Minha volta da Ilha dos Frades foi assim, cozinhando em cima da prancha com meu fogareiro de camping. Não foi proposital fazer isso mas me senti seguro. E claro, curioso pra saber como seria a experiência de fazer algo assim já que vou dormir embarcado em uma prancha (um pouco maior). #ilhadosfrades Cozinhar uma calabresa em 20 minutos foi o suficiente pra ver que é possível. Mas tem que ter o mar tranquilo que normalmente é onde ancoramos. Ancoragens batidas seria com mau tempo que é uma das coisas que não pretendo fazer. Se por acaso o tempo virar em alguma viagem minha muito longa vou poder dormir numa pousada ou na praia. (locais seguros longe de assaltos) Eu pretendo dormir ancorado pois seria como um veleiro. Me sinto mais seguro do que dormir na praia. Então, depois de um tempo de video cozinhando é possível ver a volta completa da ilha. #159 ✍️ Port Antonio, pas un touriste ! Nous sommes au cœur de la cité, au marché. Le poumon de la ville ! J’adore les marchés ! On y apprend tellement sur les habitants, on se sent immédiatement en immersion dans le pays. Cultures, traditions, pittoresque, tout y est ! Du patois chantant aux odeurs exotiques. Les fruits et légumes regorgent à même le sol et les couleurs locales nous mettent dans l’ambiance du rastafari. Les dreadlocks contribuent au symbole idéologique, mais ce qui fait partie sans aucun doute de la culture Jamaïcaine c’est bien la musique et la ganja ! Au rythme du reggae, les scènes de vie s’accordent parfaitement à la nonchalance ambiante. Le « One Love » s’imprègne de nous aussi naturellement que la douceur de l’eau de coco dans nos gosiers. Sans rien organiser, nous nous laissons guider par la vibe. Un échange, un regard, quelques mots et nous voilà embarqués avec notre marché, dans un taxi. Nous avons croisé Captaine Reeboo. Tout le monde le connait par ici. Il doit avoir plusieurs activités, entre autres, celle de faire découvrir la bambou river. Yeah man ! Dans la paroisse du Portland, au pied des Blues Montains, s’écoule depuis des siècles, l’un des plus grands fleuves de Jamaïque, le Rio Grande. Fût un temps, s’encourageant en chantant Day-O, on acheminait les régimes de bananes des plantations côtières par radeau, jusqu’à l’embarcadère de Port Antonio. De nos jours ce sont les visiteurs qui se laissent transporter sur ces embarcations, faites uniquement en bambou ! Notre capitaine maitrise ! Assis sur notre trône en graminée, nous nous laissons mener. La perche en bambou appuyée de la force des bras de Reeboo suffit à nous faire avancer. Les vertes rives défilent dans le calme. Juste le chuintement de l’eau, le chant des oiseaux et par moments, la stridulation envahissante de ceux qui semblent être des criquets. Nous avons tant à apprendre ! Une vie ne sera pas suffisante. Prenez, par exemple cet arbre, le Donkey Peepee tree, comme il est appelé ici, ou tulipier d’Afrique, la sève que contient sa fleur orange serait un remède pour soigner la conjonctivite. Et cette graine, la Horse Eyes, œil de cheval, de bœuf ou de tonnerre, selon les régions du monde, a la caractéristique d’absorber la chaleur et de devenir brulante quand on la frotte, pouvant servir à cautériser les petites plaies. Chaque expédition est un moyen de nous cultiver. C’est ainsi que nous apprenons que c’est Errol Flynn, l’acteur mythique de l’âge d’or d’Hollywood, qui est le précurseur de ces incursions en rafting, au cœur de la jungle Jamaïcaine et que c’est en ce même lieu que Johnny Depp aurait embrassé sa dernière épouse. Mais il ne faut pas se faire leurrer par le vert émeraude de l’eau, le romantique site n’en est pas moins, une base d’entrainements militaires où les conditions peuvent être difficiles. Ici les troupes apprennent à vivre en pleine nature, à construire des abris, à collecter de l’eau, à piéger et à se nourrir de ce que chacun trouve. Pour nous, nous sustenter ne va pas être compliqué, Belinda a tout préparé ! Les gouttes rebondissent à la surface de l’eau, il parait qu’il devrait pleuvoir plus que ça en cette saison, mais le climat change, tout le monde est unanime sur ce point ! Cela nous rend encore plus sensible à ce qui nous entourent. Mon Amour filme, j’observe ! Cette nature est tellement belle et ces oiseaux si libres. Libres, comme cette vie que nous avons choisie. Amarrés à la marina, notre liberté en serait presque entravée, surtout à 38 dollars la journée. À 10 dollars près, le mouillage n’est pas plus abordable, mais au moins, dans la baie, nous nous sentons délivrés ! Un village de pêcheurs, un ilot, une épave, nous avons troqué le bleu des Bahamas contre le vert de Jamaïque et la luxuriance de ses arbres. Tout pousse ! Pas étonnant que le cannabis soit si populaire ! Pas besoin d’avoir la main verte pour avoir la peace and love attitude ! Rien qu’avec les effluves, on se sent zen ! D’ailleurs, toute la population semble l’être. Et que dire de ce DJ rasta improbable avec sa table de mixage d’un autre temps et ses 45 tours ? Cette ambiance si unique a attiré quelques richissimes. Au début des années 1900, un homme d’affaire de Salem, Alfred Mitchell avec sa femme Annie Tiffany, héritière d’une grande fortune, tombent amoureux de la ville. Ils achètent alors des terres à Folly Point et font construire un manoir, réplique d’une villa romaine de 60 chambres, tout en marbre. Aujourd’hui, la propriété est en ruines, mais les restes reflètent encore la grandeur originelle. Toutefois, cette démesure humaine ne peut égaler la sublimité de ce saisissant ficus. Nous l’avons découvert par hasard, en cherchant le chemin qui mène au vieux phare de port Antonio. Il est là, depuis plus de quatre siècle, remarquable, beau, éminentissime. C’est un de ces arbres que l’on imagine dans les contes d’enfants, où chamans, mages et dames de savoir viennent puiser la force. Ses racines...

:Oh, the joys of old boats. In this episode, we are in the midst of last minute preparations for an Atlantic crossing including replacing the bolts on our chainplates. We had noticed slight movement in the chainplate on the port side since Shayne had put a bead of sika flex around the deck join. Of course in the process of looking more closely at what is going on we find out more than we want to! Apologies for my crap audio.
