claudio Copello. Durante as travessias, a equipe irá participar de duas competições importantes do calendário da vela oceânica brasileira. A primeira, Regata Aratu-Maragojipe, e a segunda, Regata Refeno (Recife-Fernando de Noronha). Além disso, o projeto prevê vagas para travessias divididas entre os 15 pontos de paradas. Endlich ist es so weit, wir gehen wieder auf Tour! Lange haben wir auf Lanzarote in der Marina Arrecife gelegen. Wir haben uns dort sehr wohl gefühlt. Der Hafen ist absolut sicher und bietet besten Schutz vor allen möglichen Wetterereignissen. So konnten wir Mola Mola auch beruhigt hier liegen lassen, als wir einige Zeit in Deutschland waren. Aber nun sind wir gespannt, wie wir nach Madeira kommen... aber seht selbst, wie es uns ergangen ist! Viel Spass! Vielleicht laßt ihr einen Daumen hoch und ein Abo da. Voor de feestdagen blijven we op Tenerife en Felia komt aan boord. Gezamenlijk maken we een kerstdiner met wat we hebben en we genieten van het vuurwerk in de haven. Met een huurauto rijden we langs alle highlights van het eiland. Patrick schaft een bijna professionele hengel aan waarmee de aanvoer van verse vis tijdens overtochten gegarandeerd moet zijn. Met oud- en nieuw bakken we volgens traditie oliebollen. Dit keer op de steiger in de haven. We nemen afscheid van Anita. Jord, Lars en Naomi komen aan boord. Samen maken we een stevige wandeling de vulkaan op. Jarenlang heb ik ervan gedroomd om zeilend te gaan waar de wind me brengt. In 2020 was het dan eindelijk zover en heb ik samen met Felia een prachtige reis gemaakt naar Scandinavië en de Baltische staten. Onze Eva, een Atlantic 43 uit 2007, is een aluminium zeiljacht met hefkiel en gebouwd en uitgerust voor reizen naar plaatsen die net achter de horizon liggen. Vanaf 2021 vaar ik met wisselende bemanning zuidwaarts. Ik vind het leuk om onze avonturen met jullie te delen.
